Downtown Miami has been a pit for decades. When I was a child in the late 50s and early 60s, our mothers would take us downtown for a speaicl treat to eat in the restaurant at Burdines. Women dressed up and wore short white daytime gloves to go downtown. It was lovely. The Freedom Tower was the tallest building there. I love the way the skyline has developed (I am a city girl at heart), but the businesses in most of the blocks around Flagler have been trash for decades. Full of counterfeit and cheap junk. Miami's downtown has so much potential to be a walkable, wonderful place. We have the Metrorail, Metromover and Brightline to get people to downtown and around it, and parking garages (which the city needs to set lower rates for). Yes, there aren't any parking garages on N. Miami Avenue where you are pointing, but there isn't any publicly available parking in much of lower and central Manhattan either and it is thriving there because there is a subway and bus system that goes everywhere. The Miami WorldCenter under construction across from the arena is a great step, and Brickell City Centre was a great addition. Then you have Bayside right on the water. And the amazing park that's coming for the currently fenced-off areas under 395 when they finish raising the roadways and putting in that fountain/spider (take your pick) sculpture over the roadway. The Seybold Building with its jewelers is a world-reknowned treasure that needs to be highlighted. This is a hub of reputable, GOOD jewelers, not the cheap/fake/counterfeit junk that was in those street level shops around downtown. If we could connect places like that with a mix of high end and affordable shops and restaurants on the ground floor of the buildings, it would attract good tenants for offices and apartments on the floors above. We need to crack down on all of the crap that's on the street level, enforce laws and get rid of the criminals and vagrants. A lot of the business that are closed are the crap ones they finally got the tenants out of, which makes them available to better businesses that cleaning up the place will attract. There are lots of apartments that have been built and more coming in, but we need to add ones that are more affordable. Thriving business on the street level and people living in great spaces above. The large closed building you're saying should be converted to a homeless shelter because people are sleeping in front of it should NOT be converted to a homeless shelter. To do that would void all of the good that could be done with downtown. Camillus House built a very BIG new facility a few years ago on the other side of 95, and that's where the homeless should be given free rides to. The world would fall in love with this city if it's done right.

I used to work in downtown Miami way back in the 70's and 80's when it was a thriving business center. There was plenty of free or affordable parking and good public transportation. We had plenty of major dept stores (Burdine's, Richards, Jordan Marsh) that drew customers in and plenty of little "niche" (sewing, jewelry, clothing) businesses that thrived on their uniqueness. Now, with the lack of free and safe parking nobody wants to bother with the hassle of going downtown to shop when they can just drive to a mall or shop online. IMHO the only way to restore downtown Miami is to make living and shopping in the area affordable to the middle class by providing more "pedestrian only" boulevards, affordable first time buyers apts/condos, institute and enforce "no broken windows" laws to eliminate graffiti and homeless tents on public sidewalks. Case in point, Lincoln Road Mall in Miami Beach used to be a hovel till developers started to buy and restore art deco hotels that in turn drew in the young and the beautiful people that in turn revitalized the shops on Lincoln Road. This is going to require a massive commitment by politicians and developers but I believe that it can be done because what this video does not show is that just up the road Brickell Avenue is thriving with businesses and luxury apts and buildings.

If its anything like California, most of the homeless dont want your help and the reasons why are they get a FREE Smart-phone with a netflix/hulu account, $600 a month cash, and they get the freedom of no accountability or responsibility. They get specific safe places in hospitals to do drugs where they get free needles, free crack pipes and everything needed as far as a clean environment to get there minds melted.
The second issue is. California in 2018 spent 618M+ within a year the overall homeless population statewide increased 7%, LA alone was 14% of that increase.
The people responsible for orchestration of the entire program make 300K+, who knows what they pay the underlings. If they solve the Homeless issue, guess who doesnt have a 300k+ cush job anymore?
You get 3 guesses and the first 2 dont count.. THEY make more money than they waste on the solutions. Same with your insurance, transportation, freighting and logistics.. EVERYTHING is being collapsed so they can usher in a FULL CASHLESS society and digital system where every transaction will be micromanaged and controlled. As a small business owner they are coming after all of the smaller than me little etsie and venmo side hustles. i think you hit the nail on the head. Brutal gentrification using both legal and non legal tactics and over development based on speculation. Over inflation of the commercial and residential real estate. Conflicts of interest in politics. Federal tax breaks on the loses for not having tenants in a over priced commercial space. I live in San Francisco and we are seeing the result of that here as well. Condos coming up everywhere and not many buyers or renters. So many unit sit empty yet politicians say we don’t have enough housing so we should build more condos. What a scam!

