    It's amazing how much stuff is still out there waiting to be discovered, even after 150+ years!

    Nice read of your environment. A few years ago I spent 2-3hrs walking over an old Japanese Internment Camp. After viewing an aerial photo of the camp layout from 1943 in local museum, I pulled several era coins (one Japanese) some buttons, and a pair of wire rim glasses. It is amazing how a little research and skill can turn a day of finding trash into day of treasure. Ah, who am I kidding, I get giddy detecting trash as well ;-)

    Beau, the pin you found with the wire on it is used by trappers to weigh down the animal so it will either drown or not go far from shore. You're lucky you didn't stick your hand into a trap. When you see an area that has been disturbed before you, make sure you either stab your pick or a stick into the disturbed area. That way you set the trap off on them and not on your hand or foot. Stay safe and keep the videos coming.

    the big pin with the wire could be a grounding rod, they may have had electricity in the area, maybe lights or lamps at the bridge to help with navigation across

    Not sure If you see comments from videos this far back but WOW, those finds are so cool. Wonder if you ever close your eyes in places like this and wonder about all that was going on there when these things were lost. The history just sends chills up my spine. Thank you for taking us on another great adventure. Be safe.

    I believe the bridge you're at was blown up. Or at least it was burnt. If you look at the brick you were holding, one side of it was black. I have seen that kind of blackening in stone before. When you have wood that's burning lying on top of the stone it can leave the scorch marks . The bridge may have been hit with cannon firepower and slowly collapse and burn. Would also explain finding the sword and other items there too.

    Do you think the huge iron piece was actually a cannon barrel?? Maybe? Not sure where you're at, but if there was a bridge built & if they were moving a cannon across it & got shot down then maybe they couldn't get it back out of the river.. ?? Great stuff tho :)

    Curious, when you reseach and find targets from that research, do you classify them together by possible regiment? I ask as your videos have me thinking about traveling to south and I would love to find and donate to a Minnesota museum or University collection, but only if I was following a Minnesota regiment trail and was likely on their cast offs. See, you are the "Butterfly "Effect" of Civil War history....lol, now known as the "Chigg Effect"

  • @jimnorthland2903
    @jimnorthland2903 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I know little about which sword would go with which scabbard but I do know about rivers. The basket handle of the sword would easily be snagged on a piece of brush or tree limb being swept downstream in a flood. The scabbard being flat would tend to just sit where it was dropped. So if they are a set, it's not surprising to find the sword downstream of the scabbard.

    If you ever to run up to central Illinois, there are plenty of miles of abandoned railways. The old telegraph boxes line many of these old railways, usually you can find insulators still in many of those too.

    Wow exciting stuff!
    I'm always surprised at how relatively shallow a lot of your Civil War era finds are.
    I think my frame of reference might be a little skewed because where I live there's a considerable snow pack in the mountains that melts every spring and summer causing all the rivers and creeks to become several feet deeper and fast moving. Everything gets washed away and buried in just one year.
    Thanks for posting this. I really enjoy your videos. Thumbs up.

    The sword and handle were found , where he dieded . The scabbard where his body perhaps hung on a tree limb and broke free of the floating remains . Or where the remains finalized .
    Could be more. Maybe “A GOLD RING , OR A BELT BUCKLE ..”
    😁

    • @RadicatTat
      @RadicatTat 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I still lived in GA, I'd study Sherman's march route. Old sites that were destroyed or burned start on the outskirts of Atlanta and go to the east coast. I've found some good stuff in the Atlanta area myself on old home sites. It was common for pre-civil war mansions to be built on hilltops to avoid the heat of summer. You have to do a lot of walking in the woods to find trails and foundations. Best to talk to the land owners first. Finding them is the biggest problem. Many modern homes are now on old sites. Maybe we will read about that pot of gold coins that you find.
