Autograph is an extremely novice film. There was lots of loopholes in the screenplay and in fact it was very bad. Satyajit Ray did two prominent conscience films. One was Nayak and second one Simabaddha. In a conscience movie needs to have the character completely isolated. Significantly Sharmila Tagore played conscience in both the films. The conscience character will have to be isolated and critical. Nayak excelled exceedingly well because of isolation. As there was a relationship shown in Somabaddha the effect was bit diluted but there also the message was loud and clear. In Nayak the character was not shown bigger than industry. In Autograph Tue character himself established himself higher than industry. "I am industry" cannot have consciousness as he himself cannot come down and cannot get back to reality and honesty. Also the mirror character also directly involved with a character so the character cannot be a mirror. So the basis of the script is extremely weak. And it was evident in the scence after scence where nothing become believable because nothing makes sense. Autograph was an extremely bad bad movie. May be Baba keno chakar is better film as it at least did not have any pretension. Sorry Srijit does not understand cinema. He does not have passion. If he would have passion he would found out what web series to watch on his own doing research. If you watch Anurag Kashyap he is an encyclopedia of cinema. He knows because he researches cinema and he researches cinema because he has passion. Srijit has no passion and only believes in commercial aspect. Cinema is a commercial medium and there is no issue if director think about box office but there is every problem when he pretends he wants to tell story. That is double facing and the reason why Bengali cinema will not exist in 2030.
In every interview I heard Srijit claims he does not want to repeat himself. His making is extremely predictable. Same top shot same rotating camera same moving camera from one protagonist to another and I can predict given a scence what would be his take. That is called repeat on cinema. Forget about Satyajit Ray Mrinal Sen or some other foreign film makers even in Tarun Majumdar never repeated himself in his film making. Take three films of Tarun Majumdar Nimantran Palatak and Phuleswari all made on stories on the heart of Bengal village which are equally relevant and heart warming for me after 50 years and significantly the treatment shot compositions are completely unique in all three movies but the melochonic tone of all three movies are same. The same person had made Dadar Kirti Sriman Pritbviraj Bhalobasa Bhalobasa Balika Bodhu and same person again made Sansar Simante and Ganadevta. He did not come and openly flaunted himself anywhere. Everything what Srijit makes is just the exact repeat in making. And my humble request let Feluda kakababu rest in peace. There creators are not here. Let us show some respect to them and keep them in our memory and move on. Let us create some characters who belongs to 2020. How long this stupidity of milking our culture will continue?
