    😂 I did the nonexistent stop sign thing yesterday because I was too busy thinking about a joke I was writing.

    My detail oriented ISFJ son saw the bewildered look on my face when I opened a box that had a bunch of different shaped plastic pieces and a complicated looking booklet of instructions. It was supposed to be an organizer for the spices in my kitchen cabinet. To my relief he gladly offered to put it together or it would still be in the box! Thanks for the positivity of I Speak People. The world would be a pretty boring place if we were all yellow Volkswagens. LOL

    I totally identify with this absent minded-ness but I wonder if other INFJS are super observant as I am about other people, I see and hear everything and notice tiny details about people which makes it easy to pick up on changes in people and understand them better - so we can do detail :)

    • @snowflakestarprincessakiko6013
      @snowflakestarprincessakiko6013 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is exactly INFJ right here, we focus on different things, so since we're highly interested in analyzing people, we're people-watchers and truth-seekers by nature, we do this.
      However, we can completely miss the environmental sensory, we don't pay attention to random stop signs, because we're thinking about people, instead of inanimate objects.
      We can easily miss anything in the road, because we're usually looking at the global big picture, and we miss the individual trees quite often.
      I try to pay attention to details consciously, so that I don't miss out on anything, but this causes stress and anxiety, it isn't natural to do, people-watching is always natural :).

      If you don't already, try reading your content upside down or in the mirror. It keeps your creative side occupied since it must reorient everything as you read it. Plus, you are forced to deal with each word out of context before mentally reinserting it into its clause. This is an excellent way to catch run-on sentences and repeated words.

    Thank you again!! this was so helpful. my husband is the compete opposite and it makes communication SO hard!! he wants the details that I don't always have when trying to show him the big picture and I feel stupid when I don't have a name or whatever he wants...and it makes me seem like I don't know what I'm talking about! rrrg

    So true... I really try to keep things organized, but this summer, my son and I had VIP tickets for a meet and greet at a fave band's show in the city. I had to plan for summer traffic, had to pick my son up on the way to the show... I'd google mapped the route to the venue, to figure out the best time to leave. I'd printed out the tickets and VIP tickets when they were ready. The day before the show, I had a TON of errands that took me all over my state. Plus a temporary crown had fallen off, so I had to get that reinstalled the day before. All kinds of sensory stimuli and so, so, so much planning! What did I do? I screwed up the meet & greet time, and we missed it by almost 2 hours. Should've had my ISTP son do the planning, as his INFJ mom dropped the ball.

    I find that dealing with a limited amount of details is quite manageable, but it gets exponentially more difficult keeping track of them, as the amount of details increase linearly.
    I am currently employed as a programmer and this issue is starting to show itself more and more, as I am assigned more complicated tasks to execute (because in the field of programming, experience / seniority -> more complicated tasks regardless of actual ability to execute them).
    For example, if I am assigned to build a feature with a fairly small amount of details, it looks like a feature I've made before and I am using technology I'm experienced at using, I'll typically knock it out in no time at all.
    Ni provides the framework for executing the task, and I don't have to rely as much on an "active" mind map of the details, as they are pulled from the Ni "pattern". I find it enjoyable, fun work, perform as or above expected (because of INFJ perfectionism) and generally leaves me satisfied with my work.
    But if it is a completely new feature, using new technology with a lot of complicated details, I often struggle making it all come together. In this situation, where I don't have an established "pattern" from Ni to work off of, I have to tap into both Ti and Se to complete the job (third and fourth functions in our cognitive stack).
    This often makes doing the job really, really frustrating and, especially when stuck with a problem for a long time, very dissatisfying work. My performance is usually also sub-par due to these factors, which makes it very difficult to "keep up" with the performance of Ti and Se oriented colleagues.
    Guess I probably should be looking for a career change, teaching programming instead of practicing it - it'd allow for a more Fe oriented career, but still allow me to exercise the parts of Ti and Se I enjoy about programming. :)
    ... And don't get me started on driving a vehicle - the amount of details can be overwhelming, especially at highway interchanges or large intersections/roundabouts.

    • @neiln4478
      @neiln4478 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally can relate! When i started driving, it was a nightmare, trying to keep track of all the cars and pedestrians, until someone explained i could leave 95% of that out and focus only on the car that stopped just before / opposite me at the intersection. I was more-or-less forced into a career in finance but i found it easier once i worked out a system for managing the details, and in my studies, conceptual frameworks that helped me understand the details and how they relate to one another

    Details have been on my mind lately. I'm closing in on fifty, but still need to finish my degree. It seems detail oriented person can make a lot of money with an associates or bachelors, while a big picture person needs a masters to make ends meet! So, either I choose a career where I work overtime to be mediocre and exhausted, or get into a lot of student loan debt to do something I'm naturally inclined toward. Sigh. I know this video is old, but any auggestions for a "big picture" career with a bachelors or less would be appreciated. 😊

    Even at this stage of my life, when I do an INFJ "no-brainer," like looking non-plussed at the people who aren't taking the right-of-way and then it turns out it's because I have it, I still bash myself black-and-blue and call myself names such as "Stupid!" and "Dummy!" It's part embarrassment and part ego. I made a mistake (shame on me); I made a mistake (but you never make mistakes!) It's the Catch-22 of being INFJ writ large! :-)

    I get the INFJ result every time i take an online test. I studied accounting and now after some years of practice i want to do something diferent. Why was it that i studied accounting, it seemed like a great idea at that time and i remember enjoying my time in college. What happened? Did i changed or did i get confused? Do you know anyone who has had this happened to them? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    • @ispeakpeople
      @ispeakpeople  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Steve! Great question. I took an intro to accounting course and enjoyed it. I also know INFJs who enjoy a bit of accounting. We like to organize and keep systems with a few details. Also, the college environment seems to be lower stress. There's less housework, cooking, cleaning, bills, and other odds and ends to take care of. All the demands of the real world and endless, focused detail management as an accountant could get more than a bit overwhelming fast - especially during tax season! It doesn't seem overly surprising that you'd be interested in pursuing something else now.

      Steve Igi Take heart. I've been doing accounting for 20 yrs. It has filled many of desires for being honest, accurate and creatively using different tools to achieve perfection quickly. However, the draw back I experienced was I was too good at my job. Which kept me in one accounting position. I felt as if my wings were clipped. Are you experiencing a man made cap on your potential?
      I love what I do now. I still do accounting. But, I train and help others learn and to be better. I am forever surprised how many people cannot see the past the monitor screen. This keeps them from finding solutions. I find it easy to understand the various cycles and how they fit in the bigger picture and creatively hit goals or overcome problems give me a thrill. Yes, there are headaches at times. I still love going to work and seeing my staff everyday. I hope this experience for you someday in the near future.
