I've been using the Satechi Slim X1 keyboard for a 2.5 months now. I largely agree with you. There is a lot to like about it. I personally prefer the key travel and feel as opposed to the Apple Magic Keyboard. What you call mushy, I call firm tactile. I find Apple external keyboards to be too harsh on my fingers. I guess I'm a tough typist. I must have gotten one of the earlier units as well. At first, I'd get keys double-registering keystrokes. It was a little annoying but I was quite certain that after a little while, the keys would wear in and that would stop. And it has. Mostly. Once in a while it happens. It could be me. I could be just noticing more because of the obvious keyboard problem earlier. It's not annoying. We all make little typos here and there. I actually like the little, attachable feet on the keyboard. I thought the first thing you did as well: it feels cheap. But then I love the simplicity and tank-like feel of the keyboard firmly planted on my desk. You don't have to worry about them snapping off. And if you don't like the height, get some other attachable feet you can find in most hardware stores. Battery life is awesome. In the 2.5 months using the keyboard, I've charged it 2x. Once at install. Fantastic battery life. Of course it lacks some polish and features available on the Apple keyboard. The backlighting while helpful could be nicer. Everything else is really 'Apple Only' like checking the charge via the menu bar and having to disable File Vault for the keyboard to be recognized at boot. Little things like that. But certainly not deal-breakers. I'd give the Satechi Slim X1 keyboard a 'high 4' where I'd give the Apple keyboard a 'low 4'. There were some teething pains in the beginning but I love it. I’ve gone through 2 keychron keyboards and man they are crap. Worked great for about a year then both crapped out. Customer service was a joke. Just bought a Satechi. Minor wish that RGB backlights were available but doesn’t make or break it. Thanks for the info Jeff.
Previously used the Satechi keyboard but found that battery life is very disappointing compared to the Apple Magic keyboard. Do love the dark color and design and when you don’t mind using the USB-c cable its great!
With the cable that comes with Apple's keyboard, does that mean you can use it without BlueTooth, or is that cable just for charging the internal battery?

It is a close feel, maybe a tad stronger; 1st gen Bluetooth Apple keyboards had a lot of key travel and were harder, while the new magic keyboards are at the other end of the scale; the X1 would sit in the middle.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been thinking about getting the Magic Keyboard for sometime now and this video just convinced me to get this one instead. Again, thank you for creating such an informative piece.
you know what's crazy is that apple's magic keyboard costs 100 dollars and the larger one 129 dollars yet they do not have backlighting. I just find it crazy that this keyboard has more features for a lower price
Yea no backlight on the Apple keyboard is a deal breaker. They need to implement something similar to what I’ve seen with a Logitech wireless backlit keyboard that lights up as your hands get closer to it and type so it doesn’t always stay on, helping battery life
Please define more elegant implementation of the back lighting? It looks nice and about same on MacBook pros, perhaps even better since it seems to bleed the light more below and to the sides of the keys
when you use the fn lock and press the numbers 1, 2 or 3 does it change the device pairing? Sounds silly, but having fn lock is amazing for excel, but having numbers locked would be terrible for excel. So it would kind of lose it´s purpose I guess. Having a fn lock that lock only the f1-12 keys would be great.
biggest question is, does the X1's fn key work as normal, default fn key for Mac?? because I set Siri command with fn+space combination for my old 2013 late MBPr and I was disappointed to the fact that Logitech K810's fn key wouldn't be recognized to my Macs
I just bought this one. The light bleeds through the keys. Also found that when backlit. The bottom row of keys from c v b m doesn’t get lit that well. Idk might return it
It doesn't seem bad . I prefer the Macally USB full keyboard. It has all the MacOS short cuts, back light and is USB. I prefer to have it wired for my imac and never have to worry about battery life. The lighting is weak but good enough . It also has a full keypad on the right. The magic keyboard felt too small and cramped for larger hands and I sold it. The macally one is my favorite .

