I legally own a Lanchester Mk. 1*. Yes, mine does work. It is not deactivated. It is a very well made firearm. Most were made by Sterling, a small number made by Greener, and a few were made by Boss. Mine is one of the scarce Greener manufactured Lanchesters. What is it like to actually fire it? If you saw the smile on people's faces, you would understand.
Thanks for the Feedback - I must take the Time to Visit the Battery now that its Completed after all its my Home town & we use to play in the Gun pits as Kids , as did my Parents when they were children. Seems Strange that its Took so long to consider Restoring The 'GunBattery'. Should of been done a long time ago. Big Thanks to Everyone involved in the Project* Its a great Shame that todays Society suffers from an Ignorance running Deep. But we Must Never Forget our Roots, Young & Old.
I have a question; is it possible to get rid of that bolted down sight at the front? I want to take it off as well as replace the brass magazine well with a machined steel version that says 'MP-28 System Schmeisser Patent'. Overall the Lanchester looks nice but I much prefer the German counterpart and once it is transformed it will go well with my pre-war German uniform.
god annoys me it was Hartlepools bot Hartlepool and West Hartlepool no just Hartlepool they did no amalgamate till the late 60's. haha she can't se heugh and why are they showing my group anyone can tell we wear WWII uniform not WWI uniform. The Lanchester and Sten gun where developed sepretly for diffrent reasons the Sten was not just a cheaper Lanchaster
great short doc! I really must visit the battery again as the last time was about 6 years ago.
The Navy were the main users of that weapon throughout WWII and they liked it, useful for deck clearing and boarding parties.
I played on the battery as well. Spent my childhood in that area(born Lumley Square) schools were Prissick & Henry Smith's.
