It allowed SEGA to pull off some much more classical tunes like the Icecap Zone from the sonic games. In contrast, Nintendo's music was more focused on being catchy since it lacked the omph. This is why most gamers who've come across the main theme tune for Zelda and Mario can quote the tune as more of a reflex. Sega created music - Nintendo created nostalgia. I miss the days when little details like that would be the justification of one person owning one version over the other. The consoles these days practically have nothing I would say is better or worst then the other.
Um... The Super Famicom/Super Nintendo had a Sony sound-chip and it could produce WAY better sounds than the Mega-Drive/Genesis 32x DOOM and Super Famicom/Super Nintendo DOOM, hear the difference?