3:33 Please, next time do a little sample keyboard sound test (and without any background talking/music). Most people looking at a keyboard review usually look forward to hearing the sound (or close to it).
Nice keyboard, but the only problem and its a big one for me... The left / right arrow keys are too big, I am used to the inverted T-shape arrow keys for a better and faster touch for me... I know they are following the layout of the Apple Magic keyboard, but I hope there will be a better alternative with the inverted T-Shape arrow keys.
The most main benefit of this keyboard is, that it's available in cabled version 😳 Apple don't offer anymore. Thank you so much. I am searching several years for a good replacement of my old apple, wired keyboard with very short press depth...
These aren’t butterfly keys, but I get what you’re saying, and I largely agree. The Keychron K2 is my go-to, and I’m about to reviews their newest model.
I have various mechanical keyboards and even an optical gaming keyboard. Nothing beats the feel of the keyboard on my Macbook Pro M1. I hear you, other scissor-switch keyboards feel either too stiff (hands get tired when typing quickly) or too "mushy" (cheap). The Macbook Pro M1 keyboard is perfect for me, and I have yet to find a keyboard that has the exact same feel. Having said that, when it comes to typing speed and precision I am most proficient on my mechanical keyboard with Gateron brown switches. They keys are easy to press (45g activation) yet spring back quickly enough, and the tactile bump trains the muscle memory to confirm that I have indeed pressed a key. But I still prefer the FEEL of the Macbook Pro M1 keyboard. I wish I could buy one just like it to attach my my Windows PC.
Wait...magic keyboard doesnt have backlighting?? ddnt know, am not a mac person, I feel it should be illegal to create a keyboard or laptop without backlighting
I have a Slim X1. For others who also have a Slim X1, does your caps lock light turn on? Mine doesn't light up "green". Just checking if it turns on for everyone else?
I find that the battery life is poor and I'm having to charge it more frequently than the Apple Magic Keyboard. Also, the backlit LEDs will always turn off, even after I start typing. My last gripe is that I've started to experience lag. I thought maybe it was an issue with a very long Google Doc that I've been working on but as soon as I switched to the Apple Magic Keyboard, the lag went away. While it does look nice, I still prefer the Apple Magic Keyboard.
The keyboard itself feels great, but the bluetooth connection with windows 11 is VERY problematic. I don't know which side is causing the problem, but connecting is a pretty hit or miss thing.
Watched the whole video to find out how much it is and still don’t know. It’s $29 cheaper than the Apple one, well, how much are those? no idea. Guess I’ll go look it up.
Does anyone have an issue with the double register type on tthis keyboard ? and how to fix it ? I just bought one, I like the feeling but it is quite annoying.
Does anyone else need to their Slim X1 turned on and then back off when turning on the computer? I have mine connected to my monitors USB hub (eventhough it's wireless) and each time I turn off the monitor overnight and turn it back on the next day, they keyboard needs to be reconnected via the cable. It's really annoying.
Thanks for the review! I’ve tried using this keyboard for about a month and found that when it goes into the sleep mode, it takes a couple clicks to awake. It’s annoying as I’m starting to type, it doesn’t respond and I’ll need to start over.
Yes, this is the biggest problem I have found with Satechi Keyboards. I wish they would fix it, it's the only thing wrong with them but so annoying. The Apple Magic Keyboard is the same size and they manage to do it, battery lasts forever and it never goes to sleep.
I love the satechi X1 backlight and typing experience...., but i've gone through 5 or 6 of them by now. they just break and start typing gibberish. never the same gibberish between keyboards. has anyone else had this issue? satetchi must know about the issue, as they just send me a new one when I contact them.
The wireless X1 version is kind of unreliable; the keyboard goes to sleep often and inconsistently; sometimes after a few minutes, other times after half an hour. To wake it, requires pressing keys a couple times. When it's connected wired to a monitor's USB hub and you turn the monitor on, the keyboard DOES NOT WORK; for some reason it needs to be unplugged and plugged in again; this is also true when it's connected to a desktop motherboard's usb ports or even a case's front panel, the same happens if the computer has been turned off. The keyboard's finish, tactile feel, colours, backlight, etc. ALL are amazing. It's just too bad it's so erratic. I may consider getting the wired version (Slim W1) instead, though realistically the Magic Keyboard may be the more sensible purchase to ditch the cable.
How could you have not said “the backlighting is where this keyboard really SHINES”?
I love how these keyboard reviews don't have a typing sample. These guys must sell lamps without lighting them. There's just a nice shape to them.
When he types he is typing with two fingers, that could be the reason :)

Yes, mine does.
Does the USB button on the extreme right work? The eject button on my Logitech k811 has never worked.
While it does look nice, I still prefer the Apple Magic Keyboard.
hello, awesome shots, what's your camera?
the fn key from X1 satechi doesn't switch language, how can I fix it?
Good review, brand is great, keyboard looks good but lacks fingerprint sensor which may be more relative than some extra great features
Why TH-cam didn’t recommend this video before I bought the magic keyboard 😠😠😡. I have been searching for weeks.!
i feel so too
3:36 I have never seen anyone who types like that!
Would this be decent for gaming? I do light gaming but I MW, Apex and Fortnite(when I’m bored basically it’s panic in solo then quit lol)
The keyboard itself feels great, but the bluetooth connection with windows 11 is VERY problematic. I don't know which side is causing the problem, but connecting is a pretty hit or miss thing.
What is the screen/display for the Mac mini you showed at 6.11 ?
Hi, what monitor do you have in the video? It looks amazing without any bezels
maybe dell ultrasharp 32
Pro Display XDR
Watched the whole video to find out how much it is and still don’t know. It’s $29 cheaper than the Apple one, well, how much are those? no idea. Guess I’ll go look it up.
anyone else having the key repeat problem?
Does anyone have an issue with the double register type on tthis keyboard ? and how to fix it ? I just bought one, I like the feeling but it is quite annoying.
every time you said “Slim X1” I heard “slim-ass one” 🙃
Does anyone else need to their Slim X1 turned on and then back off when turning on the computer? I have mine connected to my monitors USB hub (eventhough it's wireless) and each time I turn off the monitor overnight and turn it back on the next day, they keyboard needs to be reconnected via the cable. It's really annoying.
Love the keyboard, and HDR!!!!
Does this connects to iPad Pro M1?
Does the slim X one also work with a Windows computer?
Thanks for the review! I’ve tried using this keyboard for about a month and found that when it goes into the sleep mode, it takes a couple clicks to awake. It’s annoying as I’m starting to type, it doesn’t respond and I’ll need to start over.
Yep, sleeps after about 30 minutes. I think that’s kind of understandable, because there’s not a huge battery inside this slim keyboard.
Thanks for the reply! I agree, however for me, that’s why I decided to use Apple’s keyboard! Keep up the good work!!
Yes, this is the biggest problem I have found with Satechi Keyboards. I wish they would fix it, it's the only thing wrong with them but so annoying. The Apple Magic Keyboard is the same size and they manage to do it, battery lasts forever and it never goes to sleep.
Why is nobody mentioning that he keeps saying Setachi when its Satechi??
Does it work on the iPad Pro 4th gen?
Anything similar for win10 users ??
What’s the display connected to ya Mac Mini and what dimensions? - looking for 2 smaller displays with slim bezels...
Pro Display XDR
Is it compatible with Android devices?
Does this work for samsung tablets?
Is this compatible with windows?
