The growing pains of starting a family, growing a business, running a farm, and 10,000 other things in your life. You are doing a great job Cole. Keep your head up.
That’s just it !!!
It's never easy! Keep up the good work.
Good for you, Cole. God loves you
I keep coming back because I love how open and honest Cole is about his faith. Good job sir.
I think restoring your grandparent's home is a great homage to them. Family history is everything!
Pace yourself Cole. Your time is a finite resource. You've gotten a phenomenal amount done to the place in the last 5 years already.
4*
Not really. 4 years? Should have been done by now.
@@shabo857 I meant the farm in general. The house is always the last priority on a farm cos it's not the revenue generator.
@@shabo857 Id love to see what you could achieve in 4 years with all this young mans juggling!
Family is a priority and so is income , hes doing really well so shup!
Cole you made me want to cry talking about your house and you're family. I have no words to describe how great a person you are and how blessed you're family is to have you❤️
God bless you, your child and your wife and the whole rest of your family.
Me too. He’s an awesome young man. His parents must be proud. And Grandfather is smiling on him.
I concur! He’s amazing and such a senses of humor!
You asked my opinion… so here it is. As a nod to your grandpa, keep the gables scalloped and red. Would go great with your gray siding. Look up James Hardie scalloped cement board in Country Lane Red for an example. It’s a nice soft red, and looks like it would coordinate well with your darker woods on porch and current back door color. 😊
... just had a look at that: it’s a lovely classic farm red. Nice.
Lol! Love all your sunglasses!
Great idea. I love that color combination.
I would suggest doing the wiring plumbing and hvac before spraying in foam insulation. All of those things will be harder to do if you insulate first.
That’s a fact. You have to get your systems in the walls before you put in the spray insulation.
@user-ql9pq3oy9q too late a lot was foamed weeks ago
Living in a home full of half finished projects can be very frustrating. I recommend prioritizing finishing a couple projects to boost your morale. You can’t do it all, but having a few things “done” feels really stinkin’ great. That’s what we’re doing around our house.
Cole, we all get sidetracked from time to time. You are a dad and husband which makes it a wonderful opportunity to pray for family. At 73, I'm finally more intentional about prayer each day. Prayers for your business and family. 💗BEST for the future.
Yes, do vinyl shakes for the attic windows. There are shakes that look very real, especially looking from the ground. You don't want to have to paint them, ever. 🥰
U still have to seal shakes,
Hail will bust up vinyl aluminum dents they have steel siding that looks like shakes...
@@karenriggle5435 Hail won't bust vinyl easily.
@@karenriggle5435good point!
Vinyl fades and looks poopie eventually 😅
I miss your sister, she was so enjoyable to watch. If she is okay with it can we get an update on her life also?
I've been following you quite a while and I have always been impressed by your enthusiasm, sense, and your ambition- just watching you grab hold and clean up the farm way back. If anyone can do it you can.
Nothing wrong with pride in ownership! This house holds so much history for your family; breathing life back into it and putting your blood, sweat, and tears into it is just carrying the torch for future generations of Cornstars to care for the property and the land. You’re doing a great job in all you do. We will all be rooting for you and following along for as long as you allow us the pleasure!
Thank god for young hard working farmers like you! Being this young with this much dedication is a very rare gift
Don't beat yourself up, Cole. You have done an incredible job so far. You took a wreck and made it into a grand house. It would be different if you had a dozen people helping you, but you don't. We all respect and admire you for what you're doing, and you WILL reap the rewards. It will just take a little more time. Don't despair!
Thank u Cole. It’s never to late to get back to what’s important.
OH! Starting the day by thanking Him and then asking Him to order your day, before you even get out of bed...makes your day go SOOO much better. You can always tell when you've forgotten because there are little stumbling block that come up, not to late to just stop and ask His help.😍
Thanks for the extra effort of making these videos on top of working the family farms. Always stoked to see your content, tell the entire CornStar family they're appreciated!
Extra effort?
You have seen he has been AFK for ,like, ever yeah?
😜
And its not even an hour long as recompense🤣 😂 🙃
@@faenorsjewel5618you know how exausting kids can be?
Yes, absolutely..
