    Love this! And I love the idea of letting your character do what comes natural in a not so natural environment to increase their comic elements. Very clever.

      Thanks so much, Marybeth! It really is my very favorite character design tool.

    I love the idea of a modern woman trapped in the past. Tons of interesting situations and comic potential there. And conflict!

    In my Vampire game, the players will be the sleuths. I will have them create their own backgrounds, skills and abilities. Of course, we will have long discussions ahead of time, as the players will want to give their sleuths spectacular abilities with no justification at all.

    Why isn't there a YA male protagonist book in the cozy mystery genre ? I am looking for a book that has a male protagonist around his 16 to 27 , please suggest some

    Im going with the eye for detail with my main character Riley. It comes form him working as a barista and in a bookstore during college.

      @@janekalmes Thanks..It sounds like your current cozy involves time travel..a 2lst Century woman stuck in the early 19th century. Thats different, but I think it will work.

    What’s the difference between writing a cozy sleuth vs a regular sleuth?

    • @janekalmes
      @janekalmes  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmm... not a lot, most of the time. Cozy sleuths are more likely than non-cozy sleuths to be amateur investigators, rather than professional law enforcement. And perhaps they're more likely to get themselves into humorous situations.
      But in a lot of cases, the distinction between a mystery that's cozy and one that isn't is less about the character, and more about the tone of the overall book. Typically, you're trying to avoid too much blood, suspense, or distress, so your reader can stay nice and cozy.

      @@janekalmes Thank you for the explanation! What mystery subgenre would Sherlock Holmes fall under? I'm sorry if that's a dumb question, your videos are my first introduction to a "cozy."
