    Trafi is definitely the way to go! Ticket system + option comparison between public transit, carsharing and taxi. I've left my Vilnius cards at home :)

      Agreed! I especially love that it provides so much information about bus times and their real-time locations.

    I will be sharing this with my students (Vilniečiai) who have their own cars, so hardly ever use buses. One guy last took public transport in Vilnius in around 1987 and had no idea how to buy a ticket! :)

      Wow that’s a long time to go without taking public transport… I’m sure a lot of fuel and parking costs could have been avoided!

    Please make a video about transport in Kaunas. You could also do how to get from the airport to the city centre. Keep up the good work :) 🇱🇹

    With the new system & the Trafi update (such as that you now need a minimum purchase of 5 euros, or around 8x 30 min tickets with no discount), I think this video warrants a second part discussing on what's changed.

  • @remyaditya
    @remyaditya 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Well explained. Would love to have a close up of the actual video of the ticket machine when you activate and buy a ticket.
    Also what happens if I buy a 30 min ticket but by mistake I over stay in a bus ?

    • @LithuaniaExplained
      @LithuaniaExplained  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can pause the video at certain points (like 2:31) to see what the screen looks like. Sorry - i could have done that but didn't get a chance to.
      If your card is loaded with tickets, it will show you the type (30min or 60min), how many tickets you have left, and when your current ticket will expire.
      If you buy a 30min ticket and overstay, nothing will happen unless you are caught by Kontrole. The Judu website says that there is a grace period of 10 minutes (so in reality a 30 minute ticket is 'worth' 40 minutes, and a 60 minute ticket is 70 minutes). It might be good to find that webpage and bookmark it incase you're ever caught within those 10 extra minutes.
      Thanks for watching and commenting :D

    The public transport system has changed now. There 3-4 more smaller buses. They are the 117, 118, and the 119. The new ticket validators work a lot better now, and you can now have multiple ticket types.

      Oh no! Sorry to hear about your Trafi experience 🙈. Maybe you need to change your googlePlay store country settings or something? I’m an iPhone person so I dont know Android that well.
      Other useful apps: Bolt and Wolt. To manage my SIM card I have the app of the company (Pildyk in this case). A great idea for another video nonetheless 😁

    you are underated! anyways, I recently went to "akropolis" (the big store) in vilnius with my friend. after we had an awesome time, he got on one bus, and I got on the other. I thought that i'll wait a couple of stops (bad idea) till this big guy comes off the bus so I can get my card out to activate the ticket. after a couple of stops, I see that the yellow checker machine says that it was paused or something (idk I don't remember), I didn't think anything of it until the "kontrolė" comes onto the bus, my heart started pumping like crazy, I didn't even have anymore money to pay the fine, so I just hoped for the best. I don't know why, but they didn't check the middle of the bus (where I was at) so I wasn't fined or anything. I did activate the ticket after they left. (sorry for the long story)

    • @LithuaniaExplained
      @LithuaniaExplained  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for sharing your story! That has happened to me twice recently. I think if the ticket checkers are busy catching others then they will just let the bus go. They don’t want to keep the buses too long!

    • @krubzbubz
      @krubzbubz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LithuaniaExplained yes, true, there was a guy who was really angry at the ticket checkers which took several minutes to solve, I didn't hear what he was saying, but he was shouting really loud.

    is there any student discount? and if there is how do i get it?

  • @sergeyd9254
    @sergeyd9254 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Using trafi doesn't guarantee you that you'll be fine on ticket check/enforcement. I was recently had to pay fare 8 euro. Controllers entered 2 stops after I had entered transport and activated ticket via trafi. They told that 3 mins after activation are an indicator that I'm an unfair transport user. As if I predicted they'll check me after 2 stops.
    After rough research, I found that it is a known issue with trafi or mTicket. From now I'm considering using plastic card to avoid such cases in the future. Not sure I'll get back already bought tickets in traffi to plastic card.

    Hi there. Very informative video. One question though: Can I validate two tickets (for two people) with the Trafi app at the same time? Thanks!

    • @LithuaniaExplained
      @LithuaniaExplained  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think so; but there have been updates to the app so I think it’s possible that this function was added. Sorry I can’t give you a firm answer!

  • @robertapetrylaite4043
    @robertapetrylaite4043 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video! If I activate a 30-minute ticket but get off 10 minutes later to catch another bus, would I still have to scan my card and another ticket would be activated? Or will it automatically choose that pre-activated ticket that I had used for the first bus?

    • @LithuaniaExplained
      @LithuaniaExplained  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ticket will stay activated and you don’t have to do anything when changing buses :)
      You are always able to tap your card at any time to check how much time remains on your ticket. Of course, if your ticket has expired then tapping might automatically activate another.

  • @und4287
    @und4287 ปีที่แล้ว

    2023 UPDATE: -They're apparently planning to implement a new system, where you now have to tap the card EVERY TIME, even if you have a month ticket that is already activated.- With the old system, you would just need to activate it once and you didn't need to tap every time you get on. Supposedly this will make it easier to determine the "popularity" of a route, so that the schedules can be optimized, however public transport has cameras as well, so those could also be used to calculate this.
    EDIT: They ended up deciding to not implement the "tap every time" system.

    • @LithuaniaExplained
      @LithuaniaExplained  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for adding that, and then updating it :) News keeps changing! I understand the reason for them wanting to do it, but it would also be so impractical during busy times of the day. Maybe instead they should have said that they "request" that you tap every time, but not make it mandatory...

    I read somewhere that the trafi app only works with a Lithuanian phone number. Is that right?

    • @LithuaniaExplained
      @LithuaniaExplained  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m actually not sure about this. Sorry! At least it’s fairly cheap and easy to get a Lithuanian SIM card if that is true.

  • @BubblesZest
    @BubblesZest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So say if I have a 5 day Vilniecio Kortele, do I have only have to validate it everytime I get on a bus, cause surely a thing like that shouldn't need topping up at all?

    • @LithuaniaExplained
      @LithuaniaExplained  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For passes, just tap in once to activate it, then just keep it with you for random inspections. You definitely wouldn’t need to tap-in every time you get on a bus.