Content always appreciated when it comes along! Thanks Cornstar family!
You're absolutely right about the only thing that matters. I've lost track of that before, but I have a great relationship with the Lord now. I'm abundantly thankful for the man who helped guide me back. 🤵💒👰♂️
Cole, I am still working on my house after moving in 30 years ago. You do what you can with the money you have & patience young man. You’ll get there with your vision & goals!
I first started watching this channel because of the renovations to the house but since then I have learnt so much about some of the ins and outs of the day to day life of a corn farmer. I enjoy following along
The shakes around the windows- I'd go with the same red color that's on the door you showed us. Vinyl would be best and longest lasting. Definitely get that insultation done FIRST. I mean ALL the insulation. It'll help your heating and cooling bill! Farm is looking great! Best of luck going into harvest!
Yes same color as the red door!
Don't know where you get all the energy Cole, but love watching you and your family work on the farm cleanup, planting crops and always improving things. The house plans are wonderful and thank you for taking us along, great to see Justin/son again too and more of Cooper and Summer. I would love to see the color same as Door and Porch, did you say Redish tint? Summer has the eye for this, trust her....
It is very honorable that you want to build it all by your self, but once in a while there is nothing wrong with occasionally subbing somethings out. Time is very precious !
don't forget you are a new father and spouse. give yourself a BREAK! you are awesome!!!!!!! don't stress too much. you are such an amazing young man
I really appreciate the update on the house. Hopefully you can get the outside stuff done that the weather could affect. God bless you for all you do for your family & the heritage of the farm. I’m throughly enjoying watching you & your young family grow.
I got hooked on your channel originally because I am also in the midst of remodeling a 100 yr. old farmhouse in Iowa. Two thoughts I hope might be helpful to you:
1) The gables on our house also have cedar shakes. We are going to cover them with “cedar shake” siding panels from 3M. The base siding on the house will be a taupe color (3M product also), so we chose to have the shake panels several shades darker than the rest of the siding. It is in the same color family so it blends very well with the rest of the house but is different enough to give a nice “pop” to the gables. That color and texture contrast will add a lot of character to the house.
2) We are doing a deep renovation to this home (i.e., electric, plumbing, walls, floors, windows, etc.) similar to what you are doing. This farm has been in my wife’s family since the 1800’s so I can relate to your desire to “do it with you own hands”. However, life has a way of getting in the way of the best project plans. My three-year plan is quickly turning into a five-year plan! So, my advice (if I may be so bold) is to be patient. It took decades for your house (and mine…) to get in the condition they are in, so it stands to reason that it might take some time to bring them back to pristine condition.
skip the panels and just do real shakes. It is a DIY job, but labor intensive. Find a This old House episode or 5 on how to do them. This from a 35 year coastal builder. No paint. Use Red or White cedar depending on local pricing
Cole your doing a great job farming, being a dad ,loyal son , I admire everything you do it's rockin!!!
Hi Cole my great grandfather was German. He had a dream to build his family a house. They lived in a barn whilst he built the house with his own two hands only being helped with the heavy stuff. It took him nearly 3 years but it was a big magnificent house with three floors a cellar and attic and a pig sty and wash kitchen. He also ran his farm at same time. A farm we now have taken over. If you're not afraid of hard work the world is your oyster. You have the same grit as my grandparents did .
Cole, you and your family are an inspiration. I hope you realize the important work you are doing, not only the farming but teaching us about the American dream. I appreciate all that you do. God bless you.
It is a Labor of Love to build your own home. Running a farm is a 24/7 business. You did a great job spreading rock. So sorry about the wind damage in the corn field. Hug to you and your family. See you next time.
I originally started watching this channel because of the work on the house shortly after your grandfather passed. Glad to see you back at it.
I understand how you feel. Renovating an old house can be so overwhelming and time consuming. My husband and I did it and got burned out.
It's called Pride of ownership Cole and you want to be part of the work not just a hired contractor doing the work and you have a young family running a business time management is tough but you will figure it out Cole ! Just make sure family time is important! Great video thanks for sharing!
God bless you and all farmers! Me and my full stomach say Thank You!
May GOD bless Cole to joyfully keep working super hard for his beautiful family, amen!!!!!
