yes I told my self I will quit... one year before and still every two weeks I have thoughts of it but meh roblox studio is roblox studio! the old cheezet !
The best thing about Roblox studio is that it’s very easy to get a game semi popular compared to getting a game semi popular on steam, it’s probably because of the amount of platforms Roblox is on but still🤷
Indeed the engine does feel quite outdated, but the compatibility is insane. You for real (not like in java) can write once and run everywhere. The performance is also really good. All Roblox clients are limited to I think about 4gb of ram. But even with 60000 objects in your game your max ram usage will be around 3gb.
Personaly i made game on unity since i'm 9 cause i always loved making video game, but just recently i'm trying to use roblox to make multiplayer game more easily, and even tho it a bit limited on the graphic side you're not really limited some people made 2D games, games looking like black ops, and there is a lot of way to go around things
Yes it's perfect for new developers but when you work with the big Engines such as Unity or Unreal and start using Roblox Studio afterwards, it feels like a reeeeal downgrade :c
the main reason i use roblox is because of its cframe system, if i were to develop a unity game then i wouldnt be able to because i dont wanna learn wtf a quaternion is or have to use trig to do the simplest things
I was able to learn Roblox coding in like a month, but Unity and C#? I just gave up with static classes or whatever those things were, and instead of increasing the velocity for player controlling like in Scratch or other engines, there's all that mathf.min or i thing that's what it is.
I get the feeling this video doesn't really back up its arguments or provide any examples for its claims. This guy says stuff like Roblox Studio is limited and inflexible, lacks tools, feels outdated, doesn't offer any options, and is too simplistic. But he doesn't really dive deeper into these points or give us anything to compare it against. The only things he mentions specifically are basic graphics and limited gameplay. Seriously? It seems like this guy isn't really familiar with Roblox at all and didn't bother to take the time to understand it properly.
nice video, but i feel like you just didnt really go into any depth, this feels more like the intro to a longer video, i was actually kind of confused when it ended. If i click on a video about why roblox studio sucks, i kind of expect the person making the video to give me actual examples or use cases in which the engine fails. Just saying "its more limited" without giving any examples isnt exactly interesting. You could summarize this entire video by saying "i dont like using roblox studio because i was forced to use it and think its limited" and you would literally not lose any information in the process. I dont mean to just dunk on you or whatever, the presentation and voice over is really good, especially for a small channel like this, but you really need to go into more detail. If possible, a follow up video about what specifically you didnt like would be nice, because this topic is actually really interesting, especially coming from an outsiders perspective who doesnt really know much about roblox studio. You just didnt really cover it in this video, despite the title.
Thanks for your Feedback! I'm sorry for the confusion, I'm kinda new to this TH-cam hobby and the things I'm saying is based of a Script that I write before Recording. I'm really bad at writing the Script and explain things at the moment. I'm planning to Improve my scripts in my Future videos. Thanks for your opinion Again!
I see where this is coming from, roblox isn't that limited and it sadly doesn't have shaders for more cartoony style but you can always make a stylized game in roblox it's not impossible there has been a lot of amazing games on roblox with amazing graphics the best one I would recommend is frontlines roblox is so beginner friendly and you do not need a whole studio to make your own game obviously same goes for every engine but I have tried using unreal Engine before with all of the cool stuff I've seen yet I was confused it's basically that I'm too comfortable using roblox studio over any game engine at the end of the day it's just my opinion but roblox studio is definitely the way to go if you want to make your own game with a bit of knowledge it's not the engine fault but more of the developers of these games fault for not showing the best of what the engine can do
Thanks for sharing your opinion! Like I said it's good for beginner developers just to learn the concept of Game Development. The Problem is, if you wanna work in the Gaming Industry, you can't find that much job opportunities with Roblox Studio. The tools, Addons, Extensions and the Engine itself was very limited, The Particle System and Post Processing part was not Enough and the Lua programming language was not fun because it was too basic for me. Also one of my favorite part about Game Development is, taking feedback from the players and spend time with them. Roblox player base is not the type of players I want to reach. It's purely preferential. I spent 4 months in it and I don't Enjoy using it a bit. Also I don't think that it's Developers fault to not show what the best engine can do. They have to update their games constantly, that's why it's not a smart choice to not make "Good Graphics". Same about the Mechanics, Roblox players are very young and you have to design your mechanics for your target age. I think Roblox Devs are doing their job pretty good! Keeping the Gameplay and Graphics simple for the kids and Following the trends :p
@@grey_dev i guess you can use your Lua knowledge for things like mods and stuff (unless it's a Unity game, which then mods would just use use dnSpy or sometimes developer provided mod APIs)

