    Max, Yulia I rarely comment on TH-cam but I want to say that my heart is with you and all the people that are suffering this situation. I really love russian culture, language, cities...     I'm from Serbia and I know what are you going through, as well as Ukrainians. We had sanctions in Serbia and we in Bosnia (I'm Bosnian Serb who refugeed to Serbia during the Bosnian war ) had war. So everything I can say is you will survive, and keep your common sense. Keep your own truth in your hearts. You shell overcome. And keep your pride as well. You didn't want this war and you are still great nation. And you will be even better. Слава России! Слава Украине!     Для меня было облегчением узнать что вы оба в порядке, было действительно грустно видеть как мой учебный процесс затуманен этой бессмысленной политической игрой. тем более что у меня есть друг из питере и у него проблемы с интернетом а не могу общаться с ним ;__; у него тоже есть друзья в украине, довольно неудачное время для контакта с русской культурой.
    нормальные человек стремятся только к спокойной жизни со своими друзьями и со своей культурой, со своими повседневными проблемами, к сожалению над нами хотят играть в войну.
    Спасибо Макс, за дал мне знать что ты в порядке) буду продолжать учить русский язык, это моя зона комфорта 👋

    Dear Max and Yulia, I've been following your channel for a couple of years already. Your videos have been very helpful to me to learn russian even though I prefer writing this message in english because I don't have the enough amount of fluency in russian to express myself correctly. 😅 I'm so glad that you are safe and well and even though here in Italy (but I guess it's the same in many other countries outside Russia) many people are against Russia, you are the living proof that any generalization is absolutely wrong. Being against the decisions of a government doesn't mean being against (or hate) its entire population. I send you a very big hug hoping that all this madness may come to an end quickly and that the situation can return to normal as soon as possibile. Stay safe my friends! 🙏

    I am going to write in English as I am short of time.. I understood Yulia's thoughts very well - I also thought about this from the very beginning of the war, when (quite understandably) there was a very emotional reaction among the people in the west and in Poland for example (I live in the UK, but I am Polish), including some of my Polish friends - a reaction saying that 'all Russians are to blame, that there has always been something wrong with them, that all of them have imperial inclinations etc, and all that bullshit. This clearly shows a lot of people, most of them, think Russia is a homogenic territory, they do not understand how diverse it is in terms of its peoples, opinions, age groups, political inclinations etc, they do not understand its complexity, history, including the modern one, the challenges people who are against the government face etc. Most of these people have never been to Russia, never tried to understand it and its people better, and base their opinions on their feelings, what their family members told them about the 2nd world war (for example in Poland) etc. But they fail to see that there are millions of people, who are against the propaganda in Russia, against the government but their hands are tight and options to change something are very limited due to obvious reasons (being arrested, losing your job, being called a traitor, or even being killed). I totally agree it is easy to complain by someone sitting in their home in the west, being safe and having right to protest, that the Russians do not go to the streets and protests as they should to topple Putin's regime, and their opinion would be much different if they spent some time in Russia trying to understand the reality there. It has not been happening overnight, I agree, and maybe there was a moment the Russian people could have stopped Putin earlier, but personally I doubt it - the propaganda has been in operation for years, and despite heroic attempts (for example Navalny, or many other journalists in the past, like the journalists of Novaya Gazeta etc), the government has always been able to find a way to simply squash these attempts, to nip them in the bud). Maybe the geography of Russia is a problem? Maybe it is too big to get people together to protest against the government? Maybe it is to simply impossible to motivate so many different peoples with different ideas, ethnicities, a few thousands kms from Moscow to actually do something and go out and protest? I agree most of the people in Russia from the Russian glubinka live very poor, simple lives, with no skills to reason, to triangulate and check the information they get, they are very gaullible and believe what the federal media tell them. But there are definitely millions of Russians across the whole country who do not agree with what is happening, have never been agreeing, maybe half of the population, or maybe +-30%, it is difficult to know how many, but still it is millions of people, like you guys, who need our support, as what you do is heroic. I always try to educate my friends and family that we should not reduce the whole country with its whole population to what Kremlin is doing. And even if majority of Russians are now brainwashed, it needs to be recognized that other millions are in a very difficult situation as everyone is against them in their own country and on top of that people abroad are forgetting about them, too. Stay strong!

