You should try a complete fresh re-install of windows on it, with fresh drivers and see if that makes it work better, that operating system could well be the issue.
Seems the biggest problem with this thing is the lack of dual channel ram, and the fact the CPU isn’t boosting above 2.7ghz. My ZBook 15 with an I I7-4710hq, and a GTX 1650 performance significantly better. I got it for $444 including all the parts and upgrades.
the P100 series mining/industrial GPUS are only x1 PCIE 1.1. I am one of the contributors who hacked the drivers together. We have to use an exploit and firmware spoof come back as GTX cards. The PCIE bandwidth is a massive bottleneck for gaming, but I repurpose them for AI and NVEC.
These laptops are around for year, year and a half, and are well known in Russia, Brazil, and some other places. General consensus is that N95 is good enough for office work, and some light web browsing, but not for gaming. Some not so intensive games like World of Tanks, LoL, Dota 2 etc ... do run fine. Some other games do not recognize this 1060, p106 or whatever is, so you have to select it manually in control panel. Reinstalling Windows is not recommended, especially if you do not have drivers stashed somewhere. Generally not a good product, it is a shame they did not put some more capable CPU in it, because for little more money it would be very interesting in some markets.
First thing I would've done is nuke that OS as there seems to be some strange performance behaviour from the software, as both the CPU N95 and the NVIDIA chip are quite capable. The N95 can keep up with a 10th generation Intel Core i3 and while the NVIDIA chip is a cut down 1060 MXM module, it should be similar to 1050Ti performance. Also 1/1 banks for memory makes totally perfect sense, it's single channel memory. I think you should have played around with the software more, put a proper NVMe SSD in it with DRAM, re-installed Windows and sourced your own drivers before testing. This video was not well executed.
Cannot nuke OS because this card requires some custom drivers. In fact, byers in Russia have noted that after OS reinstall GPU does not work anymore. As for CPU, it is capable for basic office and surfing, but generally not for gaming in PS4 era (2013-2020) .
i think that cpu is close to the one I'm using on the laptop I'm watching on rn my mother gave me for free when she upgraded, gunna be interesting to see how that copes with a tesla gpu attached, from my experience that cpu struggles with basic tasks, but it's a cool set up, even if just purely for the novelty/weird value
Agreed, software is definitely causing problems. This hardware should not be struggling. But they did not test everything properly in the video. ToastyBros special right there.
That's the biggest problem with "Gaming Laptops"... My gf had a laptop with a i7 6th gen + gtx 1060 and some games just refuses to use the proper GPU and always defaults to the iGPU
One thing you guys mispoke on was the avalability of the video card. Yes you can buy this as a PCIE card but they only sell it in China and its still pretty rare.
Not that it really matters but you could probably connect the usb c to a monitor or docking port as kind of a mux switch. That might force it to use the '"1060"
so i did a bit of poking around google. I think a few reasons why this P106M was doing so badly is because due to its use case (being in a tesla) it has no turbo boost so its locked at 1200mhz, a locked VBIOS and again since it was in a tesla it probably doesn't use standard drivers but i could be wrong on that. People compared its performance to a 970m or 980m.
That "1060 4GB" is garbage squared. I briefly had a mini PC with one of these in (it did have a decent CPU, though). The problem is the chineseum driver. When I tried installing the one they sent me, it triggered windows defender as having a trojan. be very careful with that thing. I sent the Mini PC back right after that
Hey Guys, that motherboard looks a lot like some of the motherboards that I deal with in Chromebooks. I work as a technology technician in an orginization has sas several hundred Lenovo Chromebooks.
Reminds me Asus Eee 1215N, which had Intel Atom D525 and very unusual Nvidia ION2 Optimus, which sometimes works, sometimes not, sometimes you needed to change used GPU to high performance in drivers for exact executable.. To use HW acceleration for media (codecs) i have ended up with some special CUDA decoder, because it never used Nvidia..
Basically a Modern Celeron cpu with igpu paired up with GTX 1060 4gb Tesla Graphics Card is on another level, not compatible and a lot of stuttering and FPS makes this a useless budget gaming laptop. It only uses a single slot since this laptop has no space for them. Even a real GTX 1060 gaming laptop would destroy it. even a real old 4th generation intel gaming laptop would even destroy it since I used to have one. This one was probably not ment for gaming or something.
This laptop is just for checking your email and reading something on the internet. With these parameters it will work fine up to windows 7. The internet is full of such laptops after the support for older versions of windows stopped. Test with a Windows 7 and if you manage to run a game nowadays like CS you will see that it will work quite well. But for these processors and parameters everything ends with windows 8.1. Even 8.1 would be a lot. 😉 Also check if there is another slot for RAM. If another RAM stick is added and there is a slot for NVME, which is at least a well-known brand, this "laptop" might be good for something.😂
I was the guy in chat with the firewall 🤣it is one of thoe generic-y 4 LAN port boxes, in my case running pfSense. Runs that great, but that doesn't ask for much, either 🤣
LOL, for 300 bucks You can buy a nice 3070~3080TI And just drop it into some old case, that would blow that thing out of the water. You'd have to be nucking futs to buy that travisty.
yeah my mini pc using n100 with UHD IGP at 1080p low playing fortnite i got much better performance yeah i think there is some bios setting needed to be changed
At that price i be getting a steam deck... But still cool doh for a laptop that can game but performance i guess is about a asus Rog ally z1 or z1 extrême type. Yeah fun but to expense... I can steam deck asus ally z1 for that price on a good day
Theres got to be something wrong with this because that cpus not even that bad. i have a i5 2400 ssd 660 ti system thats fine for normal things and light games and spec wise that system is better in every way, yet somehow unusable

My experience with low end hardware in Windows is that if task manager is hanging like that it's usually bad drivers or malware installed. I would format and do a clean install of Windows 10...#FLUSHIT

i have a 1080 8gb with i7 6700 lol
I have the nvidia 3250X3D and ryzen rtx 6070 gpu. Solid 2 fps on any game highest settings
Still using my 8700k with my 2080ti. Works well enough, not like can afford anything new

Most laptop bios barely have any customizable options

So it's a Celeron with a 1060 the world is desperate
Sounds like a good candidate for linux

I'm curious as to whether this would work better if you reinstalled Windows. Still, jank is gonna jank.
That single ram stick with 2667 mhz is bottlenecking the shit out of gpu and cpu😂
What if we change the ram with 3200 or 4800 mhz

@paalpet single channel ram thats locked to 2133ish mhz. Lets also not talk about the maximum of 8 pcie lanes, 4 of which are taken up by the ssd
Why do you guys struggle so much with PC troubleshooting?
You would think they would at least pair that GPU with at least an N100. N100 CPU is on par with a 2nd gen i5.
Something else is wrong here, the N95 is also not far off a 2nd gen i5 and should not hold back a laptop 1060 this badly.
