They were supposed to celebrate their 42 years of togetherness this year but sadly, my father passed away a few weeks ago. Our family especially my mother was deeply saddened and we miss him everyday. But by playing this song, many great memories came back. I remember when I played this song to them as a trial of choosing their wedding song. My mother got teary-eyed and she immediately agreed that this will be the one that will be played on their wedding march. I'm so glad to listen to this song once again in this difficult time of our lives.

The battle footage that captured the fighting made me wince, but it gave me an even deeper respect for our WW2 vets and the ultimate sacrifice many of them made. When I was a child, I enjoyed listening to the news, whether it was local, state, national, or global. I watched programs on PBS with my parents. My sister & I had to ask for permission before turning on the TV. In the late 1970s, when cablevision and HBO became popular, my parents refused to subscribe to it. They said there was enough garbage on TV as it was, why should they pay extra for more garbage? Soon, our house was the only one that still had an antenna on the roof! Back then, I thought they were too strict, but in retrospect, I'm glad they were. 🙂

My dad was born in NY during the Depression, and grew up during WW2. He served in the Army from 1948-1969. He met and married Mom in Wiesbaden in the early 1960s. I really believe that the early circumstances of my parents' respective childhoods shaped them into conservative, hardworking people, who shunned credit cards and the latest fads. If everybody had strict and conservative parents like mine, we wouldn't have all these domestic problems. Just my .02.
