Marino was (past-tense) in the conversation when I was a kid watching him on Sunday, but that basically died when it became the Payton & Tom show for nearly 20 years with Drew Brees sitting on the outside looking in. You need at least 1 ring and insane amount of record breaking to buff it now to even get close to the Top of QB Goat conversation. Right now, it's Tom and then Payton, Mahomes (Im a Bills fan so this pains me deeply), Montana, Staubach, Johnny U, Elway and Brees in any order you like.
@@ThePenitentSquirrel In today's system he'd kill the stats being put up currently. You could slaughter him and his receivers. Adding in the rules today would have opened up the field even more for him. In my book ... 1. Marino, 2. Manning, 3. Brady. I'm rating on QB skill overall and not just rings. Rings require a good team around the QB. Which Marino never had.
Did Lamar Jackson throw for 5 000 yards in 1984 no dan Marino did, he is one of the best quarterbacks ever I agree top three in my opinion especially when it comes to accuracy downfield.
John is say all this because the Ravens organization has put the the bare minimum around a 2 time MVP for 6 year. And now the Ravens wants to act like they are doing everything for Lamar to be the best which is false lol.
What was Michael Jordan record at 27 in the playoffs ? I remember when Mark Jackson said Curry & Klay would be the greatest shooting backcourt in history and the media clowned him ! The kid have played 4 full seasons and he have won 2 MVP’S in those 4 years !
What the hell are you talking about dude do your homework before you make a dumbass comment like that Lamar Jackson has had a top five top 10 defensive every year except for once he has plenty of f****** substantial offensive help Michael Jordan was doing this all on his own.
Much off the playoff failure is on in-game coaching and Harbaugh is owning it without admitting it. Meanwhile Harbaugh's statement puts the pressure on OC Monkton more than Lamar.
It's called gas lighting! Coach H has not done his job while having Lamar and he got out coached by Andy Reid so bad he should have been fired. He like to keep the attention on Lamar so that no one look at his coaching! No one is asking the questions: 1. Why your team ran 5 times 2. Why didn't you make adjustments 3. Why we never saw you talk to your QB 4. Why get Cook, pay him and not use him 5. Why do you continue to fail the team since Flacco days. 6. Why are there similarities between Flacco and Lamar in games and you as the HC! Lamar dark skin is what keep the hate going and avoidance of who the real problem is on that team!
What, a Harbaugh made a hyperbolic complimentary comment about his QB?? 😱😱😱 It must be a day that ends in "day"... This is par for the course guys, but I guess we gotta talk about something because baseball and the Olympics ain't moving the needle.... 🤷
Sounds like Dan doesn’t know the question that was asked which likely would have answered this question but that’s likely the point of Dan wanting to discuss this topic
Dan you are 100% correct! Why do they have to be the next Gretzky, Jordan, Brady, Ruth? Pro level sports is tough enough, so there's no need for added pressure!
Not everyone is Pat or Brady. He didn't look very good in that last season playoff loss to KC. Spags said let's make him pass and put a spy on his running. 😢 MVP was questionable too.
There is an issue with the fact that Lamar is not a great thrower of the ball. He is a reasonable mid-field, in between the hashes, passer. That said, he couldn't throw outside the numbers, specifically towards sidelines, in college, as has not become better at that since he has been in the NFL. Much like Vick, Lamar has not learned to play from the pocket, throwing functional deep balls, thus defenses in the post season simply lock down the middle of the field and dare him to beat them deep, outside. He hasn't done it and there is zero evidence that he is going to. He is a great athlete playing QB, a la Michael Vick/Randall Cunningham/to a lesser degree Dante Culpepper. He is not a great QB who is athletic, a la John Elway/Steve Young/Patrick Mahomes/etc. It is weird that this narrative keeps getting discussed. It is OK to be a very solid NFL player at your respective position, during your era. However, the Ravens are going to be very hard pressed to make it to a SB, much less win it, with Jackson at the helm. QBs have to ultimately make some plays, presnap, at the line, and be able to make defenses play the whole of the field, and he, so far, has not been able to do that.
I find it odd that teams wouldn't play him that way during the regular season. There isn't a "blueprint" to stop Lamar. The ravens keep shooting themselves in the foot in the playoffs. Ex: rushing the ball 6 times with the NFL #1 rushing offense
Why do people still use the term "subpar performance"? All of the golf pros in the recent Open championship would've loved to have subpar performances!
I like both approaches. Downplaying Jackson on one side, and bigging him up on the other. Im sure Harbaugh is forecasting the season of commentary that will happen around him. Might as well put out early high expectations. The other side of the coin is to down play Lamar, and excepting that he doesn't have to be the GOAT technically when it comes to winning and Superbowls. I prefer creating higher bars than lower bars for people with talent and drive such as Lamar Jackson. But to each his own.
