  • ACAMS Live on Combatting Money Laundering Linked to Illegal Wildlife Trade
In June 2020, The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) labelled illegal wildlife trade (IWT) as a "significant transnational organized crime," urging governments, anti-corruption bodies, banks and other institutions to enhance actions against money laundering efforts.
At a recent United for Wildlife Global Summit in Singapore, governments showed an unprecedented demonstration of global commitment to combat the IWT, where seven countries have agreed to new measures to clamp down on financial crime fuelling the illegal wildlife trade.
Following the success of this Summit, David Fein, Co-Chair of United for Wildlife and Vice Chair of the Earthshot Prize, talked to ACAMS’ host Craig Timm in this ACAMS Live episode, to shed light on the issue of IWT.
They explored the nature of the crime, share news of the new multi-national agreement and discuss the role that AML professionals can play in the fight against IWT.
Note: this video is a recording of a live session.
