Mamamoo doesn't give me girl idol group vibes. And that was not meant in a bad way, I mean that they seem so much more professional than as just an idol group (I'm not saying that being an idol is unprofessional or anything like that). Their style is so unique and amazing, it honestly gives me goosebumps when I watch them. Honestly can't get enough of them
KookiesWithNoJam yes exactly, I think the reason I couldn’t get into other girl groups is because they fetishize the whole “cute” girl culture - kind of childlike I don’t know how to explain.
I don’t mean to come off as offensive or shading here, but I think it’s safe to say that a lot of GGs (and BBs) tend to just be pretty faces and do whatever their companies tell then to do. They’re more of a brand than artists. I never stanned a GG or even a BB before because I always knew in the back of my head that it was all superficial (to varying degrees), but Mamamoo is so much different.
They have a lot of creative freedom in their work, and it shows. You can tell they care a lot about their work and the artistry of music, as well as how they can use their art to deliver messages they think is important.
Again, not shading or being offensive, but this is just my observations and opinions.
Alot of Koreans consider them as artists and not idols and that is a big compliment in Korea.

Latin-inspired songs are really frequent in K-pop these days, and yet MAMAMOO presented it like they started those Latin-inspired songs. They always bring class and authenticity when it comes to performing on stages. To be honest, the songs on the "Red Moon" album could compete with the biggest girl groups in the industry. Personally, it is one of the best albums that MAMAMOO has released. Of course, they'll win some awards for "Egotistic". They're doing well on charts, but it will be hard, Chungha and TWICE are still ahead of them in charts. But I'm certain that they'll have, at least a win in minimum.

I swear, there's something about Mamamoo in their Egotistic era. It's as if their confidence was suddenly through the roof especially Moonbyul. The reason most of all the GG in korean has Sountrack vocals, or the sountrack vocals are louder than the live mic, is that they can lip sync whenever they want. Mamamoo is the only GG group that has almost to none of that because they can do it live anyway.
The closest of almost to none ST vocals are 2nd and 3rd gg's main vocalists (new gg now are what I call 4th gens IDK why people are calling them 3rd gens maybe they think SNSD, WG gen are the first one).
But newer GG like Twice, BP you can clearly hear the sountrack backing them up because of their poor vocals. They have good faces anyway but performance wise? they badly fail.
