    1. Roblox has plugins users can make that make the engine feel better and stuff and some are very useful
    2. Roblox isn't limited to that style only. You can make a 2d game with using robloxs GUI, also edit avatars and make them whatever you want and change their anamitaons and stuff and also you can mess with the lighting service there are games that don't look like roblox like Robot 64 and many others that don't look like roblox
    3. Also roblox has epic system with many services being done for you you don't have to pay for servers you don't have to set up some monetization stuff for like hours data stores all that for free

I don't know about your own experiences but it was very limited for me. I think the only part that not limited is, you can import Custom models. Also You are right about the style part! You can do any style you want depending on your Model and Texture Style but the problem is, the player base doesn't want different styles. That's why most of Popular games look alike and make differences with their mechanics instead of their styles. So there is no point of making a game with a different style because it usually won't make profit in the Roblox market.

@@grey-devsnot really! the roblox player base is made up of millions so over all The bad part about roblox studio is that it's 10 years behind every other engine as physics and graphics! Over all I made a game there and it got over 10k visits I still develop it for fun and it's really good! Over all Roblox might be more useful if you want to make a community since earning money is the hard part! (Still really possible but it needs a lot of effort to reach the top) about the game style really not true. Just the whole platform is separated by communities but for example many players get exhausted at other games so they try to find new once which are similar to the one they got off! This literally means that you can easily grow a game! And also you can export your game to other game engines but the trick is you have to do it model by model or if you want it fast group the whole map! Sadly the scripts won't be able to make it though :C

The thing with not having alot of control over the visual aspect of a game is a common problem and I wish Roblox gave us more control,
Wanna create a cartoony style game with every object having an outline?
You can use highlights but they are limited to a specific number of highlights meaning you have to disable highlights for parts when they aren't on screen.
Wanna make pixelated depth of field?
    Not possible
Also I have a problem with this video and that is that there's not alot of criticism, and I don't really agree with your points.
    *Can't export*
I personally don't really care anymore that you can't export. However Roblox already has a huge audience.
    *Kids Demographics*
While Roblox does have a mostly kids audience, they have been seeking a older audience since it started getting older, Games like deepwoken and micup typically have a teenage/adult audience. While other games like Doors have a mostly mixed audience.

Even though you dont have 100% control over the engine, it is more ordered then unity, it feels lighweight, lua is good, and comunity is really easy to control. I feel like godot in some parts might be better but the fact that i launch and update 3d multiplayer projects for free to a easy to manipulate comunity is really good.

Software engineer with a bit of experience in gamedev here.
Your disapointment seems to come from a misunderstanding or incorrect expectations on your part. You came to Roblox studio looking for a game engine. First mistake.
You cannot compare Roblox Studio to any other game engine. Compare it to Fortnite and Verse if you want, or upcoming game Hytale, even Core is a good exemple, but not other game engines, that doesn't make sense. What you gain from Roblox Studio and all similar platforms are : ease of use, out of the box functionnalities and HUGE player base !
What you get from game engines is more flexibility and possibilities.
Stating that you "can't even export from Roblox" really tells me you didn't try it out for the right reasons.

You and the uploader are just wrong. You're not limited in the style of games you can make on Roblox. It fully supports making 2D, 3D games with whatever assets you wanna upload. Roblox Studio isn't like Core, where you can't upload assets to craft whatever experience you want. Lua is not a "limited" programming language. It's a multi-paradigm turing complete language in the same category as languages like Python & Javascript. Within that family, it's like C, in the sense that it doesn't come with a bunch of library bloat out of the box, forcing you to write more abstractions from scratch. The issue isn't trying to compare Roblox Studio with other engines, the issue is he did a terrible job at it.

