Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce is one of the best wooden roller coasters in the world, and it's even more awesome at 60FPS!
That 60 fps video speed changes everything - now even TH-cam POV's make you feel like you're actually riding the coaster.
I love this kind of ride when you got the feeling that speed never decreases !
lol. Just got banned from the Facebook version of TPR. Been following them for years and love all the coasters and videos. Make a comment about ONE video being annoying, and get banned indefinitely from all of it. And what's worse is they go on to boast about how smart they are for banning the people from ONE negative comment, out of thousands of videos. Yeah. You guys are incredibly smart. Please ban me from your youtube too please. Don't ever want the chance to accidentally associate with you again.

Old coaster nut here. This one looks awesome. Proof that height and loops are not what make a coaster great. Imagination and ingenuity is what does it.
Indeed Height and Loops are pointless gimmicks designed mainly to attract idiot teenagers who don't know shit about what a real roller coaster is... Tbh if Cedar Point closed the only unforgivable loss would be Blue Streak, and the lighthouse.
chdreturns I wouldn't say that height and loops are pointless as they clearly add their own dimensions to a ride, but they are certainly not necessary to have a really great coaster.
+chdreturns That is a disservice to the Mine Ride and Raptor.
The best things on a coaster are length, duration, layout, elements, needs to keep speed or have alot of hangtime, g-forces and airtime IMO

A day at Lake Compounce: Riding Boulder Dash 7 times, doing a few flats, skipping over their Vekoma boomerang, getting whiplash on Wildcat, Riding Boulder Dash 5 more times, doing the water park, doing the raft ride, and basking in the eternal glory of free soda.
Kind of sounds like my day at LC! Lol
+Sean Patterson Be honest. You can ride Boulderdash in 2015, which is a fifteen year old wooden roller coaster seven times in one visit? Really? Really? Be honest. You can handle the potholes on this thing seven times? Are you an MMA fighter?

I remember about 2 or 3 years ago I was in line for Boulder Dash when the most obnoxious GP have a nervous breakdown. So basically, this little kid wanted to ride (we were in the station) and his mom flipped out when she saw the train had lap bars instead of OTSRs, ranting that Boulder Dash was dangerous and that someone was gonna die. Then she dragged her kid out, the kid was screaming and crying the whole time, threatening to call management and file a complaint. As soon as she left, I started hysterically laughing.

Love this coaster. Especially cause it uses the terrain of the mountain. We also call this "the bug eater" lol

I wish there was some way to capture a POV video of this at night that really captures the experience. Day time rides just do not do this beauty justice.
I just moved to Connecticut and I have been subscribed for a while, I rode this ride with a few new friends on a day trip and thought it was great. I had no idea how well know it was until not one day later I saw this video.

Yesterday I took a field trip to Lake Compounce and rode this terrified. Trust me, it's a lot more bumpy and scary than it seems.
+TL;DR Man this ride is NOT smooth, anywhere you sit XD
Speaking generally, or compared to other wooden coasters? Some roughness is expected of a wooden coaster unless it's an RMC.
+King Hodor Well I've ridden woodies from the 20's and 40's that were much smoother. I honestly think that if GCI or Gravity Group could completely retrack the ride and replace the trains, It could be truly great, but that's pretty far off...
This ride is a back breaker. Especially on the return side.

I love this coaster so much. So much fun!
Rode this today for the first time (this was actually my first time riding a roller coaster in general) and i loved it!
I finally got to ride yesterday, I get the hype now, it’s a great ride because of the terrain, and the fact it just continues to pick up more and more speed. It was rough in certain spots (especially on the second row of each car)
2015-2016 was when I rode this. I still miss that triple up.
Going here next week and so excited to ride this

This is one coaster I have always wanted to ride. I have The Beast here in Cincinnati which is AWESOME, but Boulder Dash just seems a bit cooler with how close you are to the trees and its using the terrain to define the ride.
I also have Kings Island as my home park and yea the Beast is not the best wooden coaster out there. It is 36 yrs old and because of that it doesn't have the modern design with lots of ejector airtime and crazy banked turns. If u ever get a chance try to make it out to Holiday World the Voyage is amazing

Airtime>>>>>speed. I like the Beast I'm not trying to hate on it but it's not as good as a top notch GCI, CCI, or Gravity Group woodie

Seems smoother here. It has a few rough spots of late. I’m hoping they’ll re track the rough spots over the winter. There’s a triple chatter spot that’s very uncomfortable. The front seat is the smoothest.
his is a great unusual coaster and fantastic footage, but I enjoyed your videos more, when you included the lift hills.