As a "somewhat" Game Developer, I would never choose Roblox at all. 1) I do not like Roblox, due to its playerbase and style 2) It just doesn't fits me. The Studio's UI is just not something I can understand. However, ever since the Unity crisis about "having to pay $0.20" or whatever if someone installs your game, I simply stoppen making games, as I cannot use Unreal, nad Godot is not that good for me, and as for Unity... I'm simply not sure, if it still exists or not. As far as I know, the CEO who decided to add this #### left, and the new CEO removed this "pay for any players installing your game lmao" thing was deleted, but I'm not really sure... So, I'd appriciate if you could answer me, as you use Unity as well.
Oh yeah they removed the freaking policy after getting so much hate! I still don't trust Unity tho, That's why I started to learn Godot and Unreal Engine! So far I really like Godot for making 2D games. Also don't let this things to discourage you, Game Engines are just tools that we use. The most important part is We "The Developers" and the Community! So keep up your work and as you improve you won't really care about the Engine itself :p
@@grey_dev ah, I see. Thank you for your response. I'll be looking forward to learn more about game development in the future. Altho, along with that, I also have to still perform my duties on some Minecraft servers as well. I doubt I'd love to make a game in Java...
@neonowlgery If you really wanna make games don't worry, even 1 hour a day is enough! I'm a collage Student who make games full time and create videos for youtube. Believe me, even I found the time, you can too! Just enjoy the process and don't force yourself too much :p
I'm a Roblox developer who has experimented with other engines like Unreal Engine. I'm drawn to Unreal because of its optimization and lighting capabilities, but I find the placement process cumbersome. Constantly adjusting the pivot and maneuvering objects with those tiny arrows gets frustrating. If there's a workaround that I'm missing, I'd love to know and perhaps give the engine another shot. However, if this is just the nature of Unreal, I may hold off until I delve deeper into game development studies. (btw I corrected my English with ChatGPT so maybe that's why it reads unnatural)
Also, I have a 'boss' on Roblox who is quite effective at reengaging people with their work and motivating them to utilize Roblox. I don't have that on Unreal.
That's alright! Also thanks for your comment! I recently started to learn Unreal and I'm having the same problems as you, but All the Engines have a learning curve and I'm sure you'll get used to it in time, Keep up your great work!
new developers run into a wall that seems insurmountable, but you learn that you just have to look for the rocks to climb, and take breaks from climbing when you need to. this video isn't really informed properly on how "real" roblox games are made. Games like Meep City (in citation side note i fucking hate meep city), Doors, Traitor Town, Trenches: Beta. These games (aside from Trenches) have custom server handling. Also know that many great games, with all the mechanics required to make a good game, even with MILLIONS of visits, are already dead. I suggest looking at Trenches: Beta, it'll change your perspective on the variety of design choices available, but keep in mind that many things are incredibly complex and require dozens of stitched together modules to function, even if they look basic.
they provides free game servers and easy multiplayer because roblox is multiplayer and monetization is perfect if you are also roblox player wwho wants to really buy stuff in other games and not spend money its perfect for me already as roblox unsuccesful developer
Bruh, ur problem is you wanted a game engine to make a game. Dude, no shit that Roblox studio is for Roblox. The only real complaint was that you have no control over the visual aesthetic, but that was it
As a Roblox Developer since 2021, I switch to Unity. Well, basically because I spent like 300 hours working on a game, I made around 40 updates and I was developing 6 hours a day, and everything I got is: 1.3k visits. Ngl, this is trash. And it's purely because of Roblox!! I saw a game 100% made with the toolbox, and the icon wasn't even a square!!! This game got 1M visits. Why? Well, because of the kids. The game was called "Siren Head" or something like this, and then, kids who wants to play siren head games go plays it. The other problem with Roblox is that you can promote your game by spending robux. And. Yeah. So trash. The ppl who do this litterally crush the little games. Btw, Roblox also promote the copy-pasted games who have exactly the same goal. The problem with Studio is its development limits, his TRASH players (200k+ active players on a skibidi toilet game =_=) and the promoting system. Btw, if you're a beginner in game development, I really recommand you to try it, because it teatchs you the basics of programming, modelisation etc... But one time, you probably will be bored about this and leave, like me. (Sorry if there is errors, I'm not english)
thats just how it is man. make a game and publish it on steam too and you wont get a 1000 people playing it. but hey, i guess steam takes a significantly less cut than roblox i guess so its a plus point
@@pulograine in the meantime, you can use godot or other game engines. game dev experience is transferrable, and learning a bit throughout these years will certainly help you in your unity journey. but that's up to you, and i totally understand if you dont have the time to do so right now

