“FROM THE BACKGROUND TO THE FOREFRONT - Plants becoming protagonists” is the title of the 2024 International Call for Artists for Plants which asked artists from all over the world to put Plants in the foreground, in the spotlight, to change the paradigm and (re)position them where they should be and where they belong: centre stage, with the aim of raising awareness among the widest possible public about the fundamental role of Plants and the plant world for the very survival of the Planet.
The Call 2024 was developed in collaboration with the OTONGA FOUNDATION, created in 1997 with the aim of defending the Otonga forest in Ecuador from destruction and deforestation and preserving the great heritage of plant and animal biodiversity it contains, which is among the most important on Earth.
It is precisely at the Otonga Foundation that the artworks selected by the Jury for Call 2024 “FROM THE BACKGROUND TO THE FOREFRONT - Plants becoming protagonists”, has been screened as a premiére, at the Environmental Education Centre (CEA): a digital gallery consisting of 20 works of different kinds, from 17 countries, selected by the jury from over 100 received in response to the Call from the 5 continents.
A selection of ‘firsts among equals’, which reaffirms and confirms the relationship between art and science.
