    The music adds to the feel; and there’s elements straight out if Toccata and Fugue in there. Fantastic selection and RIP to those locos.

    EWS made a big mistake scraping the 37/4 before the 37/7 only to end up needing the 37/4 for passenger duties not long after.

    I bunked that depot so many times in the late 80's, that video is almost surreal and hard to believe, we would go down there to get the NEW high numbered 37's, also Radyr and Llantrisant, CF and LE, cut down cab 08's. How sad but a great video all the same mate. I saw those 09's operational in happier days on the southern region.

    theres something facinating with scrapyards, I guess they are afterall a museum of sort. it seems to me so indignant that they let these train after many years of loyal service to end up as rotting corpse, discarted. I understand that not everthing can be preserved, but it took an awful lot of human energy to create one of these from a drawing board. strange how politicians like regalia and pomp for their funerals after their many, many years of disservice. thanks for the vid

    Its a sad but strangely fascinating sight seeing rows of scraped locos. I have subb'd your channel, like your video. Please feel free to check out my channel, its a developing OO Gauge layout set in the 80's when these locos were in full flow. Comment and subscriptions welcome. Thanks for sharing your video with us. Dave

    I looked a few of the 09s up and sadly they’ve been cut up. Quite sad to see something in scrap condition when it could be cut up any day.

    All three former Trainload Freight companies including Loadhaul were acquired in Feb 1996 by 'North-South Railways': a company formed by a consortium led by US railroad company Wisconsin Central, for a combined total of £225.15million. The USA based Omnitrax in association with Loadhaul management submitted an unsuccessful bid. The three companies together with Rail Express Systems were formed into a new company, English Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS).

    I wonder what the price of a working gronk is, We used to have a single one in Denmark bought second hand from the british army DSB ML 6. working in Copenhagen pooling cars between the Carlsberg Brewery and the shunting yard untill it broke down and was cut up, it stood out from all our other shunting locomotives. it could be cool to get one of these iconic locomotives once again and paint it in the liveries of ML6

    Thanks for recording this - not the best end for such great machines but fascinating to see. Sometimes we never know what great locos and locations that this country has....till it's virtually gone...

  • @RailPhotoAnthology

    Hi Lewis,
    Well it's a bit hit and miss I am affraid. I always try to go down at weekends when its quite, if you go down to the depot and ask you can quite often get to look around. On the three occaisions I had been before the first time I asked a depot worker and he said "I have not seen you - be very careful and keep away from the running lines",
    on the second occaision access was refused and we were told to clear off! and on the third occasion we were allowed to look around.

  • @RailPhotoAnthology

    Thanks for watching - The music was chosen to reflect the loss of a great depot & loco's........

  • @RailPhotoAnthology
    @RailPhotoAnthology  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Howard,
    They are normally quite good at Margam, quite often at weekends you can walk around the depot as well.
    Always important to ask permission first otherwise it can get a bit sticky, its a bit hit and miss. The last time I went down to the depot I was allowed to walk round as long as I did not go near the running lines.
    It depends who is working sometimes you can walk around but sometimes you can't.

    Hi Matt,
    The nearest station is Port Talbot,
    but it is a fair way 2-3 miles away from there. You really need to get someone to drive there as its only about a mile from the M4 junction.

    @RailPhotoAnthology  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Railfan60121, Yes you used to be able to get permission to walk around. The blokes at Margam were really good.
    Now the Margam depot you have seen has gone, knocked down and loco's either moved or scrapped :-(

  • @RailPhotoAnthology
    @RailPhotoAnthology  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi cornettoman6 - Back when the old Margam depot was still open if you asked to take a look around the depot it was normally ok. Most of the depot staff were very friendly and providing you did as you were told it was ok!

  • @alanbottomley5581
    @alanbottomley5581 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have to agree on the comments, but I think 37428 is back in action today and there are a lot of spare parts they should keep for the running locos today. BR wasted a lot of money on locos and if they had made the right choices they would look after the right class like 37s and still have a big fleet today

    • @Channel-ij5px
      @Channel-ij5px 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly I pretty sure 37428 was cut up at CF Booths scrap yard in 2013, there is loads of evidence that it was scrapped.
      I wish it wasn’t scrapped as it was my favourite 37.

    This is so sad. I worked in Margam SS, up side Chargeman; Yard Chargeman; knuckle yard/south sidings Chargeman and hump control tower in the 1970s before heading off to Acton and the London division of the WR. So many memories! Do you know which road these loco's and BBA's etc are stabled on please.

    Is there nothing more melancholy than a yard of stored locomotives and rollingstock? Here in Melbourne (Victoria Australia) we have the little used Tottenham Yard - gradually being emptied of rollingstock (rollingstock that must be almost out of gauge with the graffiti on it) that is being scrapped.....cement wagons (not that there is no cement traffic( grain wagons (now that road takes most of the harvest) even the unique 'Ford' vans (now that there is no car manufacturing in Australia) The promise of privatisation lost......thanks for posting the video
