You can just use ur main dmg dealing stand/spec then switch to standless It took me 12 hours bc we couldnt get chain i accidently got heavenly then the next boss dropped chain and my friend picked it up but i still got it :p
I think you could have gotten Toji when you died from the void if you didn't hold one of the items, I think you just need to die and not be in combat while the items are in the hotbar so
