in my opinion 1999's The Mummy is the perfect action adventure film. it has everything, Action, Suspense, romance, Horror, adventure and comedy and it perfectly balances them all. the ultimate thrill a minute summer Blockbuster. they just don't make them like they used too.

I for one think the 1999 Mummy superior to the Hammer horror flicks it was based on, precisely because the focus wasn't so much on the Mummy himself as on Rick O'Connell, whose motto might as well be "I can do this all day!"

I think it doesn't detract from the overall quality of the LOTR films to point out that the first one premiered at the end of a very bad year in real life. "The Fellowship of the Ring" in movies and "Band of Brothers" on TV were the perfect anodyne for a world still reeling from 9/11.

As good as the first Pirates of the Carribean movie was, I thought the the second movie Dead Man's Chest was a far superior swashbuckling adventure film with the introduction of the cursed octopus pirate Davy Jones and his crew along with the build up to the Kraken at the end leaving us a stellar cliffhanger that left the audience wanting more. Not to mention some fun and exciting action sequences throughout that were both epic and humorous at the same time.

Technically Star Wars would fit the adventure franchise if it didn't create Sci-fi back in 1977. Also Indiana Jones and the last crusade deserves to be on this list if all three LOTR movies get the top spot but I understand why its not. If I could have multiple of a series and Star Wars was excluded my list would look like this:

Lots of great movies on this list... PotC, LotR, Indiana Jones, Labyrinth, Princess Bride are all among my favorite movies. I feel like National Treasure (2004) should have been on this list, it's a great adventure too! :)

All these great movies, this is going to make me get nothing done because I have to go watch some.
But Lord of the Rings was boring. You need to swap number one and two. 😂

A decent list, especially # 1 & 2. I would place Jurassic Park and The Goonies much higher though. I would also swap The Princess Bride for Romancing the Stone. And finally, adding Back to the Future ( any of the 3) would have been a nice nod.

There's one iconic moment from Raiders of the Lost Ark that doesn't come up as often as IMHO it should.
Captain Katanga is frantic. Nazis have boarded his ship and taken both his unspeakably important cargo and his female passenger on their Evil U-Boat of Evil, and now even his male passenger has disappeared! "Where is he?" he growls at his first mate.
Whose eyes widen just before he gasps, "I just found him."
    "Where?"
"THERE!" And the first mate points at ---
ACK! WTF! WASSA MATTA WID U BOI? U TINK U CAN TAKE ON A U-BOATLOAD OF EVIL NAZI STORMTROOPERS ALL BY YOURSELF? JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?
But the soundtrack's already rising in joyous response --
O YE OF LITTLE FAITH! YOU THINK A U-BOATLOAD OF EVIL NAZI STORMTROOPERS IS ENOUGH TO STOP HIM? HIM?!? JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK HE IS?!? HE'S IN - DI - A - NA JO -O - ONES!!!
    DA DA-DA DA! DA DA-DA! DA DA-DA DA! DA DA-DA DA-DAAA!!!
