Unlocking the magic in Lightnins mojo bag ..feels like the inner sanctum of church music of the American soul....a refuge for those who truely feel the blues...down to the bone, beneath the heart, beyond the realms of Lang age and art....oohh, Lightnin. Big Daddy rattles your bones....the inner sanctum...
As usual an unbelievable rendition of one the greatest! Thank you sir for giving your huge number of fans guidance, making us all extremely happy, but very, very envious of such talent.
You are surely a bluesman whose put a smile on my face (again) first thing in the morning during these uncertain times.I thank you once again, Daddy Stovepipe..
Your Lightnin Hopkins performances are fantastic! I felt in love with his music and trying to play his songs is really no that easy. Your videos are the best way to lern it! 👍
Back when I knew Lightnin in the early 70s, he had a big green Buick Electra that was one step below a Cadillac. He usually found white boys to drive him around for free, just to be near him for a while. He drank enough to warrant designated drivers. He played a Gibson J50 with a hanging DeArnond pickup. I have one just about like his. I don’t recall him bending the strings as far as in this video. I believe he mostly played on Black Diamond strings, which were very stiff. They were what was cheap and available back then. I saw him dozens of times in cheap bars and coffeehouses in Houston, and I even booked him for gigs. I had to find him at home, since he did not have a phone or a booking agent. He did things his own way and was one of a kind. In about 1973 he returned from a tour in California and was playing a Strat. It wasn’t quite the same vibe. Great video.
Daddy Stove pipe is a guitar wealthy guru. Thanks for sharing your part of Lightnings history. So much is never told. No fault of anyone but Treasures just the same.
Super Lesson!, I've had the luck to be listening to Lightnin' from early childhood on due to my fathers great taste in music. Although i've been playing the blues for over 35 years now, i still get new inspirations from each of your tutorials on Lightnin's unequaled style. Thanks a lot, greets from Germany, Dennis P.S. Are there any Lightnin' Hopkins fans around in the St. Augustin / Bonn area?
Oh boy, cheap car blues! Had that ,more than ones. Haha. Nice playing, and i like your voice. Nice and easy. Thanks man and all the best wishes from Holland.
