I've done The Return in one sitting, and was on acid for most of it. Most exhausting time I've ever had just watching something in my life.

My hot take is I find James sympathetic. I don't hate the character.
Also, loving The Return is one depending on who you talk to. Both highly regarded and highly hated. I go back and forth between preferring it or FWWM out of all TP content.
