Thanks Glampitsi - you are correct. See my comment below - I did have to have the boiler replaced. Since then the control panel failed and the machine was laid to rest. I miss it!

@taye1234 Thanks for the advice. I tried cleaning the brew unit, the grinder box, etc. All without success. I took it in for service and the boiler needed to be replaced. Turns out those only have a 3-5 year useful life. And here's a tip - descale your machine monthly to keep your machine running smoothly.

Mine is still going strong for the last dozen or so years. I forgot exactly when I got it. Around 2010 or before. We use it almost daily and the only thing we have replaced on it is the water tank which got a crack in it.

Just bought one of these at a thrift store for $40 but it's only making espresso-sized servings no matter the drink size. Anyone have any idea what needs fixing/replacing? Still heats water and grinds beans fine.

      Here's the manual download.p4c.philips.com/files/0/0362.0rc.77j/0362.0rc.77j_dfu_eng.pdf
Page 7 at the bottom shows you how to adjust the amount of coffee in your cup.

Thanks. I had to have the boiler replaced. Just got the unit back. Evidently the boilers wear out after 4-5 years.

I make sure to clean and lubricate the brew group regularly and clean the coffee outlets (make sure you don't push hard enough that you knock the rubber hose off like I did the first time)

The problem is a faulty pump. The reason your water light is flashing after an unsuccessful attempt at making coffee is that because the pump is not working, the flowmeter doesn't register a water flow so it comes up with a ventilate signal which is the flashing water light. Just as a test. try running water through the steam arm by turning on the steam/water knob. If no water comes out, it will be a faulty or blocked pump.

Try taking out the brew unit, use the screw to remove the housing and clean the filter thoroughly. Put it up against a light and make sure you can see all the holes.
Remember the sequence of the disassembly and don't lose any part.

Was this problem ever fixed? Ours says to fill the water tank, but it’s filled to the brim. I’m sure it is a technical problem.

The fill tank problem is because your magnet thing in the water tank is not in correctly.
