Kevin Drake, a former Major League Baseball player, returns to his hometown after ending his career. Traumatized both physically and emotionally, he struggles to find new meaning in life. The main reason for his return is the need to confront his stepfather, Frank, who abused him and his family for years.
Kevin is faced with painful memories of his childhood when his mother, Lucy, was unable to protect him from Frank's cruelty. As Kevin tries to rebuild his relationship with his younger brother, Tommy, he realizes that old wounds still hurt. The situation escalates when he discovers that Frank continues to abuse the family, especially Tommy.
Gathering all his strength and courage, Kevin decides to confront Frank. He forces his stepfather to answer for his actions, trying to find peace for himself and his family. The climax is an emotional confrontation that changes the lives of everyone involved and gives Kevin the opportunity to move trinianpal512 forward.

My father passed when I was 12 years old. My stepdad stepped up and was an awesome father the rest of his life. When I met my wife, she had a young son and I stepped up. When he became an adult, he told me I was the dad his dad could never be. Not all stepparents are bad. But people have a tendency to focus and acknowledge the bad ones and forget about the good ones.

My so called dad took off and left my brother and I and my mom remarried...thank god for my stepdad stepping up and being a real man... growing up i thought my real dad was a tough guy and not so much for my stepdad but I'm grown now and realize who the tough man really was.. being a man is not just being physically tough and talking and acting tough but it's being there for your family when times are tough along with the good times....i have so much more respect for my stepdad than my real dad and i never thought I'd feel that way...i learned everything from my stepdad about how to survive life and i learned nothing except maybe trying to act tough from my dad and that's sad he was suppose to be the one to teach me... sorry for the long comment but this runs deep in my soul.. how could anyone leave their kids behind to fend for their selves 😮

I grew up in that kind of hell. There's nothing to forgive. I've built a better life, and I knew I wouldn't settle for less. You never forget the past, and I am so grateful for the life we have now. But it leaves something inside you; it never truly goes away. You tend to trust people until they prove you wrong for trusting them. You see more in everything around you than the average person does.

So true and facts! And I'm sorry but then when an evil human being that was your family at one point, thinks they can turn written pages in a book and believe that they are a better human being now..... Um no wtf! And I can't stand when someone tells me to forget the past.... Because it doesn't ever go away, you just survived it! And then you try to live the best way you can without them! I absolutely have nothing to do with my parents anymore and they are not my parents! They just had unprotected sex and created me, never real love! Only abuse!

Her next husband never hit me but he belittled me all the time. I was done by 16 and left. 2 failed marriages and 2 kids later I took back my self worth and esteem. I've been happy ever since 🙂

I’m old, thank heaven. All my life, I have told people planning to marry someone with children that if you cannot love the children as your own, you have no right to marry their parent. The children should always come before you. If you can’t do that, then walk away. Anyone who marries someone with children and does not put them first, is worse than the parents that bore them and created this situation. Why? Because the situation was present when you came into the picture and you have more information to assess, to make better decisions. Children are always your children. Unfortunately in our society today spouses are not always your spouse. Thank God for those step parents that are able to love others children.

Sad to see that some women let their children to be abused by fathers or step-fathers and said they're afraid. Only caring decent people suffer from injustices served on them , the absolute bastards who are uncaring , selfish, and of the same mould of their abusers manage to sail through life without a care . In my opinion only, parents need to admit sometimes they're wrong and they don't know everything. Especially as their children get older. Kids are not as naive as people think, they just don't know how to process it. But they know right from wrong. All kids deserve a chance to thrive.

Today I have no ill feelings toward those who beat me. If they were alive today I would shake their hand and be very nice to them. If you are in a bad situation, make the best of it, learn, educate yourself and know its temporary. The right attitude will go a long way for a better future.

I have decided to be the kind of Mom she wasn’t when she was drinking. Our life after 9 years of age was very scary. I ended up in the hospital with internal injuries, due to my mother knocking me down a flight of stairs. I ran away from home at 16 But was allowed to go live with my sister through the courts. Came back after graduating and she tried to do the same so I left and never looked back. Family abuse is silent, no one knows except the ones enduring it.

