I like that "its not always the owner". So many people always want to say a dogs unwanted behavior is because of the owner, its the easy way to diagnose it. But its not reality, sometimes but not always.

Owner and dog did so well. The owner got it so quickly considering this was their first try at it. He had such good timing, something that can take a while to get. Love the ‘no petting’, I think we do that trying to make up for the correction, the dog doesn’t need it, we do 😂.

I love this video as it shows how you can work with a snappy dog and with corrections you can get them to be able to go to a dog park.. so many owners will benefit from this as they instead choose to keep their dog away from other dogs for the rest of their lives instead of working with them to allow them to still socialise whilst changing their behaviour. It’s really impressive and realistic… like all Joel’s videos!

I wouldn't call it a "stigma". It is a genetic trait. With certain dogs you can train good recall, but I would never tell a prospective Husky owner that they can definitely train good recall. It will be dog dependent with more huskies than not being terrible about recall. They love to run, pull. work and are INDEPENDENT thinkers. Super smart and ABLE to do anything you want them to, but you have to learn their motivation... because it definitely isn't to please you or me or anyone else but them. LOL
@@rachelb1879 This is so true, I have owned multiple huskies at the same time for 50 years. Very few did recall worth beans. They love to pull and run and you better be all right with it because that is what they are meant to do. I found a lot of dogs hate huskies and have to be careful around larger dogs.
My 10 month old husky loves to play with all dogs. But she scared most small dogs because of her hyperness. Though, found some Shiba Inu and Shelties that had fun playing with her. So far most big dogs loved playing with her, only a handful didn't like her (some owners thought it was weird because their dog usually loves all dogs too.) At 6 months old she even jumped over the back of a full grown male German Shepherd! 😅
Just recently got two pit bull husky mix dogs sister and brother. The boy dog is reactive to ANYONE and EVERY dog. I’ve tried your leash training with him and it worked. It’s been two days in a row where he’s heard a dog walking by and jumps through my living room window to get to the patio.
Great new intro. Great video. I think he's more reactive when there other dog is around. I know when I have more than one of my dogs playing with other dogs my dogs form there own pack and thats when I have problems cause they join in together. They are fine till someone gets mad then all my dogs go in for back up thats really hard to control since I have 5 dogs. Love the video
I think the natural stance of a husky makes it difficult for other dogs to read them. The tail upwards and ears pricked is quite a threatening stance for most dogs. I know my Labrador is very wary of them. They have become quite fashionable in the uk unfortunately sometimes with inappropriate owners who have little control.
And yet almost every dog that goes for my very calm husky is a lab. Sometimes people need to look at themselves before blaming everyone else around them

The way he gets them to not bite is to push the finger into the mouth catching the lips with the finger so that pupper bites his lips and figures out it is no fun to nibble on you. Joel hasn't said this but for my pupoer I have been giving him hard silicone toys to bite while we play and then I can kinda wrestle with him with one hand and hold the toy for a lil tug-o-war with the other hand. He likes that a lot🐾❤️
NEW INTRO SAY WHAAAA? Wasn’t expecting that lol used to the old one where I’m not sure what volume my TV is at so either the old intro would be so loud that it woke my kids or wasn’t loud enough that I would have to get up to turn up the TV and would still wake the kids up 😂
Great video. Another example of how having control before any 'event' (leaving the house for a walk, before entering a dog park etc. ) can help set you up for better success for the 'event'. Every day I look forward to your videos and they help keep me focused on what I need to do with my own dogs. Even if the situations or issues are a little different, there is always something to be learned or reminded of!
I finally just found this video, don't know why i didn't see it before. The owner did such a good job! My 9 month old husky doesn't have a very good attention span. 😅 Gentle leader doesn't work on her... She just pulls with her head sideways. 😅 (Of course the pulling isn't as hard, but still... I changed to a harness with a front clasp, she pulls the same, but I'm not worried about her neck.😅) She walks nicely after I tire her out with a jog/run first. 😆

First I'm so glad I found this channel! Second I have a husky German mix and he is a freak on a leash lol how do I get him use to even having it on to start with as soon as I put it on him he tries eating it
teach him difference between what he can put in mouth and not. praise for toys correction for anything else. Try a muzzle. If you are using a collar to connect the leash try harness. Practice leashing in house not just every time you want to go outside.

