Metal complex I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being one of the few knife reviewers that doesnt have an annoying voice. It is much appreciated! 👍
Late to the AD15 party here. Just picked one up for a price I just couldn’t pass on. Holy Crap... what a beast of a knife. Two small nicks to finger tips later, and I’m hooked. Watching your closing method made the difference. Now I can easily open and close one handed. Thanks MC!
Just got this one, and I love it. Very stiff out of box, but very smooth action after break in. Now just $150... Great hard use companion to my 4Max Scout, now just $70!
I bought mine from the first run , and it only took a few days of playing with it before I got it running like an axis lock , now the blade drops like guillotine because of the weight , I love it .... Also I find it easier to operate the lock bar from the top , near the pivot .
I’ve got one coming this week. I’ve already got a set of those natural Micarta scales for it, I carry my 4 maxx occasionally so a big knife means nothing.. this knife with a few vision mods “DIY” style…. Would look truly custom Also did you see that Lynn actually took Andrew’s actual ad15! And traced out all the pieces, so this is essentially a to scale model of his actual custom, and for a while Cold steel had a very consistent heat treat! I’m I’ve been all about customizing my blades lately or buying knives I can modify
Just scored a LNIB one for $117 off EBay. It was a little tight, but with just a micro adjustment of the pivot it fires great now from stud. Took 2/3 of one coil off the spring and the yoke is even better now. One-handed operation, awesome knife!
I sure like mine. Have tried the different ways to open and close it that the different reviewers show, and now just pinch it to open and close it with one hand. Everybody will end up using their favorite method, arthritis says how I do it. At first, I wished it had bearings, but now through several thousand operations, it has gotten ultra smooth, I don`t think bearings could improve on it. Mine is the Lite version and I am never going to notice the difference in the steel or the handle material. About 90 bucks from Amazon and well worth that.
Thanks for doing this video. You are right about having to get used to the Scorpion Lock, and needing to be careful due to the heavy blade. Check out several videos done by Andrew Demko and you will see how easily it can be manipulated. In the first day I had mine, I was able to easily get it to deploy by flipping it and Spydie flicking it. Also, it easily drops shut and the strong detent sucks it closed when the yoke is lifted. Once you get the hang if it, it is easy to lift the yoke with one hand and using the same hand close the blade with your thumb. I really like that these same moves can be done with whichever is your non-dominant hand.
I took the tip of my middle finger and the tip of my nail off about four years ago getting cocky about one hand closing it! Not my first finger tip and definitely not my last and I still love this knife!
That scorpion lock is as fidget friendly as an axis lock once you get used to it. I sit here while driving and flip the hell outta that beast all day :)
Oh they certainly did raise the price it was $150 when they first came out now they are $202. I lucked out and got in on a Massdrop run right when they came out so I got mine for $130, and now I don’t want to sell it because if I changed my mind, I don’t want to pay that new price. But it is a fun knife
These were $160 about 3 weeks ago. I don’t remember which dealer it was, but I remember it specifically because I came very near to buying it. I was wanting a Cold Steel because I didn’t have one and this one peaked my interest. But I also wanted something in CTS-XHP to try. So, I wound up finding a Code 4 with XHP on some obscure website that was basically half the price so I went with it instead. If I’d of known that the price on these were gonna shoot up $40 I’d of probably gotten it instead, and like I said, I just nearly did. But, somewhat surprisingly, I’m very happy with the Code 4 I got so don’t guess I can really complain too much.
Nice! The only thing I have against Cold Steel is the deployment is never an easy one with one hand you have to use two! That’s why I never carry my Cold Steel knives as for that pocket catch flip open that doesn’t always work!
Amazon has the AD-15 in S35VN at $135.00. Looks to be legit. I ordered one and will have it shortly. Blade HQ and Knife Center $215. FYI. Thanks for the video 😎👍
I bought mine at BladeHQ, when it was first announced, for $159. Now it's listed at $202.49. That's quite a hike. The only thing that I don't like about this knife is the grippy scale area under the clip. It's going to tear up your pocket. I'm hoping that there will be optional scales available in the future.
It's not the knife...its where you are buying from. BHQ is over the top with price, tax & shipping. I just picked one up at WMK (2/8/22) for $144, regular price.
Was setting stands and didnt have a saw with, had this thing in my pocket so i limbed the trees with it, the blade still locks solid and the action somhow got smoother lol
If you ever want to see something similar check out the CRKT Nirk Tighe. I have one and no matter how much you think you might accidentally unlock it, it just doesn't want to.
Thats a good point. If it got dinged up it would probably cause a bit of grittyness in the action as the blade rotates against the lock pin. Fortunately if it was that bad you could probably just sand down any rough spots without negatively affecting the action or function.
I should mention, the Scorpion lock can be lifted maybe an 8th of an inch off the tang of the blade and the lock doesn't press down terribly hard against the tang.
Small price hikes are normal and acceptable, and I just bought this knife at White Mountain Knives for $144. Its not the knife.... its where you are buying or pricing it from. Spyderco, on the other hand, is unquestionably greed motivated. When the Shaman first came out, it was the same price as this knife ~160. Now the Shaman is $250+ Just ridiculous!
I reverse flick mine better and more consistently than thumb flicking . The only thing I'm having trouble really getting used to is the traction on the scales 😬
I know this is a late reply but I couldn't resist what I'm about to say. This is Cold Steel and AD we are talking about, you are more likely to see a Large and XL version come out before you see a small one lol. AD-35 XL folding Katana,
They are looking around 170-190.. but look good. I love my american lawman so much I know it's good or better but no real need to move up that little guy is fucking great.
that lock is not reliable! it's ok for most use scenarios, unless you want to stab something while holding the blade upside down, in which case the force the is acting on the blade, trying to close it, also takes away from the pressure your fist is applying! and 8f you look at the notch, the side preventing the blade from closing is both, slightly lower and ever so slightly angled away from the side closer to the blade. it actually doesn't take much effort to force the blade closed when not gripping. cool knife, but i don't trust the lock
@@nick-wi6et well to be honest i have a clone. seems very high quality though. it unlocks easily if no pressure is being applied and the angle of the notch merely existing, combined with the large radius of the locking pin and the amount of travel needed to unlock, just doesn't make it totally secure.
Cold steel folders just never were appealing to me, not saying that they are made poorly, or designed mechanically bad , just not a first choice for me ever . I do have several of their older fixed blade models that preform great, never liked the looks of their folders..... still don't. Great review though.
Different strokes. I find cold steel to be very well made and a great choice for heavy duty use. Most of their models are competitively priced as well. The ones I've gotten have always been super sharp out of the box. As far as aesthetics, I think the Code 4 is a very attractive piece. And the triad lock is as strong a lock as you'll find in a folder. If I could only have one knife, the Recon one would be right up there.
I think the satin blade Cold Steel recon 1 clip point and spear points are some of the best looking knives around. Great traditional blade shapes, functional, built amazingly well.
It's the scorpion lock.
Thank you!
The faster you can deploy a knife in a box-opening situation, the more office cred you earn.
Lol 🤣
Me to box... "keep your flaps where I can see'em"
I cannot deploy the knife with one hand
@DrewsReviews07 it has a thumb stud? If your talking about disengaging you probably need to have stronger fingers to do it easily

