On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

It seems that the anemic radars of the early Fulcrums and Flankers really hamper both plane's abilities to effectively fight in BVR.
Especially the MiG-29. The Su-27 radar was somewhat more powerful since it had more power available.
Flanker radar is mostly fine. Fulcrum on the other hand with less situational awareness and poor radar can be rough
Mind the FC3 radars are way more useful and powerful than the real world radars of those planes. Frankly, I doubt even modernized soviet or russian radars are any good.

Unless they solved the problem, one of the disadvantages of the MiG-29 is the engines. At certain power settings and altitudes, they are notorious for producing black smoke trails that are easy to spot if you are looking.
Only matters in close range combat. This fight was fought 95% beyond visual range

Interestingly enough, I've read that PZL, once considered getting a building license for MiG-29 and make a domestic MiG-29 but with NATO gear and upgraded avionics. Basically, PZL would have done the same thing than the poles did with the Beryl and the PT-91 Twardy. They would have called that polish domestic MiG-29 the PZL-M2000

The R-37M can kill fighters too, some of the 70+ MiG-29, Su-27, Su-24 and Su-25s downed were killed by it

Mach 4.5 is the max speed at high altitude, probably nearly Mach 2 at low alt based on how fast that thing was ripping
It can mach 5 under perfect circumstances
ET is hypersonic but not as fast still as the r37

MiG-29 is a tactical fighter. Sometimes called "frontline fighter". Yes, it has some interceptor capabilities like fast climbing, and air superiority capabilities like maneuvering. But it is a "small" fighter.

that is insane that the RWR is basically a lightbrite you have to read while doing BFM
Once you learn how to use it it's much more informative than the NATO radars. However, in high G maneuvers I'd much prefer a NATO radar for legibility, but in BVR I'd love the Russian one, it provides amazing notch and missile avoidance related information

Kinda surprised Toxic didn't fire a Fox-3 to give you the tone and immediately fire the long range Fox-2. I imagine giving you the tone might have lulled you a bit to the real threat. Worked anyway, though. Great fight!

It’s interesting that Poland is one of the few NATO countries that uses the MiG-29. Granted Poland’s MiGs were previously operated by the Germans. 🇵🇱🇩🇪

Yeah... Those newer Russian Fox-2 are better flare resistant, specially when they're going against rear aspect; defending cold might have not been the best course of action when suspecting an ET lunch...

I want to see the F-15EX in a fox 2 fight with an F-22. The EX reportedly has fantastic maneuvering similar to the raptor thanks to the fly by wire controls. Hopefully that's been mirrored in DCS.

For something that carries 20 missiles, I would've never expected that. When I first heard about the F-15EX, I thought it would be like a Strike Eagle; very fast, great avionics, and armed to the teeth, but maneuvering like a brick.

i have a question, even if the Amraam its a fire and forget missile, it need datalink mid course update to launch on max range, the firing plane did not to have to point its radar to the target to track it so that it could send the tracking data to the missile? how long that takes? i am not a dcs player but it seems to me that you not using the mid course update of the traget.
