    I had a very good italian friend who hated that word - mafia. When he was alive i thought he was being sensitive and old fashioned especially considering him being relatively young. Gen. X. I hope he rests in peace. He was a very good man. R.I.P. Mike. I miss having a genuine friend. I aint fit to carry his shoes morally and ethically. I got to try harder. He was a blessing.

    Our history is often cruel and imperfect, just like all of us. There are a lot of lessons to be learned and our society should learn from our history, not bury or deny it. Let's not judge people in history based on societies norms today and don't throw stones in glass houses.

    I had heard from years ago a NYPD connection to the attack on Joe Colombo, but few ever really expounded on that. Knowing J.Edgar and the capabilities of the FBI and especially the times during that particular period, Chris Colombo's explanation has the very powerful "ring of truth". I'm extremely aware of Civil Rights history and all that surrounded it, with Colombo making the connections that he was and working with the groups that he was, he had made a most powerful enemy in the FBI. The rabbit hole goes far deeper.. Jeff, you're doing a fantastic job with this channel..Salute!

    • @frankjames180
      @frankjames180 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it does go very deep. To be honest studying the crime families among many other things I was trying to solve the Colombo hit myself to where I reached a point of a dead end finally crossing off crazy Joe Gallo to where I went back to make sure and I positive he didn't do it. In fact, he was known to brag about hits he did, and I had two different made guy's statements that Joe told them he had nothing to do with it. That is when I had to go to a different angle looking for motive who benefited from it and this was when the FBI came a suspect. When I started looking for who made any type of threats or statements that can be viewed as a threat, they popped up again. Finally, when you actually think about who had the capability you get where I am going with this. They are the only ones by a long shot that checked off all the boxes. It was when I first heard Chris Colombo being interviewed by Michael Franzese a little bit before this interview that I heard him make this claim it was the first time I heard anyone else have this theory that I then felt I wasn't crazy. When you look back at anyone with a platform or a powerful person able to sway the minds of how people think if they had something to do with the Civil Right Movement in a positive way, they ended up 12 feet under. You can just check them off one after the other basically. Let's see JFK, RFK, MLK, Malcom X, Abraham Lincoln, 2 Pac, San Cooke, and Fred Hampton that is barely a warm up.

    Another great interview Jeff. I respect Chris and the entire Colombo family but I can’t help feeling as though he’s a bit delusional about his father. If the league was organized to help Italian Americans, then where did all of the money “donated” go? I’ve heard directly from my grandparents and parents that overall the league was just another racket built off of true concerns of discriminatation by average hard working Italians at that time. He saw an avenue and took advantage of it. The majority of Italians knew this and if they were not forced to donate would otherwise not have.

      there was a ton of FBI investigation into the League funds following the shooting. They did everything they could to get an indictment but could not. And we all know hoe easy it is for the FEDS to get an inducement. The truth was there were plenty of things the money was going to - from Camp Unity in upstate NY to drug rehab facilities in the tribal state area - not to mention the weekly meetings at the Park Sheraton Hotel in NYC where people went in front of the Dais to ask the league for financial help with things that were left behind by other agencies. I wrote Joe Colombo's life story and the research and evidence I found on the League was enough to write an entire book alone.

      You make a good point, but the man was shot & was in a comma, so the league dissolved. What I mean is it is hard to complain about the where the money ended up because the sole person in control of it was unable to say where it is or how much there was etc. Wives back in those days didn't have a clue about any of the workings of their husband's business affairs. Not to be argumentative I am just saying. Though as far as people being forced to donate really? Come on now I don't buy that.

    If anyone's wondering what Mr Colombo means when the word Mafia is an acronym for "get the French out" this is what he means:
    Although there is an alternative theory (Mafia is derived from the Arabic mu'afah, meaning 'refuge or protection'), it is widely thought that Mafia is the acronym of Morte Ai Francesi Italiani Allarme, (Death to all the Waiting Frenchmen threatened by the Italians) the battle cry of the Sicilian Vespers

    @The Sitdown with Jeff Nadu for whatever it is worth I thought I would tell you that I look into old cases trying to solve them. I studied criminal justice for 3 years earning a partial academic scholarship to Southwest Texas State University for Criminology. Anyways, to the point I looked into the Colombo shooting because I kept noticing in documentaries that the person behind it was somewhat a mystery and the fact that I became pretty knowledgeable about the crime families long ago due to the JFK assassination. To make a long story short I eventually came to a dead end when I cleared Joe Gallo whom most seemed to recognize him to be responsible. When I checked back to see what the police detectives working the case felt about Joe Gallo, they also had cleared him (Police detectives working homicide not the FBI obviously). So, I went back to square one to approach it in a non-conventional way. I made a check list basically first looking for motive and then who benefitted from the demise of Joe Colombo. Narrowing down the list of possible suspects. I was only able to do it this way because I was now familiar with the case. When I started thinking who was actually able to pull something like this off meaning having a press pass and find a shooter etc. that made it much easier to eliminate people. To many people get caught up on the fact Joe Gallo befriended Nicky Barnes while in the joint, and besides Nicky Barnes later in life was clear about what Joe Gallo was schooling him on and what his beef was with the old timer. Never was there any mention of an issue with Joe Colombo it was Joe Profaci. In the end the FBI was the only one that had the all the check marks by a long shot. It wasn't until later that I heard Chris mention this on an interview with Michael Franzese that I heard him say this making my jaw hit the floor. That was the first time I thought just maybe what I came up with wasn't so crazy. Besides they were one of only a few people he had some type of beef with at that time. I mean if the shoe fits, then I don't know what else to say.
    I am not sure how things worked out with your father's health and situation, but I do hope that he is alright doing better now. Hearing you guy's talk about that I know that it is not easy when those close to use are not in the best of shape. I just dealt with a similar situation yesterday myself because my grandmother lives with me. Btw this was a really good interview. Take care!