I can undestand when they come from people who are being bombed, their emotions of fear and rage are taking over and I don't think I would be doing any better in their situation, but other nations? No, it's not ok.

      The little about the history of the conflict , it is better since 1991 , but it will be enough from 2014 . When the Nazis , with the total support of the United States , committed a bloody coup and overthrew the legitimate President Yanukovych ., they immediately banned the Russian language .Donbass (a region close to Russia and populated by a Russian-speaking population) spoke out against , they voted for independence. Ukraine unleashed a bloody war in the Donbas, where 13 thousand civilians were killed. Type in the search for the Madonna of Donbass !
      Zelenskiy defeated Poroshenko in the 2018 elections with 75% support from Ukrainians, promising to restore peace in the Donbas by any means and restore good relations with Russia, his main economic partner. At the time of the election, more than 50% of Ukrainians were in favor of restoring good relations with Russia. In many cities of Ukraine, Ukrainians supported the Russian team on football at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. And now, after 3 months, the policy of Zelensky, who has been on visits to many Western countries, is changing dramatically. And everyone's favorite humorist Zelensky gradually turns into Porosheko over the course of the year. Why ? Because both Poroshenko and Zelensky are most worried about their offshore accounts and are afraid of nationalists. Zelensky officially bans the Russian language throughout Ukraine, and control and penal services have been created that allow fines, including ordinary sellers and doctors who speak Russian. With the consent of the ambassadors of Western countries, he closed 3 TV channels that traditionally promote peace and restore relations with Russia. And now Zelensky has brought disaster to the whole of Ukraine. For 8 years now, Russia has been demanding the implementation of the Minsk agreements, which provided for the return of Donbass to Ukarina on the terms of amending the constitution with the federal status of Donbass and the possibility of electing a government, police and preserving the original Russian language. schools and the opportunity to communicate in Russian everywhere. Biden, Boris, and the Western media raised the cry for a Russian invasion precisely on the basis of what had been scripted ahead of time for Zelensky. Zelensky had to initiate an escalation of the conflict, at first he avoided it, then he was forced and the Ukrainian army began intensive shelling of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics. Residents of Donbass found themselves again in 2014, when there were numerous casualties among the civilian population. It was the Ukrainian army, stuffed with Western weapons and instigated by the West, that unleashed the conflict. Of course, Russia was forced to react. And Russia responded. From the very beginning, the United States and Great Britain aspired to this scenario in order to accuse Russia of aggression and the imposition of sanctions.       No one will put you in jail for speaking out against a military operation. You can be prosecuted for libel and denigration of the army. The West was shamefully silent about 8 years of shelling, tyranny and murders in the Donbass. In 2014, Ukraine lost but signed the Minsk Agreements registered with the UN. It is also very important to understand that Germany and France are the guarantors of the implementation of the Minsk agreements on the part of Ukarin, Russia acted as a guarantor on the part of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics. And of course the West completely ignored the neo-Nazi movement and groups, just because they were aimed against Russian and pro-Russian people, politicians. And in the end, Russia was left with no choice but to intervene. During these 8 years, there was not a single Western correspondent for a major publication in the Donbass. No one in the West knows the horrific events of May 2, 2104, when protesters were burned alive in Odessa, the massacre of the entire police department in Mariupol and many other crimes of the Ukrainian regime. 13 thousand victims of the Ukrainian regime, including 256 children, is a huge number for a region of about 3 million people. How if you scale to the USA it is 1 million 300 thousand victims and 25 thousand children. You must realize this. Europe and the USA could easily prevent the conflict, the authorities of Ukarina are the pet dog of the USA. But the United States has always encouraged the conflict situation in Ukraine, and the United States also refused to the demands of Russia to provide a guarantee that Ukarina would not join NATO. Therefore, in Russia
      the vast majority is on the side of the people of Donbass.

I'm in Sochi and I have a good life here but now I'm worried that the economy might get much worse in the coming months and I'm obviously not happy with the political situation either. Might have to end up going back to England and that'd really be a shame. I hope some diplomacy can somehow save us but I doubt it ...

