Hi! Thanks for hanging out today for a chill, chatty video. I really love talking about books and hearing your thoughts. Reading is so subjective, and it's so cool to see what people like and don't like. Let me know what you voted for down below!
The Book of Doors is prob my fave book of the year. It was spectacular. It was this combo of cozy, romance, fantasy, thriller. I LOVED it. I didn't realize it was his debut novel. 💯 5 stars
Im only 2 mins in to this, but i had to stop and say, I listened to All Fours on audiobook. I went into it blind and it was a freakin RIDE. like, whew! 😂😂 I don't know if I "recommend" it, but if you are interested the market for something totally unexpected , go for that one.
I’m a fantasy and historical fiction girlie and I’m always surprised when other fantasy readers don’t like historical fiction because I feel like there’s some overlap between the genres. Especially if you are reading books pre-1900s because the world back then was so different in terms of technology and culturally that I feel like I’m stepping into another world. I’d recommend giving Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See a try. Also, please give Kennedy Ryan a chance. I’m totally opposite from you that I love the covers❤. I think she may intentionally use real people on the covers because there’s controversy around using illustrated or cartoon covers on romance books (especially spicy books) because it could be misleading to younger readers and she’s a mother. But that’s my opinion. Regardless, I highly recommend her books.
I totally understand what you mean regarding historical fiction. Unfortunately, I don’t like reading about heavy topics that feel “real”. I think I just get anxious. It’s probably why I prefer books about mythical creatures and romances with unrealistic plots. I can appreciate historical fiction and have given the books I’ve read in the genre pretty good ratings. I just don’t enjoy feeling anxious or sad and that’s usually how those books make me feel. It’s a deeply personal thing I guess. Regarding Kennedy Ryan, I probably will read her books eventually. I will borrow them from the library. You’re probably right about the covers. I’ve seen TikToks of librarians catching middle schoolers reading highly inappropriate cartoon cover books, and it’s horrifying. Thanks so much for the recommendations. I love to hear about what other people enjoy reading 🩷
@@RubyTrev Yeah, I understand that some historical fiction can be hard and sad to read. I think about it as learning about what our ancestors had to endure and it helps me better appreciate my privileges.
This time around, I hadn't read a single one of the picks. o.o But I am almost finished with Quicksilver and I love it, so I voted for it! I also really enjoyed Butcher & Blackbird and am partway through Leather & Lark (though audio is a must, I think, or maybe those wouldn't have been so enjoyable) so I voted for that as well. But those are the only two I've touched among all the lists. I've read a lot this year, but not what's popular, apparently! 😂
I think a lot of people can relate to you. I was surprised I read quite a few books on there. I thought I would not have for sure. I’m happy to hear you liked Quicksilver. It was fun. I didn’t listen to the audio of Butcher and Blackbird even though I know everyone raved about it. I just don’t think it would be enough to change my mind.

I trust you, so I just put it on hold on Libby. The synopsis does sound intriguing. 🧐
