- Corfu dancers from the Cultural Association of Sinies rehearse their version of a dance to the theme from Zorba the Greek. Date: June 24th, 2012 Later that day they set off in a bus to go to San Sebastian in northern Spain to take part in a dance festival.
The dance teacher is the distinguished dancer Vlahos Ioannis. The music was written by one of Greece's most famous living composers, Mikis Theodorakis. It is also known as the Syrtaki dance and was inspired from traditional Cretan dances.

The creator of this music, Mikis Theodorakis, died today, Sept 2, 2021, in Athens, aged 96. Thank you for what you gave to humanity by your music and your spirit.

Just seeing this 6 days to Thanksgiving 2019...I'm not Greek, but I plan to learn these steps. My mom used to play the sound track to the movie when I was a kid in the 70's. I'm feeling thankful she introduced us to many cultures even though we were Mexican. Bravo!

Προσπαθούσα να βρω την κλασική χορογραφία για συρτάκι και όλα τα δημοφιλή βίντεο δείχνουν μοντέρνες εκδοχές, σαν μπαλέτο. Αυτή είναι που γνωρίζουμε φυσικά, που μαθαίνουν στα χορευτικά για παραδοσιακούς χορούς. Δεν είναι τυχαίο οτι πρόκειται για συμμετοχή σε φολκλορικό φεστιβάλ, τα οποία επίσης γνωρίζουμε απο τα χορευτικά! Συγχαρητήρια στο δάσκαλο και στα όμορφα παιδιά!

I love this! Reminds me of a time at a training centre I worked at in Germany. We had a ‘disco’ night every Thursday and one time to Greek friends attended a course with me .... they did this dance and the international crowd wen crazy ... they did 2 encores! Such happy memories... thank you 🙏 for sharing!
