Wow... he has a lot more talent than his popular music portrays. I always dismissed him as just another generic country man... but damn. This is good. Real good.
I wrote this song with Keith back in the day. He was new to Nashville and I mentored him, used him in the studio and wound up writing 9 songs on 'The Ranch'. 'Shelby County Jail' was the first song we wrote together, I showed up at his place after just getting out of there on cannabis and firearms charges!!!!!
Vernon you are the man. That record is by far his best to date. A little over produced at times, but still solid as hell. Ghost, Billy, Last Name, Freedom, etc.etc. Let ask why this never got cut? Is there a studio rough you might share? Why doesn't Urban embrace that Ranch material anymore? Still think it's his best shit yet, but I'm still waiting for him to make the record he was born to make. Just seems he gets farther and farther away with each record.
The Ranch album is one of the best country albums of all time. Keith's best by far. If you supply the cannabis I think we could write some hits together!!
I have only just discovered Keith Urban after the great guitar performance on LIVE EARTH 7-7-07. Alongside John Mayer definately one of the best on the fretboard. Thanks for posting this great video.
Jesus..this guy just doesn't cease to amaze me! Just when i think I saw most of his good stuff on guitar...I come across this...to play this kinda stuff on an electric is one thing...but to cap-off some of these licks on an acoustic...HOLY SMOKES!!! AMAZING isn't the word..PHENOMINAL!!! Keep'er goin Chief!!! hahah!
Thank you for sharing this. It is great to see his early work. His true fans know he is a great guitarist and it bothers us when people who only know of him by his marriage assume he is just a pretty face.
Keith Urban is a master of the acoustic guitar, and an incredible electric guitarist as well. Besides the fact he plays it, sings it and makes it all look so easy. I'd say Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and the Zac Brown Band are definitely the best when it comes to insane live show performances and this kind of overall talent. Brad and Keith also write many of their own songs to boot. I believe Zac Brown Band does too, but regardless most artists do not and or cannot. Amazing video clip!
I went to high school with Jerry, and moved to Nashville after he did. We used to go see The Ranch play all the time (Jack's Guitar Bar!). This looks like it is the WildHorse or somewhere bigger than a club. You should see the other video by the same user that is Jerry, Peter & Keith playin' Devil went down to Nashville. I used to love seein' them play that :)
Unreal. I have this mp3 and always wanted to see how he played it. Does anyone have a video of him playing The Devil Went Down To Georgia? I lived in Nashville and one of my friends said she saw him play this on the acoustic before he got big. I would love to see or hear that!!
Embedding was disab led because certain people were stealing my vids and claiming them as their own plus I've already had to remove some cool vids that drew attention because of abuse of the system, my apologies but I hope you all understand.
can anyone name the venue and date the show??? I'm thinkin 328 Performance sometime in 2000,,,,maybe???\ This tune needs to get cut for the next record.
Why is embedding disabled? I don't mean to be a dick, but I'd love to put this on my MySpace account... Fucking Amazing...Keith Urban just can't stop amazing all of us...

Nothing like the sweet taste of freedom after a night in the county jail, buddy!! Lol...It has inspired many great songs.

John Skinner Oh! when was Jerry born?
@eyeluvku I think this would have been 1999 or 2000. I am also pretty sure he moved to Nashville in 1992. Great video tho, thanks!

Recorded in Nashville 1990’s

What is he playing at 4:48? I think I have an idea but just wondering if anybody else has a say. It is one of my favorite guitar riffs ever! :)