The poor w/all attendant problems have always been ignored. Mental illness is still regarded as a moral issue; now prisons repurpose units specifically to house the mentally ill. I lived as an untreated bipolar, homeless, wandering for a few years. I understand this life. However, the infrastructure of the city wasn’t crumbling, there were some available services, and nobody was starving. Drugs weren’t as suicidal as today. (Always excepting heroin) Small businesses thrived, there was reliable city transportation, medical clinics. When I see these areas now, in all cities, l can see how many more people are on the curb. It’s unconscionable. There is no governmental assistance. Starting to look like 1929, beginning of the Great Depression! Self interest rules, all over the globe. Everywhere. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

OMG! My daughters childhood memories, my non-profit, my volunteering, my teaching, my everything for decades. Looks like cult decided to lay their ideas about who can live in Miami. Hey! Remind them that I still haven’t gotten a cent from the MILLIONS THEY OWE ME. That’s 23 agencies, hundreds of arrests, stolen property from my storage that was paid for after being kidnapped, battered and tortured for reporting Federal Fraud. Tell them, I said “No constructions until all debts are paid, I’m owe soooooooooooooo much! It’s no joke. And many are held accountable for murdering my daughters! I haven’t forgotten, I will never forget, and I will NEVER LET IT GO. It was and still is a VERY MASSIVE CRIME SCENE! I’m glad the Creator activated my Divine SEAL there in Miami, my daughters and I WERE surrounded by great people, until……..2002 and 2004 when Miami-Dade County did what they did with the help of 23 AGENCIES. The embarrassment is so overwhelming for that county, I feel so sorry for the “CLEAN HEARTS” that are barely making it or alive to remember how the county was left after that massive fraud to which NO ONE was arrested. But by what cop? If everyone was compromised and/or THREATENED if they interfered. Thank you for the walk of memories, I helped hundreds of people over the years there, especially in that neighborhood where many homeless people got to meet me and benefited from what I gave, because it came from the heart in a city I placed so high in my daughters eyes only to become victims of the most atrocious criminal acts ever done to a resident. Good thing I’m a massive part of Judgment Day, guess who are my 1st customers on my JUDICIAL LIST 🤣😂🤣 Guess 😂🤣😂. There are many “Clean Hearts” that stays in my heart from Miami that will be returning home to Paradise. Unfortunately not a happy moment to know WHO did not MAKE THE CUT! Pay Up! You’re so late and behind in the massive payments you owe me. (Sorry, I got emotional, it’s the decades of memories). 🫶😇 Great job!

@@Gypsygirl9 I am the Highest ranking Angel whose Divine Seal was activated in Miami while my daughters were still in Middle School. We lived in Miami for over 20+ years. My daughters and I were targeted because of WHO I am. In addition to that crime scene, in 2002 & 2004 Miami-Dade had committed two Federal Frauds from the Section 8 Program, stealing billions of dollars that went missing and was never recovered. Reading from what was done to me while my daughters went missing without a cause or reason they were murdered! By very scrupulous people of questionable morals. The city was overthrown by a severe corruption that took control of 23 agencies, crippling a city and endangering the residents that lived there in that time frame. I serviced the community for the entire time I’ve lived there. My community knew my daughters and I. The story too long for me to post it. But granting you the knowledge of what happened. Since my Celestial Seal went active, I’ve been monitoring everything, like an auditor of this Planet, because it’s my job. Earth had 6 prior warnings of violations to Human Protocols (those warnings could span within 3,000 years, so 6 Divine Seals has shown up here on Earth). The 7th one like myself, he was Male. A contract was made to re-evaluate since a settlement was made then to correct any Human Protocol Violations. So you are on constant watch because you have now technology that DOES NOT belong to you, along with knowledge that is harmful if you do not understand it. So it’s up to me to report to the CREATOR my findings along with reports other Angels may have around the World. GOD is then contacted by the CREATOR to proceed to NEXT STEP. I hope this helped with your question. I am owed so much money for the magnitude of damages done to me and my personal property stolen by “Certain” people trying to steal evidences that incriminates them. 🧐😇