I did! My boyfriend works at lake compounce and they had a ride night for employees and their friend they chose to bring.. It had no lights and you had no idea when a drop was coming. Also you couldn't see anything .. (Duh) haha but it was really cool

Philip Moore It's cool at night, but the scenery is prettier in the day...so I do both. (: The end of the afternoon is best because the tracks are heated up, especially if they have both trains running. They told me it has been clocked at 67 mph at the end of daytime. I think people may think the tracks look boring, but it's so much about speed and the turns. The most times I've been on it in one day is 8 times, but I could do 20. The back cars are the best if you like being flung around some. Hands and feet up in the air the whole time. I love it.
Philip Moore I think I misspoke on the speed and that 67 mph applies to the Sky Coaster - the thing you hang and swing from which has a stated speed of 65+. The Boulderdash was clocked at maybe 62 or 64. It has a stated top speed of 60+ since factors affect the speed. It's definitely over 60 at the end of the day if it's been running a lot and those other factors as the employee told me. I felt like it has been faster than other times too. I need to talk to a Roller Coaster Physicist. They kid around about bears being in the woods which is very possible because they're anywhere in the state.
I went once at Halloween time because they have a great haunted house, and I wore mittens on the coaster--it was chilly with the wind.
Philip Moore that’s the best time to go on it. Ride the front seat. You’ll love it. The back seat feels faster. It’s tougher back there.

Funny seeing all these people complain about Robb/TPR but what is the first site/channel they go to for info or videos? You guessed it....right here. Proof? There they are down below....complaining.
Robb you're not doing anything wrong. The videos are great and I like hearing your comments on the rides and parks. I wish I had known about TPR in college a few years back when friends and I went to a ton of parks. We just went and didn't bother looking up all this stuff or researching parks.
I do lurk at TPR now and its a great community. Now that my love for parks is coming back, I hope to meet some of the TPR people in the near future.
A lot of the hate towards Robb/TPR comes across as jealousy. They cant stand that the guy goes to parks all over the world having fun.

I don't know about before the first drop...but I'm pretty sure we broke the sound barrier a couple of times after that. All I remember is screaming like a little girl and wondering why I thought this was a good idea. I called in sick to work the next day to recover from this ride. Seriously. OK, I'm old (55) and was not prepared for it. LOL
URKillingme100 My friend wanted me to sit in the back seat with him, I did not want to at all. Then I was like, what is the worst that can happen? Right after the first drop my back compressed down. It hurt so bad for about a week and the next day I was so sore from all the jolting. Im a LOT younger than you xD and I was definitely not prepared for it.

I dot get how THIS is the best wooden rollercoaster
Ok, maybe not THE best, but it certainly is up there. It has strong intense laterals and some floater air in the first half, and great ejector air in the second half on the way back. All in a great setting, in the woods, sometimes near boulders, the ride's namesake. But I can see arguments for why Voyage, El Toro, T-Express, or Lightning Rod could top this. Voyage especially as it is a very long intense ride with all kinds of airtime.

Coaster Media i have yet to ride the beast, so call me terrible for judging a ride i havent ridden, but that ride doesnt do anything. there aren't any slams of laterals or airtime at all on the beast. also, having ridden Giant Dipper, I gotta say that ride was great.
I rode Beast, Voyage, Outlaw Run, and El Toro. the beast was rough. voyage felt like a longer beast with airtime hills that didn't impress. El Toro and outlaw run were amazing 10 out of 10 rides.
The Beast died when they replaced the old skid brakes with trim brakes. I've ridden before and after, and it's a completely different ride now. It earned it's name in the skid brake days, now it's more like a Golden Retriever than a beast.

Kennywood Parks owned this park, Dutch Wonderland, Kennywood (of course), and a couple other parks. Then they were bought by Palace Entertainment. So now they are all owned by the same company still, but Kennywood isn't the mother park anymore. Just a sister park.

This ride does not need the RMC treatment, aside from possible Topper Track replacement in the triple-up (not changing the layout one bit).