    • @ashlad1576

@@TCSyndicate "You're not limited in the style of games you can make on Roblox" Couldn't find where I said that. You didn't mention any point I made. You just threw new arguments (which for many I agree with to be honest) and stated that I was wrong. Without explaining how or why. Without even giving any counter arguments. Poor communication on you part here. Yes Roblox support 2d and 3d really well, online is available out of the box (datastorage and RCP communication) which makes it even more capable, yes Lua is not limited (no one even mentionned Lua here) and I quite agree with the comparison with C. Again, all you say is true, but I don't see how it connects to anything I said. And I'll say it again, yes comparing Roblox Studio and a GameEngine is an issue. It's like comparing a pre-built gaming console to a custom-built gaming PC and looking which one gives you more hardware customization freedom. It's an unfair comparison as one is not meant to provide that to begin with.

For those watching, the video is just wrong. Roblox is not limited in the way the tuber makes it out to be. You can make games in whatever style you want Lua is not a "limited", or "inflexible" programming language. It's a turing complete multiparadigm lang, in the same category as other dynamically typed, garbage collected languages, such as Python and Javascript. Within that family, it's analogous to C, in the sense that it doesn't come with bloated libraries and data structures out of the box, forcing you to implement. It's also commonly used in game development because of it's speed and relatively low memory footprint. You can literally write a C# interpreter in lua, and run it on Roblox if you want.

This guy says stuff like Roblox Studio is limited and inflexible, lacks tools, feels outdated, doesn't offer any options, and is too simplistic. But he doesn't really dive deeper into these points or give us anything to compare it against. The only things he mentions specifically are basic graphics and limited gameplay. Seriously? Indeed the engine does feel quite outdated, but the compatibility is insane. You for real (not like in java) can write once and run everywhere. The performance is also really good. All Roblox clients are limited to I think about 4gb of ram. But even with 60000 objects in your game your max ram usage will be around 3gb.

You're being a little harsh towards Roblox. It's not intended to be exported, as it's built to run on the Roblox game servers. It's not "limited" to Roblox graphics, you just have to get creative. You have to write your own 2D micro-engine, or change the controls to only move in certain directions. The amount of services that LuaU gives you is also quite incredible, as you can tween items without much knowledge, animate characters within a few minutes of watching TH-cam videos, and though I agree that certain parts are limited, there are still so many possibilities. If you want to get out of the "I don't know what I'm doing in here" stage of Roblox studio, feel free to contact us. I'd love to talk more about the engine with you :)

I see where this is coming from, roblox isn't that limited and it sadly doesn't have shaders for more cartoony style but you can always make a stylized game in roblox it's not impossible there has been a lot of amazing games on roblox with amazing graphics the best one I would recommend is frontlines roblox is so beginner friendly and you do not need a whole studio to make your own game obviously same goes for every engine but I have tried using unreal Engine before with all of the cool stuff I've seen yet I was confused it's basically that I'm too comfortable using roblox studio over any game engine at the end of the day it's just my opinion but roblox studio is definitely the way to go if you want to make your own game with a bit of knowledge it's not the engine fault but more of the developers of these games fault for not showing the best of what the engine can do

    • @grey-devs
      @grey-devs  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for sharing your opinion! Like I said it's good for beginner developers just to learn the concept of Game Development. The Problem is, if you wanna work in the Gaming Industry, you can't find that much job opportunities with Roblox Studio. The tools, Addons, Extensions and the Engine itself was very limited, The Particle System and Post Processing part was not Enough and the Lua programming language was not fun because it was too basic for me. Also one of my favorite part about Game Development is, taking feedback from the players and spend time with them. Roblox player base is not the type of players I want to reach. It's purely preferential. I spent 4 months in it and I don't Enjoy using it a bit. Also I don't think that it's Developers fault to not show what the best engine can do. They have to update their games constantly, that's why it's not a smart choice to not make "Good Graphics". Same about the Mechanics, Roblox players are very young and you have to design your mechanics for your target age. I think Roblox Devs are doing their job pretty good! Keeping the Gameplay and Graphics simple for the kids and Following the trends :p

