At risk of sounding like a complete newb, I just purchased my second set of these shocks and two of them are pretty stiff when moving the piston inside of the bore. I built them exactly like you did, lube and all, but for some reason they are considerable stiffer than the other two. So stiff in fact, the soft or medium springs can not fully extend the piston. I checked the piston for flashing, burs and contamination but cannot see anything that would cause this issue. I'm gonna run them for a while and see if they wear in. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. Thank you.
I understand what you mean. I have had good luck just oiling them up well, and slowly wiggling the shaft through. Your milage may vary. Good information to have up here though. You can also fit all the seal parts onto the shaft first and install the c-clip with all that installed on the shaft also.
@@DLUX_FAB_RC Yep thats how I do it, putting the shaft first then all the stuff + the c-clip. I also dont install the small washer that goes first for the simple reason that with it my c-clip cant find its way to the locking place.
I've noticed a very tight shaft movement as well i bet leaving the first washer out maybe the key as its preloading the x rings too much but I'm not starting over now lol@@ChindrisHoratiu
if i had the 80mm shock and wanted to change up the silver stock shaft to the gold titanium nitrade coated ones,,but i want the nothing to change from the stock 80mm set up is the part that i need ''Traxxas TRA1664T''?..i just dont wanna order longer ones or the wrong ones thanks man...
Sorry, but I absolutely cringed watching you use locking plyers for building the shocks. I realize you know how tight to set them, but the average joe builder could easy overdue it.
sorry, but he is using just regular plier. and yes using common plier for build anything part from rc car really that scary. locking plier is different. i am that regular joe and using locking plier with some thick protective rubber on it and never have a problem when rebuilding rc car shock. im using bicycle inner tire to protect the shaft when the jaw hardly grip it. bicycle inner tire is almost free. just using once rubber per locking movement and then throw it away. go try it and you will not believe how safely it was.
I got some shocks about 2 years ago and they came with a bunch of black rubber rings...is that for preloading the springs?

After you put the safty ring you just cant " force " the piston shaft in. I always clip the x rings....