it hurts watching this as I am a roblox devvv, Roblox is very flexible actually, you just need to find how, you can look up showcases, they have their own style and does not follow the blocky design,, you can export from blender too to create way detailed things! Roblox is actually adding more and more things to advance the studio like others, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes ❤
Honestly Roblox is limited. Maybe in the future they’ll add some stuff. I severely doubt it tho. It doesn’t take much to appease little kids that play SpongeBob obbies and stuff.
I think you really just scratched the surface, roblox can be used to make other unqine games. You just have to distance yourself from some of the pre-provided features and build some of the mechanics from the base up. Luau Generally have other work arounds to make it self as viable as others languages. And if being restricted to playerbase... yes I told my self I will quit... one year before and still every two weeks I have thoughts of it but meh roblox studio is roblox studio! the old cheezet !
2 other things that are GREAT with roblox studio is that roblox gives you FREE datastores and server for your game, and its also unlimited.
I’m working on a roblox game that is basically the tutorial how-to build a roblox game map
But there’s something off
Well I mean you're not wrong
Roblox is great for starters devs
UI is pretty understandable,
Scripting uses simple lua language,
Etc
Yes it's perfect for new developers but when you work with the big Engines such as Unity or Unreal and start using Roblox Studio afterwards, it feels like a reeeeal downgrade :c
@@grey_dev
If you already good with unity/unreal there is no reason for you to switch to a game engine like Roblox Studio. Anyways great vid
@@GamingScripter Thanks! Btw I had no intention to switch, I just love to try different Engines and talk about my experiences :P
Long story short; Thanks!
the main reason i use roblox is because of its cframe system, if i were to develop a unity game then i wouldnt be able to because i dont wanna learn wtf a quaternion is or have to use trig to do the simplest things
(trust me, as a roblox developer, ive tried unity)
I was able to learn Roblox coding in like a month, but Unity and C#? I just gave up with static classes or whatever those things were, and instead of increasing the velocity for player controlling like in Scratch or other engines, there's all that mathf.min or i thing that's what it is.
I am now going to try roblox studio
i love your channel very underrated
Thank you so much! I'm doing my best to improve!
I want to be a game dev and earn some cash so I feel like roblox studio was going to be easy I don't even know how to make a script to cut down a tree
There is code assist already bro, you can specify whatever you want the assistant to script and it will script it for you.

I am the 420th sub, 170th comment and this video is good
You are a legend and Thank you!
Roblox dev here
nice video, but i feel like you just didnt really go into any depth, this feels more like the intro to a longer video, i was actually kind of confused when it ended.
As an intermediate roblox studio scripter, i hate it too.
I didn't know you were alive Smol kitty cat :3
@@grey_devlua is a high level programming language u can make whatever u can make on c++ on it you just have a gigantic skill issue i guess and u are not used to how lua process things
Also u can make insane particles on roblox studio idk what ur talking about
well i wouldnt call it limited look at rell games as a example this is like a game in unity but with a block avatar and some games arent even near blocks
ı was goıng to say something bad
but you are positive person
Thanks for not being rude! I appreciate it!
I wouldnt call Roblox Studio Limited or locked into a style, i think thats just you buddy, and, you can also import models into it too so i dont understand what our on about -_-, i agree with the other stuff tho so good
My bad! I should've not call it limited, I got so frustrated while using it, That's why this video was kinda Personal rather than a level headed review :(
As a "somewhat" Game Developer, I would never choose Roblox at all.
1) I do not like Roblox, due to its playerbase and style
2) It just doesn't fits me.
You forgot the part where you only make 23% of the profits from your own game
I see a new profile picture. Trying new art styles? :D
Oh yeah, I love to make little changes now and then :p
That's very nice! I'm not an Unreal user but I hope they add that to Unreal as well ^-^
new developers run into a wall that seems insurmountable, but you learn that you just have to look for the rocks to climb, and take breaks from climbing when you need to. this video isn't really informed properly on how "real" roblox games are made.

Roblox is made For kids so no shit would roblox studio have a simple coding language
Well that's your fault for not making a game people want to play plus not learning marketing
thats just how it is man. make a game and publish it on steam too and you wont get a 1000 people playing it. but hey, i guess steam takes a significantly less cut than roblox i guess so its a plus point
@@AmmTheEminent Yea but a Steam license is around 200$, right? Anyways, my computer is too slow to run Unity! I will try in few years
@@pulograine in the meantime, you can use godot or other game engines. game dev experience is transferrable, and learning a bit throughout these years will certainly help you in your unity journey. but that's up to you, and i totally understand if you dont have the time to do so right now
@@AmmTheEminent Yeah I heared about Godot, it can be a good choice to make a transition between Studio and Unity. By the way, thanks for answering me and enlightened me on this choice!
imma be honest grey unity actually made me run to godot. unity just keeps getting worse and i really like the open-source nature of godot. i know this is completely unrelated lol
I wouldn't go calling Roblox a game engine. Especially a limited game engine.
it hurts watching this as I am a roblox devvv, Roblox is very flexible actually, you just need to find how, you can look up showcases, they have their own style and does not follow the blocky design,, you can export from blender too to create way detailed things! Roblox is actually adding more and more things to advance the studio like others, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes ❤
hmm yes plugins do not exist

I think you really just scratched the surface, roblox can be used to make other unqine games.
You just have to distance yourself from some of the pre-provided features and build some of the mechanics from the base up. Luau Generally have other work arounds to make it self as viable as others languages.
And if being restricted to playerbase... Yea I can't help you with that, just learn some out engines to be more independent.