How much did it cost then, if you remember? There are some on amazon for a really good price and people have all said they are authentic. I’m curious.
@@MaFiaMediaHD --- I think I paid $165.00 . They are still $165.00 on Amazon , the last time I checked...

I just picked up the black version on Amazon today for $88. I feel like I got a good deal
With big knives comes big responsibilities
Just a heads up, they raised the price over $50. I got mine for less than $150 from knife center when it first released.
Oh they certainly did raise the price it was $150 when they first came out now they are $202. In 2021 this is back down to 138 on amazon!

Is it a mandatory to reference Benchmade griptilian when showing Ritter hogue?
Yes, so the guy sitting at home with a Griptilian knows it’s the same size as the Ritter Hogue.
VOID VISIONARY it’s not though
Yes
Metal Complex: "Andrew Demko, *WANTS* to hurt you!"

Thanks for the review.
Do you like the black or green one better?
Cold Steel needs green with black and black with black models. I just got one with black grips
you should try the buck marksman. i love the lock on it

what is your ad 15 difficult to thumb flick? I just got mine in the mail and it feels rather difficult
My biggest fear with the AD15 is if you drop it on that exposed tang and ding it, how will that affect the action?

Great looking knife 👍

No. The scorpion lock has come in different colors. You can easily find examples on Google at major retailers.
Shabazz and slicy's were both tan I was curious as well hahah
