    In 2004, I turned 50, the same year I coincidentally was promoted to Navy O-6. The wife, said “go for it…..within reason!” (Yeah, I still had two kids at home). I had always wanted a 944s2 Cabriolet. The kids are gone - uh, they have kind of gone, come and gone again, and come back, and left again - but the 944 still resides here at home (though winter stored, here in western Massachusetts). I love it….she’s responsive, well balanced, beautiful to look at, and comfortable….and she never talks back!!! I’ve thrown her up the Kancamangus in the Whites, tamed the Tail of the Dragon, the Good Lord knows how much “interstate” she’s barreled down, and up the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway and down the Outer Banks. She still runs like new….and maybe, just maybe, the wife and I will run her up the coast of Maine, over on the ferry, and do a tour of Nova Scotia. You, my friend, are in Georgia. Hmmmm….incidentally, I spent some time in coastal Georgia as a federal wildlife law enforcement officer. Gorgeous “low country”, beautiful people (not so much the poachers) ….and fantastic food (highly recommend a wild hog “pig picking”!). Your cars, by the way, are gorgeous as well! I wish you many happy miles, amigo!

    I've had two 944 turbos. Very reliable. Never left me on the side of the road and I drove them hard. Pre-maintence is key. I drove to California from Minnesota and back. No problems. Decent mpg. Comfortable and a blast. Rather have on than the c5.

    Very good video, I came across a 1985 by accident in search of a first car to learn/grow with, out of all the sources I've come across, I never heard anything about replacing the timing belt after 40k miles, defiantly something I will look at if I end up checking out the car(it has 112k so that's something I'd need to ask about). I've heard a lot about these cars needing high maintenance, such that, but I had always looked at the 928 and the 944 with a lot of admiration, it's very different from most vehicles, yet it's similar in its own way. While I still have a few more I'm considering, I really see myself in one of these.

    • @deweylasv
      @deweylasv 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you own a 944, you must absolutely replace that timing belt every 40k to 50k miles. I'd also highly recommend a Porsche specialist to do the work. The 944 engine is rock solid, as long as the tolerances are followed precisely, to specification. Every nut & bolt must be torqued perfectly.

    The 944 has the true old school sports car driving feel IMHO. The power is less than modern cars so you can push it hard. ( Mine is stock for collector plates). It is no luxury sedan. It's a real sports car.

    I bought an 86 944 Turbo just like this, except for the wheels, same color. It had the original hp, but was still quick. I did s few things to the engine, and it was about 300hp, with 275ft. Lbs. You're right about the timing belt too my friend. I traded in a 280 ZX Turbo for it, and I loved it too.

    Thanks for sharing. Porsche 944 turbo a good investment if you got in at the right price. Flipping an asset (house) and buying a depreciating asset(C7 with injection molded plastic panels) will not lead to financial independence. Perhaps you should have moved upscale in your own home ownership? At least you would have a much bigger garage to service your vehicles. Just wondering....

      I own 4 investment properties outright....no mortgage (2 rentals & 2 flips), I have additional income as a realtor and I have income from a corporate IT/software sales job.....additionally all of my vehicles (I also have a 750i BMW & CBR100rr) are also owned outright.....I think I am doing "alright". As for my primary residence its not bad (I personally do not want a $500k monster house with a massive mortgage/debt) and considering I can sell one of my flips, take the proceeds from it and pay it off my primary house this summer. I think my financial strategy is better than 99% of people...100% debt free ;)
      Oh yeah...I kept the "depreciating asset" C7 Vette for 1 year, I had my fun and moved on from it....I picked up an "older" Porsche Carrera (which already had its depreciation slide and as Carerra's go....over time it will hold its value or go up).

      @@SAMMYJR00777 those numbers are for insurance companies. The turbo 2.5 sohc 944 puts a healthy 270 to the wheels, I promise. And I regularly hit 165-170 in it. You're not hitting over 165 with 214 hp. For example a 225 hp FOXBODY only does 145. And a 275 hp lt1 z28 does over 160. A 230 hp Acura cl with a j-series does around 145. And my 944s with the na3.0 dohc I4 can go over 145 it's 230 hp. If the turbo 944 was only 214 hp it would struggle to hit 135.

    I never get how building wealth is done by selling a home to buy a car. A home appreciates over time and a corvette sinks like a rock. I have a C4 with 18k miles and one of only 50 made, I have an 86 951 with 400 HP all JME, Speedforce and some Lindsey parts but only there decent stuff because a lot of it is crap, a 2600 sq.ft. home on 3 acres in Naples, Fl and a 1200 ft Steel building for my toys. A lifted golf cart for the kids, Camry for the wife and I drive a beater to work which is a modified Saturn wagon. I have learned that most of your money isn't wasted on cheap toys like these but on the small daily purchases like meals,entertainment and beverages. However, buying or leasing a new car is always a waste of money and car payments are for suckers unless you can pay it off at anytime.
