Just noticed your latest, I like the idea, I made something along the same lines using an IBC cube and a firefighting pump. I found that clogging of the spray nozzles to be an insumountable problem and so did away with them altogether and just belt it on straight onto the test beds. Not into broad acre but experimental test beds and water usage. We live in a forest and it's not a matter of if but when we get a bush fire come through. I am seriously looking at putting a 50mm water irrigation sprinkler on the roof and using a firefighter pump to run it for the duration of the fire. I've got an underground storage next to the house and a 50mm unit would need 30,000l per hour but will punch out a radius of 56meters from the sprinkler................to the point at last, this sprinkler can be adjusted to various degrees of spray from 360 to right down. It appears to me that if you got one of a suitable size maybe 19mm and set it to 180 and mount this staight on top of the hose reels this would do the job with no clogging. Go staight from the pump to the sprinkler, keep the hose reels for firefighting. I dont know what distance the 19mm sprinkler will throw but it would have to be a lot more than a boom spray.

Hey Terry, I like the idea of the 19mm. The filtration from the comfrey tea to the water spray unit will be the issue. I'll have to think about this will work and keep those sprinkler heads free of debris. Thanks again for your comments much appreciated.

I would make fold down booms on either side . You could leave the reels there - have a permanent boom across the back , but mount fold down extensions on either end using the reel frame as mounting points with taps to turn on / off each boom. it’s useful to have a spring or occystrap tension the boom so it can pivot backwards…. Just in case you catch it on something (tree / fence) without breaking everything.

Hey Mark, I've seen those booms for the rear of spray trailers. I'll check them out a bit closer. Thanks for the suggestions. Cheers

Wooooo Hoo! What a great little unit. The only thing that I would be a bit worried about would be, if there is any residual poison left in the tank that will need a good clean out. Other than that, I think filtration will be your biggest problem... Do you filter it to the point where no fiber - from the Comfrey - is coming through your spray set up and would that defeat the whole process, or do you just drill holes in the outlet pipe to allow the water to pour out under pressure? ...

Hey Les, yeah this is a concern for me also. I'm talking with CSIRO about neutralising the poison residual in the fire glass. I'll let you know how the results when they come through.