Whatever aid they're most likely to disobey, you have them obey. If they tend to rush, do rein backs. They tend to stop, push them forward. Over and over until your number's called. Kisses and hugs can come later!
Odin is just like my fluffy husky Zoey. she doesn't respond to commands though. she does and goes where she wants no matter how many times i give corrections.
Awesome!! And a new intro 😍. Why does a dog redirect??? I have a small dog (young intact male), who goes well with most other dogs, even in neutral areas with unknown dogs. Save a few that he really hates in our neighborhood 😅. Other than that he can get really angry when he can’t get to another dog on a walk, (frustration in combination with stress I think) when the leash goes tight. Even if it’s a female that he just wants to sniff. He’s redirected onto my pants a few times, as well as his dog brother. I think maybe the butt flick could work? Or grab him before and sit him down? I don’t know what best.😫🙈
Exactly my problem! My dog redirects his anger to the person behind the leash. I think he is just so frustrated that he can’t do whatever he wants.. would love to know how I can fix it especially because my dog goes nuts and I can’t just correct him because he doesn’t stop barking and freaking out..:(

He barks at random people on walks, kids and other dogs and it's honestly frustrating. I'm afraid all that leash tugging might affect his breathing in the long run?

I think he wants to make them run in order to chase them (he prefers to chase dogs rather than being chased). Also he is a mix breed probably border collie and English setter. Maybe its instinctual? Like herding? He hae never had a fight with another dog even when other dogs have attacked him. He is 9 years old and not socialised very well. Thank you in advance!
It’s an interesting issue, and I wonder about that too. I have a pit bull who has a high pitched bark when she plays, different from her protective bark. My Aussie mix will bark when she plays with the pit bull. My other dog, a bulldog mix doesn’t bark when she plays and the Aussie won’t bark when the two of them play. When all three play, the two barkers make some noise! So, maybe some is instinct and some of it is learned.🤷🏻♀️
I don't encourage toys either in a dog park situation. Don't allow him to bark. That will amp up everyone's energy and could cause a fight or major irritation.
Hey Joel, I have a 6month old GSD. I know they are meant to be naughty and hyper between 6-9 month. She does everything good at the beginning of the walk she waits at the door, she looks at me, etc... But half wait the walk she gets too frustrated by being on the leash and she starts jumping, nipping at me, in order to get free, and once a dog goes crazy on leash is difficult to stop it, basically the control lost..my question is when this happens how can we react to deescalate the situation. it also gets more difficult when she knows the walk is already over. She goes wild when we approaching the house...treats don't work, when I try to put her on a sit/stay she becomes more aggressive and her nipping becomes stronger/hurtful...it's seems she reacts towards me... well all her aggression is towards the person who is walking her. I shouldn't say aggression probably her reaction is part of her stage, terrible 2s .. can you do a video on this.
My dog used to do this from around the 5-9m stage. So annoying and discouraging. I used to turn my back to him and try to ignore but it never deescalated the situation and he’d sometimes hurt me. I started putting my knee up when he’d jump at me. That at least protected me, but he’d still continue crazily jumping and nipping me. I sometimes have to pin him down until he calmed down. I hated doing that, especially in public but it seemed to be the only thing that worked. I then started to anticipate it, make his leash range shorter when I started walking back to the house (his trigger). If he’d try to jump, I’d correct him with the leash, yell no forcefully and rush us back home and then put him in a time out. I think that’s what helped him stop but could also be because he grew out of it. But he never does it anymore. Keep at it, try to stay calm, be assertive and try different things. You’ll figure it out but from my experience, it’s that kinda stuff you just can’t ignore or use positive reinforcement to correct.
I taught my dog to jump on command and made him do it so many times that it isn’t fun to jump anymore. With the barking, just give a correction and turn around. Ask politely if they can stay where they are. Then take your dog towards them, when your dog starts barking, turn around. Do this until the dog is calm around the stimulating element. Once they complete a walk around with no reaction; reward them.
My husky does this with children when I'm not looking. I was looking in a shop window I didn't know there was a child had approached from behind I heard a squeele from behind he had nipped her. Very worrying indeed
I know when you put a baby Monkey on a leash and had two that wasn't.Just running around free.Well can you guess what one was at the bottom of that food chain.
I notice that there are no harnesses, only collars, is there a reason for that? I try to do the corrections you do but mine still goes after other dogs, to want to say "hi" or otherwise. She stops paying attention to me and focuses on the dog.
Gentle leader. When you do the 'pop' it basically forces the dog to look at you because it's attached to the face and not the neck. Also give yourself a fair amount of the leash to just... hold, if that makes sense, so when the dog pulls you have added reaction time and can anchor yourself, and when the dog gets to the end of that leash it creates a good pop to really jolt the dog back to attention.

