  • Earl Creech from Utah State University gives a tour of an organic dryland wheat farm in Utah, and discusses how one appliaction of compost 25 years ago is still doubling yields today. He also discusses different rates of compost and the effects of cover crops on a dyland wheat fallow system.

    It would be interesting to see a small section where 33 tons of manure/acre was applied.

    14:41 To be clear - was the cover crop tilled into the soil, or was it removed and then the soil tilled?
    I'd be curious to see if the wheat was planted into the cover crop without the significant disturbance to the soil.

    I don't think that tilled cover crop is going to break down and be able to use by the wheat just during the summer months! The cover crop is supposed to grow late summer into the fall then turned into the soil for the winter and maybe a little sprouts back up before winter.
