People did steal and sell all they could.
    Including doors, shutters and Windows.
They are exported to the whole world.
Same as in a lot of Asia.

These can be made into cafes . Funnily many houses in Varanasi have temples inside which are now coming out.

Maybe they were personal temples as every Hindu has a small mandir in their homes no matter the size of house .
So maybe they were built separately by rich Hindus of the past.

@@nuclear9977 but the size of temple uncovered are not small. They are typical big temples with shikhar, kalash and amalak. They predate the construction of house which encroached over it.

This is so different among Europeans. They have the same and live in the same antique houses and give it a modern touch to it and are thus able to display their culture. We should learn something from them

samething is happening in Jaipur । all the havelis in Jaipur are turning into complexes and commercial buildings । even Jaipur is known for heritage now comes under Unesco । but still government is doing nothing to preserve Jaipur heritage । it's all in books । every property dealer keeps eyes on havelis । so that they can monetize turn them in complexes ।

Most of these haveli’s are stuck in legal battles with partition cases on wherein brothers and sisters are fighting for their possession rights and when these partition cases finalises they are sold to builders.
Court cases linger around for decades with rampant corruption in judiciary

As somebody who was born and still lives in a 100 year old haveli I'll tell you some big problems in living in one -
    1. Usually haveli's are pretty big and are appropriate to house a big joint family but is a lot of burden to be taken care of by nuclear families
    2. Legal disputes are a common problem as generational transfer of will
    3. A big problem is how the surroundings have transformed that a lot of times roads are higher than the front door cheating a huge mess in rainy days
    4. Planning - though they were beautifully planned for that time it's super hard to integrate modern features like lights, water pipes, bathrooms, etc. (walls made of stones make transformations even harder)
So overall its a huge trouble to live in one and even though we are emotionally connected to it but still want to just escape as soon as possible. ❤

Those temples usually have most intricate designs and are architectural marvels... They r turning into ruins and attacked...

Save temples & other ancient monuments first which still holds the kind of knowledge we are oblivious about.
Then we'll focus on these.Anyways preserving history is important, We spend millions in preserving Islamic & British monuments but not spend as much on saving our own Indian heritage.
Anyways, it's we people who has to take stand now.

@@asmirann3636Many places were plundered all over the world, material treasures gone, sold, stolen but the dilapidated structures still can be restored and serve to any other purpose. It is worth trying to preserve what is left. It is about a will to do it and educate people to measure the value of their cultural heritage. Just an example: google the picture of Warsaw's (Poland) historical centre after WW2, il was completely destroyed but restored to their original form. Or the very picturesque Old Town part of Prague. I remember in the 1980s those historical buildings were there but they were looking quite seedy, in a sadden state, no coloured facades.