    Of course regular Russians are not at fault for this war. So many people don't understand that this war is ultimately between the ruling classes of these countries, not ordinary citizens, even though it's ordinary citizens who get sent to do the fighting. Capitalism always has to expand profits - ultimately this means that capitalists (the big business owners) in any given country eventually must look outside their own country for more markets to enter, resources to extract, cheaper labor to exploit. With the ways the global economy has shifted in the past several years, NATO countries have increasing interest in controlling Eastern Europe, as do Russia and China, their main competitors. This is why international war happens under global capitalism -- the competition between the ruling classes of different countries eventually comes to blows as they seek to control other parts of the world. There is only so much pie and the capitalist classes of different countries are fighting to get bigger slices of it.
    It's so frustrating to see, at least here in the US, so many Americans, even the "progressives," falling for the blatant Russophobia that's being pushed, using "Russians" as if it's a synonym for "evil people" and acting like cheerleaders for the US, NATO, Ukrainian ruling class etc like any of them have the interests of regular people in Ukraine (or anywhere) at heart. Yes, _Ukraine's right to self determination is very important_, but NATO isn't really defending that, they're defending their own influence over Ukraine. And this conflict gives NATO an excuse to sabotage Russia's economy at the expense of ordinary people's lives, which once again is not because they care about the people of Ukraine, but because they want to destroy Russia as an international competitor in global capitalism. Regular people all over the world have to stop picking a "side" in these imperialist wars like we're picking a sports team and understand that none of these sides are fighting for _us_. We as working people have to organize together on an international scale to stop imperialist wars like these. Until we do they will keep popping up all over the world. It is the inevitable result of a global economy based on competition and exploitation.

    I would like to add a point to the discussion on whether learning the Russian language makes sense in the current circumstances. This time I will not talk about motivation or anything like that. I am from Poland and here most people are doing what they can in order to help the Ukranian refugees. And ironically, people who speak Russian can help more. Those who speak both Polish and Russian can easily communicate with the Ukranians. At the beginning I was afraid the Ukranians would avoid using the language of the agressor but on the contrary being able to communicate seems to be the most important thing at the moment. Actually, I know many people who have started to work on their Russian daily in order to be of more help to those who need it.

      I think it's a myth that Ukrainians ever tried to suppress the Russian language, I am a foreigner living in Kiev for 6 years and I only ever spoke Russian, In the whole time one person complained but that was when i first arrived and i wasn't that long after Crimea. I am here during this war and some people have switched to Ukrainian but most still speak Russian as before.

      @@Phoenix-ov5gg It is worth considering that Kiev was once the capital of Kievan Rus" long before anyone heard of Moscow. So it is even hard to argue that Russian should be considered as a foreign language in these parts.

    Your explanation of why Russia has always encompassed polarised views was so helpful. Anyone familiar with Russian literature of the 19th century would recognise many of the points you made.

    In Britain people were brainwashed into hating the Polish Romanians and Bulgarians and thus voted for Brexit now the same people are brainwashed into hating the Russians and unconditionally loving the Ukrainians. But the reality is different and there are good and bad people on either side. Racism on the other hand just creates a distorted image of fear towards an 'other'. Yes we should help Ukrainian refugees but what about Russian politic refugees???? People just like switching their brain off and listen to mainstream media.

    Интересный стрим, спасибо большое. Я молодой человек из России, давно слушаю вас (иногда), приятно видеть по-настоящему патриотичных (в хорошем смысле) умных людей. Лично у меня всегда были проблемы с поиском и анализом различной политической информации
    Лет в 13-14 был за нынешнюю власть, потом стал пересматривать взгляды, какое-то время (до осени 2020) был оппозиционером
    А потом начал рассуждать на тему того, что я не проверяю никаким образом инфу, которую воспринимаю
    Я разочаровался в самом действии - интересоваться политикой и сейчас я довольно аполитичен
    О многих последних новостях узнавал от близких, сам легко умею изолироваться от СМИ и нынешней шумихи (наверное, поэтому сохранил большую часть нервов, не поддавшись сильной панике)
    Очень понравилась теория о разделении людей на 2 группы
    Я чувствую, что скорее склонен к "коллективистам", но здесь важна та самая общая идея
    А нынешняя идея войны это тотальный 3,14здеts
    Надеюсь, у меня в будущем будет больше времени и желания учиться сверять различные источники информации, дабы уметь распознавать достойные источники информации
    Но сейчас мне не до этого, да и желанием не блещу
    Найти бы время на более простые хобби