Hello: I wanted to comment because I am a bit confused as to the purpose of your video. For future videos you might want to offer a bit of context. I understand that you are a young man so you never lived the "golden years " of Downtown Miami as a shopping destination. During the 70s and 80s downtown Miami was "THE" place to shop, for all sorts of things. There were stores like Woolworths, McCrory's, Jefferson Ward among others. The reason it was such a popular shopping spot is because the existing malls were quite a distance from the most populated areas of the county which were the areas surrounding downtown, including Little Havana.
For some context to your viewers, downtown Miami was NEVER a place to hang out and spend time. People came to work, and shop that's it. There were no restaurants other than a few cafeterias. Because of the proximity of downtown to pretty rough neighborhoods such as Overtown and Liberty City, most businesses closed pretty early because after dark you did not want to be in downtown especially in the 80s.
As a 13 or 14 year old kid, I remember coming to downtown with my grandma to shop for sewing supplies, and other things, because you could get really great deals. In the late 80s, Bayside marketplace was inaugurated, in downtown in an area known as Bayfront Park, and yes Bayfront Park IS PART OF DOWNTOWN. Bayside Marketplace offered a lot of retail space TONS OF PARKING, easy access via Mertrorail and the Metromover, and also by boat so a lot of businesses moved there.
In the late 90s and 2000s, the extension of downtown Miami began. Many shops and restaurants began to open in the areas of Downtown closest to the water, the Huge sports arena opened and the downtown life shifted sligtly towards the east.
What the author of this video is showing you is the result of the expansion of "Downtown" into areas that offer easier accessibility, more space etc. Where he is filming this video is SMACK in the center of downtown where there is no parking, incredible congestion, so it is normal that people chose to stop going there because of the difficulties.
What he fails to tell you in the video is that the Brickel area is now considered part of downtown which is where all the amazing nightlife now is, plus the Bayfront park area. Additionally all the new beautiful buildings that have been built along the Miami river as it opens up into the bay and in addition the wynwood area.
I do not know if you travel around the country but you are going to see very similar things in MANY downtowns in large cities, like Baltimore, Detroit, San Francisco, Atlanta etc, as the trends are moving retail businesses and restaurants towards the suburbs.
So basically this video is filmed in the very center of Downtown Miami in a very small area as evidenced by the fact that he has walked it all.
For more context google "Miami Bayfront Park", Wynwood, Brickell city center, Brickell.
    To the Author:
While it is cool that you are bringing these things to light, your video gives the impression that this is all of downtown miami when in reality it is not.
The homeless on 2nd avenue is nothing new, I can remember almost 35 years ago there were homeless people in that area. This is why the Camillus house shelter and now clinic is located in that area. Additionally the homeless shelter near the old omni mall.
The closed stores are a normal process of change, that does not mean that all the stores and restaurants in Miami are closing, again your viewers will see that in the surrounding areas that have been integrated as part of downtown are full of restaurants and stores and great nightlife.
In summary, your video is pretty misleading, it gives no context to viewers, you do not talk about the reasons why all those very old stores from the 70s and 80s are closed. The fact is that there is a huge transition still taking place. Next time please do a bit of historical research so that your videos have a bit more credibility.
Do not take my lengthy comment in a negative light, I commend you for your videos but it is important you give your viewers the right historical context.
    Cheers

The people in Washington have no clue the real shape of our country. Someone needs to take all the politicians on a tour of all the homeless areas in America. They need a serious wake-up call. All the time and money being spent on taking Donald Trump down is only back firing. All towns are experiencing empty stores and malls. Our economy is so bad.

OMG! The place has become a concrete jungle. I worked in Downtown Miami for Dade County Schools and The Miami Herald (gone now) from 1975--1982. Biscayne and N.E. 2nd Avenue. I remember when they opened The OMNI Mall and Hotel there. Downtown was cool, man. There were "bums" there, but not shit and piss that I could see/smell. I went to college at Miami Dade South and then FIU.
