    The skills you teach your kids will last a lifetime. My son at 16 began importing car front clips from Japan and installing them due to a terribly crotchety mechanic that took a liking to him. At 17 he started as a go-for with a small construction company. He now is an incredible genius fixing Navy helicopters and recently installed his solar including electrical. He commented that he has never had to call for car mechanic, builder, landscaper or home appliance help. This due to the men who took an interest and taught my son. These men are forever my heroes. Now my son serves this fine country with leadership, teaching, keeps the birds flying and two radio wave White Papers supported by the Pentagon. Not possible without the men who moulded my son into a man. Thanks for all you do for your family and men of the future.

      My dad didn't have a b-i-l... but a lifelong friend who worked for Haliburton - same thang. He came to stay with us on his month long breaks from working in ME 1950s-60s.
      My dad's gov't subsidized grain storage/quonset barn is about the only one left in our area that's still standing. Frame erected by professional welder makes a difference.

    Not trying to rain on the family’s parade, but…
    Hopefully you intend to go back over Every weld you made with 6010/7010 with a Low Hydrogen rod (7018) due to the drill stem pipe you’re using! Each and every weld will crack just from the pipe expansion and contraction between the cool of the night and the heat of the day!
    Did your BIL explain that fact to you? It’s a fact!

    • @anchorbrandranch
      @anchorbrandranch  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am sure you know your welding stuff so I’m not gonna argue your opinion it’s probably correct. I don’t know all of the ins and outs of the different kinds of rods but from my perspective I can’t see how some cracks in the weld can be the end of the world in this fence. First of all I fit the rails so tight that I had to beat them down into place and then welded all the way around probably too hot with penetration into both the rail and the posts. Maybe someday I’ll regret it but I’m gonna go on with life and hope for good luck 🍀
      Thanks for the advice on the 7018
      Guess we’ll have to practice with it
      That stuff seems to hate cowboys and ranch projects 🤣

      I understand and meant no disrespect or trying to put your hard work down at all!
      I’m a cowboy myself and learned the hard way. I actually had to go back and re-weld with the low hydrogen rod on my own arena.
      Just thought I would pass along what I learned from the older professional welders. 😊

    I have noticed in the western states oil pipe seems to be the preferred choice of materials for fencing. I understand the value in strength and longevity, but what about the cost? To me it looks to be very costly based on what we would have to pay for piping in the Midwest. Do you have a source for pipe that has been used previously and therefore inexpensive?

  • @johnprice58
    @johnprice58 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey! All those gaps in the welds are on purpose'; they let the rainwater drain out so the pipe wont rust! Just sayin'.......

    A non ranch hand has a couple questions/comments.
    First are you going to have Robbie build you a second goat ? Would make your cutting easier I think... And an awesome way to get his arc welding start...
    Next time your in Cedar Harbor Freight has some really cheap acetaline welding/cutting glasses.
    Lastly just because I have to ask does being a ranch hand still pay $20 a month plus room and board ?😊

    Do you use a ground magnet to get all the steel so horses and cattle don't get it in their feet. I know a Farrier and he had one on little wheels he rolls around to pick up shoeing nails

  • @chriscook8076
    @chriscook8076 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just out of curiosity, why use barbed wire, unless you have a bunch? Why not use barbless wire? That way you don’t cut up a horse or steer if for some reason they rub up against the fence. Just a thought. It’s going to be a nice arena when it’s done though. Great job!

    • @chriscook8076
      @chriscook8076 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @gunnytinman On the other hand, I’ve had 2 different horses require a bunch of stitches caused by barbed wire. Cow hide is a lot tougher.

    I have so many questions,,,,where do you get the cedar stays? How deep into the ground are the upright posts set? Did you make post holes with a machine? I sure would hate to think you dug all those by hand. How many miles of pipe in total ? 😅 can hardly wait for the opening day of this great arena ! Gonna be a celebration for sure .