    Привет из Ижевска) я венгр, прилетел 22 февраля а сейчас не могу вернуться домой. В Ижевске все в порядке, люди спокойные, в заведениях насколько я помню речь вообще не идёт о спецоперации. И Макс, касательно финансовой поддержки, скачай битпей и могу тебя регулярно поддерживать с помощью криптовалют, я уверен что многие из твоих подписчиков тоже могут себе это позволить, которые до сих пор обычным путём поддерживали. Я тебе очень благодарен, я с твоей помощью выучил русский и по сей день смотрю твои видосы. Всего доброго, хорошей работы!

    Guys: You reminded me of those early "wild-west" days of the internet. In the late 90s or early 2000s I paid a small subscription fee and downloaded about 1000 movies. I gathered a Russian catalog w many soviet era films and discovered a lot of great Russian talents. (pity the resolution is quite poor!)

    Thank you for speaking so openly about the current situation. You say you can understand why people are turning against 'the Russians'. I think that every educated and intelligent person should be able to distinguish between the ambitions of a political leader and the rest of the population. There is no reason at all to feel aggression towards Russia in general. All the best to you from Germany.

    Хотя мне не нужно изучать русский, но всё равно приятно было посмотреть на адекватных и симпатичных людей с неискаженной логикой и ценностями(что в наше время очень важно). Сегодня разговаривал со своим другом, живущим в Германии и подумал, что там война чувствуется больше, даже если ты совсем не смотришь ТВ или Интернет. Потому что, выходя на улицу, видишь украинские флаги, периодически проводятся митинги в поддержку Украины, созданы центры приема украинских беженцев, а в центре города на большом экране передают новости, не искаженные пропагандой. У нас же делают вид как будто ничего не происходит, а просто какая-то "спецоперация" с невнятными целями.

    Max and Julia - Please keep the lines of communication open. I don't blame average Russians for this mess and I think that holds true for the vast majority of people in this country (USA). You guys are great ambassadors for average Russian people - most of whom are appalled at what is happening in Ukraine. Keep your heads down - I would not want to log in one day and be greeted with a shut down YT channel. Let's just get through the next few months. Ok? Cheers and keep up the good work.

    Also sorry for mire messages but I recently deleted Fb and Instagram and from someone who has a Cyber Security back ground let me tell you these social media platforms have been used like a weapon against humanity. In fact they even had psychological tests to see if they could cause us to be depressed and addicted in the past which I think is truly evil.

Я изучала русский язык и историю с 15-и лет (мне сейчас 30 с чем-то), и прям с детства любуюсь русской культурой. Последние 10 лет, видно что место для свобоного мышления и самовыражения в России постепенно уменшалось, а теперь совсем исчезает, надеюсь не навсегда.

Кто вас будет спасать? :( знаете, митинги во Франции тоже иногда были жестокими, полиция была жестокой, смотрите жёлтые жилеты. Ситуация очень серьёзна. Вы не виноваты, но всё равно у вас есть историческая ответственность. Я мирный человек как вас. Найди́те ваш путь. Успеха вам.

    An excellent video...balanced, intelligent and senisble. It is tough- my former Russia teacher had to flee Irpin...2 of her neighbours kids were killed...my other teacher is trapped in Kyiv....both taught me Russian-the language of the guy firing the shells.....It is easy for us sitting in comfortable democracies to judge...but a friend driving from Finland toSt. Peter during the week was stopped and teh Russian guard asked to look at his phone...checking social media for negative comments about the invasion or 'special operation'....luckily he didn't find any. As with the girl in Nizhny with the piece of paper....My fear is this...Unless the regime is removed then Russia will slip more and more to North Korea...ever more paranoid and more brutal with its own people. That's just the way it is and the choices available. Above all you guys take care and stay safe in this world of Franz Kafka and shadow.

    I hope that Russian aggression ends soon and both sides can go back into recovering. In any case please don't forget that even though Russia has committed crimes, many people around the world are non the less interested in learning Russian. I don't think that has changed much.
    So please continue making high quality content and keep up with what you're doing!
