I am not a trucker, but I have read that Boar Wheels and Tires out of South Dakota are excellent with many of them going 100,000 miles before replacement. Just something that you may want to research before giving up on those 19.5" rims. They are usually only carried in places where trailers are sold. Look it up...……..
Keep in mind that your trailer tires have a speed rating, as well. If they are actual trailer tires, as opposed to light truck tires, the speed rating is usually around 65 mph. I'm not a hot shot driver, but been towing large, heavy trailers for many years and have had the best luck and mileage with G and H load tires on 17.5 wheels for trailers
Hey TP! Great videos... Check out Double Coin tires. N rated up to 87 mph and a weight rating almost 8k. Worked well for my fleet. 14ply and their cheap. Also my MPG went up 1 mpg that more than paid for the tire.
@@TowPiglet 30000 miles in 6 weeks now I'll let you know how many miles I ended up getting. I change my oil every 10000 and fuel filter and tire rotation every other oil change. I'm pulling from 8 to 14,000 pounds on average and since I swapped to the Michellins my fuel mileage went up about a mile and a half to two miles a gallon. And believe it or not, totally shocked me but I changed my air filter more often and that really really probably did more than anything for fuel mileage. Even though it doesn't look that dirty it's crazy I'll get a mile and a half per gallon more instantly when I change it. I'm at 195 thousand on my 6.7 right now. anyway to share a little information buddy. "keep it between the ditches"
I've had really good luck with the Mitchellins AT all season. They performed excellent in the snow with the tiny grooves that hold the snow gives them extra traction.
Have you thought about going with an all season? I was looking at 295/70/18 Michelin Defender LTX tires they have that high weight rating and look like they would get way better fuel mileage, just a thought. Oh and btw in case you didn’t know most all tires that are 275/70/18 are the same rating and 295/70/18 are the same rating regardless of brand from what I’ve seen.
I had often driven at the 75-80 mph range, know of one driver who ran many miles at those speeds when the odds was he couldn't get caught. Understand we didn't do those speeds pulling trailers - except in those states were its was legal... I guess he has over a million miles on 19.5 Michelin tires with few problems, besides a few nails....
Another option is semi tires. Wheel adapter for the 22.5 [8-10] I've thought about a super single on the rear (drw) idk if I would use supers on a swr With ride quality check out the gen y goos hitch
Your problem was you only spent a 1000 bucks on 19.5 tires double that and that what you need just for tires also should have just bought Michelin tire get 400k out of them isn’t unreasonable on semis don’t think 19.5 would be any different
Have you tried Bridgestone duravis M700 H ? Is super duty tires i use them on my 2500 silverado and i carry palettes of tile each weight min 3200 lb all year long they last me 70 thousand miles easy
How often are you rotating your tires? Also, have you tried different ply rated tires? I see you’re running E’s. Have you tried like a G? Just trying to gather as much info as I can.
Every 15-20k, it's a good idea but the problem is they get really expensive quick so the question is do I run 19.5's with a g rated tire thats almost double the price of my 18 inch all while sacrifice ride quality? My current truck tire is a Cooper discover AT3 297/70R18 and it's an E rated tire (4,080 lbs) with a speed rating of S (112 mph). You will never see that load rating for that speed on a 19.5. I still have the rims so I might just sell them when I can
@@TowPiglet How do you like the Coopers compared to the Toyos? I had Toyo open country A/Ts on my truck, that replaced the garbage transforce that came with the truck. They were great, but seemed a little soft, like they wouldn't last 60,000 miles. Great ride, traction and handling though. I sold the truck within 25,000 miles of having them put on, hence the question.
I have a 3500 Dodge 05 dullay 4 door 5.9 diesel and on my second set and I get 70k mi on them all factory are by name only the tires on a brand new truck are not the same tire that you buy at a tire shop. When going to a 19.5-inch wheel, to keep the same tire diameter with a 70 aspect ratio tire (and load range “E” or “F”), you would have to go to a 245mm tread width (down from the 275 inch tread you are using on your 18 inch wheels). Is that correct? Example: a Cooper Roadmaster RM253 245/70R-19.5 at 33.0 inches in diameter (which I think is close to the 33.2 or 33.3 that your 275/70/18R are sized [diameter] at). Firestone Trans Force LT 235 80r 17 and I get 60-70 grand miles on a 4x4 to me they we are great jus to rotate on every other oil changes they need to change. Back the 2 right to the front and next time change the two left to the left when they start to round off on front rotate to get them to square off and round then to round off and swap out the orher ones and you to 60 grand and swap out the other way and wapthem out again . Hope this helps
Honestly I never even go faster than 75 mph anyways. Kills my fuel mileage. I try to stay between 67 - 72 mph that seems to be my sweet spot. 19.5s last way longer than my 17s but I can see you burning through tires and diesel if you're out there hot rodding.
I asked on a forum how fast people go towing with 19.5 inch wheels and the consensus was 65. The issue is I have a SRW, non CDL pickup truck and with a low, light load I usually go the car speed limit which in some places is 75-80
Tow Piglet - every truck is different it all depends on the gear ratio. I have 4:10s and before I set my cruise control I look at my fuel economy gauge and set my speed when the meter is right in the middle were I'm not losing but gaining +1 or +2.
Consistently been 11-12 mpg, I could probably get better but I focus more on what percentage of the gross fuel is, and right now it's between 12% - 15% for example if I gross $10,000 in one month I should spend no more than $1,500 on diesel regardless of mpg or type of load or head wind etc. Hope that helps
how was the stability of the truck with 19.5" tires on the truck? When you loaded it with 9600 on the drives, which tires did you have and how did it handle?

Cooper at3 295/70/18 I got just over 60k out of them. Very pleased overall and I think the are similar price to michelin

You still have a lot to learn about how to run that truck and the speeds you run loaded.

More tire load then most will need as that vehicle has a GVWR of 22,000lbs.

I had the 18’s on there but I’m sure 19.5s would have done better. They feel more stable but ride really rough
9600 is a lot of weight on the drives. how did it handle?

I haul campers and can confirm about the transforces. Back tires wear out so quick. Bout 20k miles on them and they are half tread. Garbage
