- Leonard Maltin sits down with Fess Parker at his winery in Los Olivos, CA. The pair share memories of what Disney was like during the Davy Crockett craze and more particularly, Fess provides some very entertaining commentary on what it was like to share screen time with all of the wonderful actors in the series: Jeff York (Mike Fink), Buddy Ebsen (Georgie Russell), Basil Ruysdael (Andrew Jackson), Mike Mazurki (Bigfoot Mason....who also had a similar role in The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin), Kenneth Tobey (James Bowie) and others.
My best friend knew how much I liked Davy Crockett that he brought back a bottle of Fess Parker best wine and he even signed it. One happy kid.

I grew up in Morristown TN where the real Davy Crockett lived age 6-20 since his father owned a tavern & lodging house for travelers. Fess Parker even came to Morristown's 1955 Centennial Celebration, and at age 6 I had my picture taken with him! A treasured memory!

I remember interviewing the two guys who produced this -- Jeff Kurtti and Michael Pellerin -- and reviewing this when it was first released for DVD decades ago. They produced such a treasure trove of Disney bonus features first for laserdisc and then for DVD, and Kurtti continues to author Disney books and host Disney events
I will forever be grateful to Jeff and Michael!! Recognizing the importance to interview these folks and having the legend Leonard conduct them.
@@keepingwaltindisney Leonard always shows such love and respect and he knows his subjects. He reminds me of the legendary newsmen of old who ruled the airwaves with benign calm and authority back in the day.
So much class. I am going to watch the Steve Martin documentary that just came out and I have a feeling that he, another Disney alumni - Steve worked at Disneyland - will show as much class. Kurt Russel and all the others who worked with Walt were all and still all just classy.
Fun, when I was at The Hollywood Reporter, I did a phone interview with him and he invited me up here. I eventually got up to his hotel in Santa Barbara after he had passed.

There's a wonderful gentility to this conversation that isn't often seen. Fess has a humble way about him that's very relaxing and soothing to listen to and Leonard always asks the questions respectfully, not digging for dirt or ugly gossip as is often the case with more contemporary interviewers and their celebrity targets. How refreshing to watch two gentlemen behaving themselves, comporting themselves as adults. Thanks so much for sharing this with us! I've got a lot of catching up to do, Brian! @keepingwaltindisney