I try this wil my boy tonight at dog class. Instuctor says to bring him to the class. We done one on one training with him before tonight.

Sounds like it! Maybe bring a ball to throw to get everyone moving and see if the barking settles.

I usually discourage my dog from barking like that when he plays because it just is too high energy and he gets carried away.

But half wait the walk she gets too frustrated by being on the leash and she starts jumping, nipping at me, in order to get free, and once a dog goes crazy on leash is difficult to stop it, basically the control lost..my question is when this happens how can we react to deescalate the situation. it also gets more difficult when she knows the walk is already over. She goes wild when we approaching the house...treats don't work, when I try to put her on a sit/stay she becomes more aggressive and her nipping becomes stronger/hurtful...it's seems she reacts towards me... well all her aggression is towards the person who is walking her. I shouldn't say aggression probably her reaction is part of her stage, terrible 2s .. can you do a video on this.
My dog used to do this from around the 5-9m stage. So annoying and discouraging. I used to turn my back to him and try to ignore but it never deescalated the situation and he’d sometimes hurt me. I started putting my knee up when he’d jump at me. That at least protected me, but he’d still continue crazily jumping and nipping me. I sometimes have to pin him down until he calmed down. I hated doing that, especially in public but it seemed to be the only thing that worked. I then started to anticipate it, make his leash range shorter when I started walking back to the house (his trigger). If he’d try to jump, I’d correct him with the leash, yell no forcefully and rush us back home and then put him in a time out. I think that’s what helped him stop but could also be because he grew out of it. But he never does it anymore. Keep at it, try to stay calm, be assertive and try different things. You’ll figure it out but from my experience, it’s that kinda stuff you just can’t ignore or use positive reinforcement to correct.
I taught my dog to jump on command and made him do it so many times that it isn’t fun to jump anymore. With the barking, just give a correction and turn around. Ask politely if they can stay where they are. Then take your dog towards them, when your dog starts barking, turn around. Do this until the dog is calm around the stimulating element. Once they complete a walk around with no reaction; reward them.
It looked to me like the white dog was the initial aggressor in this instance.
Slowing down the playback, the white dog does a play bow way too close to the Husky’s face, and that’s what caused the reaction.
My husky does this with children when I'm not looking. I was looking in a shop window I didn't know there was a child had approached from behind I heard a squeele from behind he had nipped her. Very worrying indeed

I notice that there are no harnesses, only collars, is there a reason for that? I try to do the corrections you do but mine still goes after other dogs, to want to say "hi" or otherwise. She stops paying attention to me and focuses on the dog.
Gentle leader. When you do the 'pop' it basically forces the dog to look at you because it's attached to the face and not the neck. Also give yourself a fair amount of the leash to just... hold, if that makes sense, so when the dog pulls you have added reaction time and can anchor yourself, and when the dog gets to the end of that leash it creates a good pop to really jolt the dog back to attention.
Huskies are bred to wear a harness and pull away from you.