I know what it's like to be beat by a father, stepfather, and uncle, and ministers at a children's home. Beat on a sofa with an extension cord because I spotted my pants when I was 5 or 6 years old, I awoke with a case of the runs, and I darted for the outhouse, but I spotted me pants on the way. That was just the first I remember, but there many more. The preachers in the children's home beat us like he was scourging satin himself. My Mom returned took me from the children's home. I now had a stepfather, and he told me when I needed a helping hand, I should look on the end of my wrist. At 13 I worked washing dishes for 50 cents an hour to have lunch money at school and any new clothes. There were times I wanted to give up, and once even slashed a wrist, but a knock came to the door and it was for me, a guy with no friends. Someone I played football with and when he saw he scolded me, wrapped wound and hid it from my mother. Looking back, I can see God always had a light on and I was never in total darkness. I'm old and this is just a fraction of my tale, and what a rollercoaster it has been. With the help of God, I forgave all of them, and am learning to forgive myself. I wasn't raised by Angels and have never been one. When I reflect on my life, looking through clear water, not muddy water, I cannot judge others. I don't know what they went through in life. Walk a mile in someone's shoes, hell I ain't walked one step in someone else's shoes. I've never pushed a blind man down a flight of stairs for bumping into me. Ya'll be good to each other.

"Kevin Drake, a former Major League Baseball player, returns to his hometown after ending his career." Who is Scotty and where is Kevin? I had a step dad mean as hell. I did find his 357 and when he was beating my Ma, I did point it at him with full intention of killing him but a neighbor called the cops and they came and arrested him. Then we went camping and ma and he were cooking food on a campfire. I had a plateful and was eating when he started beating her again. I dumped my food on the ground and threw my plate. It hit him in the ear and severed half of it off. the plate rolled partway around his head. It took more than 60 stitches to close him up and reattach his ear. The fire warden/deputy who we reported to asked me if i played baseball/ I told him yep, I was a catcher. He said I should have been a pitcher. I was in 5th grade at the time. We moved out away from him and he stalked us but I saw him and we reported him. I do not know what happened to him after that. My Brother and sister lived in IL with Dad and this took place in Phoenix where Ma and the step dad lived. Mom sent us home at the end of the summer and a while later she came back too. Mom had rotten luck with husbands. She got married again and that one tried to bully me and my Brother. I told them either they toss all 6 cases of beer they had in the car trunk into the river or I would shoot him. Stepdad was furious but I had his 12 ga shotgun pointed in his direction so he was not much of a problem and had to watch my Brother toss the beer into the Cedar river in Iowa. I was a freshman at the time. The next guy Ma married was a thief. Thanksgiving day the FBI arrested at my Brother's place in Fayetville NC. He was a legal advisor to a Colonel (as I remember it. But this may have been my memory acting up again) at Ft. Bragg. I was living in Northern MN at the time. Mom never married again. But she never gave up living. However, too much beer and a big brain tumor finally beat her. This is a hard movie for me to watch.

    This type
of abuse should not be tolerated and a Mother should stand up for her children until its not too late.

A parent who has kids has to be very strict and careful about the next step one who’s going to be parts of the family and taking enough time to know that person 😮 and never forget kids come first 😊

He didn't return home to protect his Brother and Mother. He came home for revenge. Did he love his father inspite of the beatings? Did he want his father to suffer a death by lung cancer? The whole movie seemed a little off. What would we have done under similar sercumstances? I hope we would have sought help earlier in this type of mess.

Brilliant movie thanks. Very sad mother had no back bone, she should have left. Cancer is caused by stress sometimes. So sad.

This world could have been a beautiful place...shame people with their evil agendas have turned it into a hell....my mother was my abuser, she stuffed up my life and just made excuses for what she did...I tried so hard to forgive but the hurt made me angry...an anger I took out on those around me.
The past isn't the past, it stays with ya. It bloody haunts the memories of why I wasn't loved, why was I hated so much, why was I beaten for being Alive....???
67 almost and these questions are still in my head....what a fucked life that could have been so much better with a little love instead of hate.
