The NBA is international yes, but it isn’t an international sport, that’s quite literally a fact. People are only arguing against it for the sake of integrity and pride.
He is by definition factually correct.
There’s an alarming difference from winning a domestic competition than winning an international competition aswell. In one you’re competing against the best players in your domestic range thus the bar of competition being arguably lower considering the sport, the other you’re seeing the best of the best in the intire world, imagine if Mike Phelps accomplishments were just domestic.
An analogy would be if someone set an American world record and claimed it to be the world record.

The English Premier league and the England football team aren’t the same. True the national team hasn’t won anything since 1966 but that’s because football is played competitively around the world. And you play for whatever country you are born in. Basketball isn’t played competitively around the world so of course US would dominate at the Olympics. And the NBA isn’t equivalent, Premier league wasn’t always on top, La Liga was in the early 00’ and Serie A was in the 90’s, US basketball has always been on top. Quick side note basketball was created in the UK….. you are welcome 😂
The Euroleague could not only challenge, but probably beat the NBA. It would be a real spectacle to see the champions of nba take on the champios of euroleague each year to battle for supremacy over the 2 continents, however, I repeat: A world championship is represented by a national team, in european football, it is most common that the best players of a national team play club level in different countries, take for example Croatia, who has the 11 best players in last 2 competitions play in western countries.@@timdane6132

The NBA mirrors the Olympics or the World Championships because The best of the best come there to compete. To prove you are the best in basketball you have to play in the NBA. There is no way around it. To prove you’re the fastest you must compete in Olympics or World championships.
Lyles is the fastest man in the world currently. If someone is faster than he is, they would have been at the World Championships proving it not at some random track meet.
Jokic is the best basketball player in the world. Why? The best players in the world play in the NBA. If he’s not, then whoever that player is 100% plays in the NBA.

Olympics and World Championships are contested nation against nation, not US city vs another US city. Basketball already has both an Olympic tournament and an official world championships sanctioned by FIBA the International Basketball Federation. The NBA is neither. The NBA is merely a domestic league that is not open to any other teams that US and 1 canadian team and no national teams at all.
This is not a hard concept. This is how World Champoinships works in every sport on the planet and has done so for over 100 years most of the time. The NBA or any other domestic US league has no right to declare themselves a world championship.

I'm both an NBA and Futbol fan. I've never ever heard Premier League and La Liga champions call themselves "World Champions" yet I would argue those leagues are far more diverse then the NBA.

I love both NBA and futbol as well. using SAS's argument there are more elite international players than english in the prem (which is regarded to most as the best in the world) yet they dont call themselves world champions. NBA is not just American players. It is also made of the best international players. Jokic and Luka are the best international players in the world. Luka dominated Euro league as a teenager. Football/soccer is a good example, UEFA champions league is a competition involving all the best European teams and it is the best football competition in the World similar to how NBA is when it comes to basketball but the champion of champions league is the champion of Europe, to be the champion of the World champion of Europe must beat other continental champions in club world cup. And to clarify these are club competitions, meaning they aren't national team tournaments, so to translate it to the NBA, if the NBA champions were to play against champions from other continents they could be World champions(without playing for the team USA)...

It does not matter if players in the NBA are from everywhere. It does not matter if 90% of NBA teams would win against any other non-NBA team. If you do not have an international competition you cannot call yourself "world champion". The only anthems played before the games are US and Canada anthems. No one is saying the the winner of the NBA finals would not win in a 7-games series against any other team in the world. But until that happens, you cannot be called "world champion".

Just because a team is based in the US doesn't mean they exclude players from the world. There is no cap on foreign born players like other leagues. The NBA has the best talent and that is why they are the world champions. I would go as far and say the team that finishes dead last would win a 5 or 7 game series against any other basketball league champion.

The reason why the best hoopers are playing in the NBA is because they have the largest financial capability. If other leagues has the same financial capacity that the NBA has, then we would see the best hoopers scattered around the world.
