I appreciate your honesty. I've been working (unarmed) security for 5yrs and I've been thinking about becoming an armed guard for a while but taking my time with that decision. After this video...I think I'm gonna hold off on that for a while. I already get paid pretty well for unarmed and I think I'm gonna see how far I can take it, while still unarmed. Thank you

Wow! This is good stuff man! I always thought like this cause I'm debating getting my armed gun license (live in NYC) but it's so refreshing to actually hear it. If I do get a gun, I might want to imagine it's not even there until it's time to utilize it.

The only thing I don't understand is the whole "Is it worth it". I get you are trying to help people understand the consequences of pulling the trigger. What I don't understand is if there is an assailant and you don't have a gun..... your odds of fatality increase dramatically. I've been mugged before (in a gun free zone) and it taught me that if people want to do damage. They will. I really do love your video explanations and I hope that anybody who goes into security or anything close to it finds your videos. They also need training. Training never stops. Learning never stops. Learning the law around these matters is every bit as important as proficiency with your weapon. Stay vigilant brother.

Yeah I too get what he is saying in the video but unarmed security doesn't make sense to me at all hents the word security ,how can you do security if you doing security and are not secure your self , Yes it goes back in training knowing what not to do or knowing the laws . What difference does Make if your a security officer or citizen just know what your doing and own it . It seems in his video that because your a security officer you can get in so much trouble and law suits , your company may fire you at Long as the shooting is justified ,I don't understand all this crap about laws suits and getting a lawyer . Justified shooting is justified shooting ,you have to prove mallace or in tent to harm someone so if they can't do that I'm shooting some one if it is diffentley needed it's my life or my family life .not worried about some ass hole trying to kill me or lawyer s and being sued . Nothing wrong with feeling bad about talking some one life if you had to use deadly force ,but the world we live in today , again know your weapon your training and the dos and don't of using deadly force yes law in forcemeat do have special powers when shooting some one. But you don't need to be a police officer to shoot some one in self defense. Just saying

Ive been an Armed Guard in California and Florida, and you are right on the money, it really isnt worth it from a financial aspect...i wish someone told me this before i wasted years doing it.....but what i came to realize is that being armed does not pay that much more at the end of the day..,(exactly what you said...plus ammo is getting more expensive, more laws, and cost of new ,renewing permits)....but it does give you the abilty to get a better work assignment (or post) and more hours if you want them....for example something closer to your home that pays 2 bucks more, and that fits your lifestyle schedule because you are armed....better than getting nothing at all...or only a part time shift with hours that ruin your day....either way thanks for the vid. stay safe bro.

I own a security company in, California and Securiry companies with armed contracts should have at least minimum of, 5 to 7 million dollar liability policy. Majority of shootings, even justified ones, can cost 3 to 5 million in defense costs and other costs for defending the officer and company. Plus, even in justified shootings, the family of the person killed and or injured will sue still and usually gets awarded money, around 500k to 1 million. So, having 5 to 7 million in liability insurance coverage is definitely worth it. It honestly doesn't cost a ton more in monthly premiums for the 5 to 7 million coverage. I mean, a company with 15 employees with a 1 million dollar coverage is only around, 300 to 350 a month. 2 million is only like, 40 to 70 bucks more each month. 7 million can cost around, 1k to 1.5k a month but is definitely worth it. Most security companies do not have 7 plus million dollars laying around in savings for a shooting defense and lawsuits. While still having funds to continue to operate the business.

I’ve carried a firearm for 42 years. Air force Law Enforcement, DOD contracts, US Army/DOD Civilian, private security. It’s a mindset. You don’t learn that in a couple weeks class. It takes years. My advise, Go military or police before working private armed security. Also buy some lawful carry insurance in case you shoot someone. If you’re doing it just to carry a gun, you’re highly mistaken.

    Things I have noticed-
    Armed guards get more respect.
People will not test armed guards as much as unarmed guards.
Armed guards get placed in more dangerous sites.
Armed guards get much better pay based on company.
Armed guards Usually carry non lethal weapons with them as well. (pepper spray and baton)
Unarmed guards get more relaxed sites.
Unarmed guards Typically deal with more commercial sites. (Stores and malls)
Unarmed guards get messed with more.

In short, armed posts are "better" in most ways but as noted, you need to be mature, able to know the laws, gear, ammunition, tactics, etc. In the 2020s, far to many private companies hire or pick un-qualified, immature guards, officers. An ex cop or retired SF military guy can't turn a 21yr old into a skilled officer, competent in 3 days, 3 weeks. Armed officers need to stay focused on the industry, training, laws. ⚖️

Good insight, but I think the one cost you didn’t add in is the one that’s most important....your own life.
Respectfully, working as an unarmed guard is extremely reckless. You are assuming all of the risk of a first responder with even less of the potential safety equipment of that of an armed guard. Security personnel are already at a great disadvantage being known and recognized as “not law enforcement”, and not having even the visual deterrent of a firearm in my opinion is placing your life in a multiplied amount of danger. If you aren’t making a significant amount more as an armed guard, I would say that you have chosen the wrong company. Remember, we don’t get paid what we are worth, we get paid what we accept. All of the extra time, effort and commitment you explained in being an armed guard is worth the extra pay, even when asked to work an unarmed site, but that’s a completely different conversation.
Love what you’re doing and what you’ve built here my man. All said with respect, and wishing you continued health and prosperity.

If you want to carry a gun get a ccw. I’ve been working as an unarmed security for 7 years and this is my first month being armed for just $17 per hour in California. The class and equipment is about $3,000 total. I really thought I was going to make “money”. It’s easy work, but when it comes down to it when someone has a gun to the clients employees face will you let them die or defend them and yourself? I regret paying for all that. If I knew it cost that much I would’ve went a different route, but I already paid for everything so there’s no going back. Everything decon said is 100% facts. If you plan on getting your exposed carry get a yearly plan with a certified exposed carry permit range so you could go any time without having to pay extra. And like he said, a civil lawsuit might occur when you’re laughing and eating steak with your family.

I work for a big company securing one of the biggest hospitals in one of the most dangerous cities in the united states and we have 25 blocks to cover in our city. We are the best because we're trained by the best. I agree with what your saying with a firearm however in our city people like to shoot at you. So, that may not be the best advice pending on where you work. If in your mind you don't think you could take a life to save someones or your own then you do no need to be a guard of any kind. Also saves a lot of money not having to pay for requals, license fees, training, etc. I prefer armed because I want the ability to protect others and myself of course.