If i click on a video about why roblox studio sucks, i kind of expect the person making the video to give me actual examples or use cases in which the engine fails. Just saying "its more limited" without giving any examples isnt exactly interesting. You could summarize this entire video by saying "i dont like using roblox studio because i was forced to use it and think its limited" and you would literally not lose any information in the process. I dont mean to just dunk on you or whatever, the presentation and voice over is really good, especially for a small channel like this, but you really need to go into more detail. If possible, a follow up video about what specifically you didnt like would be nice, because this topic is actually really interesting, especially coming from an outsiders perspective who doesnt really know much about roblox studio. As a Roblox Developer since 2021, I switch to Unity. Well, basically because I spent like 300 hours working on a game, I made around 40 updates and I was developing 6 hours a day, and everything I got is: 1.3k visits. Ngl, this is trash. And it's purely because of Roblox!!
I saw a game 100% made with the toolbox, and the icon wasn't even a square!!! This game got 1M visits. Why? Well, because of the kids. The game was called "Siren Head" or something like this, and then, kids who wants to play siren head games go plays it.
The other problem with Roblox is that you can promote your game by spending robux. And. Yeah. So trash. The ppl who do this litterally crush the little games. Btw, Roblox also promote the copy-pasted games who have exactly the same goal.
The problem with Studio is its development limits, his TRASH players (200k+ active players on a skibidi toilet game =_=) and the promoting system.
Btw, if you're a beginner in game development, I really recommand you to try it, because it teatchs you the basics of programming, modelisation etc...
But one time, you probably will be bored about this and leave, like me.

it hurts watching this as I am a roblox devvv, Roblox is very flexible actually, you just need to find how, you can look up showcases, they have their own style and does not follow the blocky design,, you can export from blender too to create way detailed things! Roblox is actually adding more and more things to advance the studio like others, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes ❤

As a "somewhat" Game Developer, I would never choose Roblox at all.
    1) I do not like Roblox, due to its playerbase and style
    2) It just doesn't fits me. The Studio's UI is just not something I can understand.
However, ever since the Unity crisis about "having to pay $0.20" or whatever if someone installs your game, I simply stoppen making games, as I cannot use Unreal, nad Godot is not that good for me, and as for Unity... I'm simply not sure, if it still exists or not. As far as I know, the CEO who decided to add this #### left, and the new CEO removed this "pay for any players installing your game lmao" thing was deleted, but I'm not really sure... So, I'd appriciate if you could answer me, as you use Unity as well.

    • @grey-devs

Oh yeah they removed the freaking policy after getting so much hate! I still don't trust Unity tho, That's why I started to learn Godot and Unreal Engine! So far I really like Godot for making 2D games. Also don't let this things to discourage you, Game Engines are just tools that we use. The most important part is We "The Developers" and the Community! So keep up your work and as you improve you won't really care about the Engine itself :p

new developers run into a wall that seems insurmountable, but you learn that you just have to look for the rocks to climb, and take breaks from climbing when you need to. this video isn't really informed properly on how "real" roblox games are made. Games like Meep City (in citation side note i fucking hate meep city), Doors, Traitor Town, Trenches: Beta. These games (aside from Trenches) have custom server handling. Also know that many great games, with all the mechanics required to make a good game, even with MILLIONS of visits, are already dead.
I suggest looking at Trenches: Beta, it'll change your perspective on the variety of design choices available, but keep in mind that many things are incredibly complex and require dozens of stitched together modules to function, even if they look basic.

I'm a Roblox developer who has experimented with other engines like Unreal Engine. I'm drawn to Unreal because of its optimization and lighting capabilities, but I find the placement process cumbersome. Constantly adjusting the pivot and maneuvering objects with those tiny arrows gets frustrating. If there's a workaround that I'm missing, I'd love to know and perhaps give the engine another shot. However, if this is just the nature of Unreal, I may hold off until I delve deeper into game development studies. (btw I corrected my English with ChatGPT so maybe that's why it reads unnatural)

  • @Testbot379

I think you really just scratched the surface, roblox can be used to make other unqine games.
You just have to distance yourself from some of the pre-provided features and build some of the mechanics from the base up. Luau Generally have other work arounds to make it self as viable as others languages.
And if being restricted to playerbase... Yea I can't help you with that, just learn some out engines to be more independent.
