personally i think he is a genius - or at least, brilliant. He says things which take note of everyday happenings. Some of his work admittedly is, better than others, I think that his coloured sheets are particularly brilliant, as is the on - off. The stacked chairs are less so. But why? Is this personal taste, or factual judgement. Why is a Van Gogh better than a Hirst, or the sand castle that you made on the beach when you were small? Is it because of the skill involved? I think that Creeds work actually counters some of these questions, avoiding the obvious questions of "what is art" and focusing more on the ideas and thoughts behind it. His works are "things that I've made for people to look at." Admittedly some of his works are relatively shallow, he acknowledges this and concludes that he wants to make better artwork than this. this I think, is enough
It's definetly a song by the German underground-rock CAN, I'm not sure which one, though. Looks like you'll have to do some research, but I laid it out for you.
"Life's like a big messy soup with everything going in all directions at once and nothing under control really. For me these works help me with my messy life. It's like a wee bit of order." This explains why such mundane activities satisfy Creed and are a focus to achieve meaning and even mental health. The reasons for his making the work are very different to the reasons for it being appreciated, which are the novelty and the unusualness of somebody (outside of a mental institution) doing such things and obviously taking them quite sincerely as a serious activity. But the bottom line is that they are the product of dysfunctionalism - a sadly limited view of existence and an inability to fathom and process its wider perspectives.
+Charles Thomson Aren't great artists always thinking outside of the box of mental normality? Doesn't he believe in himself in a unbelievable way? Do you think his life is that messy? Isn't he a successful self employed member of society? Doesn't he move people?
Because great artists might think outside the box of mental normality, doesn't mean people who think outside the box of mental normality are great artists, nor necessarily anything but abnormal or disfunctional. Lots of people believe in themselves in an unbelievable way - unbelievable because you can't actually believe there's anything much to be worth believing in with them. I don't know much about his life, but he presumably does and he thinks it's messy. Looking at the way he talks, I'm quite prepared to believe him. He is certainly successful in conventional terms of fame and fortune, but then a lot of unfortunate people are. He may well move people. He moved me to post here.
what inconsistency! with the cacti, he wants order with the sheets, he wants randomness 'the best work would be totally uncontrolled' and yet he likes order someone explain, please
Blimey he won a Turner prize for turning the lights on and off . Tracey got rich for an unmade bed. .......... Howz about if I wipe my bum , keep the toilet tissue , frame it and call it "Life Is Shit"
A surrealist artist, a joy and a philosopher.
He understands what life is all about.
Awesome conceptual artist, a real art thinker.
The cactuses we relate to memories stuck under a desk at a CEOs office in Los Angeles with sand catusus without the cactuses
art is about saying something. If he can do this with things which do not represent "real/ or traditional art" then surely the "art" is no less.