Cole, glad to hear you're going to start back on the house. That was what brought me to your channel to begin with. I stuck with you being amazed by your fortitude and hard work in continuing your family's legacy. I definitely understand priorities change in one's life and with you starting a family of your own those priorities will continue to change. Keep up the great work and if you live by the creed, "God, family, friends and country" in that order you will be happy and succeed in life.
Cole the situation with the house it can b extremely overwhelming but will be well worth it when it is finished. Hopefully the whole family is doing well. And keep up the great work on the content as time allows it which with young kids isnt the easiest some times.
bring in a crew to hang the drywall. they will knock it out way faster and are used to any weird cuts, etc. you can do the finish.
Great update on the mansion restoration. We do understand how busy you are.
I know a guy who used to say, there ain't nothing to it but to do it.
But there actually is a lot more to it, eh ? 😉
Planning is a big part of it and it looks like you're doing a good job with that. 👍
From an old guy to a young man. You seem to have a wise head on your shoulders. Keep it up. 😊
Cole, how refreshing to see how you value your prayer time. May God bless you!
Man I know the exact feeling. I have a super small farm compared to yours and a trucking company. We have also been renovating two houses for a while. It takes a lot of time and a lot of money. My wife and I have also done it all. It is a special experience to put hands on every piece of it. I would suggest the shakes being the "lava rock" color. Would be a nice touch.
You definitely should get the siding finished even if it’s the only thing you finish this year I feel ya on cost and being busy but that’s a very important thing to protect your house and your insurance company can drop your insurance if they want to it’s in the fine print they got my father that way while he was fixing up his house
I knew it, when I found your channel it kept making me smile and have joy in my heart. Without you saying anything out loud about our precious Saviour I heard. Blessings
U brought tears to my eyes when u were talking about ur house, that's endearing to see how much u love ur family's farm
Cole, I feel ya. The order of operations is overwhelming when doing a major project. The main project is actually 300 small projects.
Wonderful video! Your house is indeed an absolute masterpiece. That includes the magnificent wood floors. It's incredible that they're still in such great condition. To tear those out would be tragic, they're part of your family's heritage and the legacy your great grandpa left you. It's easy to patch, and is done often. It's impossible to recreate those now as it would take many skilled craftsmen so much time, the cost of the wood would be immense, that it would just not be possible. You have a treasure. Don't destroy it to have the same, ordinary flooring that everyone else has.
I have a friend like Justin, his name is Jade. Jade start his own carpentry/contracting company a few years ago. Jade said "I wouldn't have started my own company it wasn't for your old man". Pops told Jade you should start your own company because I'll hire you or anyone you hire that fit your status to hire to work on my house or farm every hours, day or weeks you're not working on someone else's project.
Jade said "your dad told me what my dad would tell me if he was still live RIP 'Randall'. "Do your best, You're, you're better than the rest and you'll never go hungry a day in your life.
The world needs more hard-working farmers and Carpenters like Justin and Jade.
Cedar shakes will naturally weather to a nice silvery gray, dont need paint, just need replaced occasionally. That or the indestructible material of your choice in the same color as the side door, ruddy red.
That's what I say!
Cole, you are an amazing young man, with an equally amazing family! Keep up the good work. Your rewards will be many❣️
Cole. Keep up the good work. Continue to maintain your good sense of priorities. The house is a worthy project, but just as it has been there for a 100 years, it will still be there if it takes a little more time to remodel it. Eventually, you will sit on the porch and enjoy a cold drink while you watch the afternoon thunderstorm come in. As you stated, so much of your family depends upon the priority work being done. And your later comments about faith and relationship with Jesus are so, so right. It is amazing when we let the Lord help us with our problems. He is always faithful - "I will be with you always, even until the end."
Cole … reminder - we are all on this earth for a “limited time”. Take priority for yourself, your special lady and baby corn. Family first and all else will get finished in due time. Your an amazing young man with smart planing and ambition. Life is not about our accomplishments, but the journey we take to get things done.
Deep red would really pop! Plus, it’s actually historically more accurate for the age of the house. The house looks like a Victorian farmhouse style. Everyone does black with gray,
We always like seeing you and the family. You make such a difference to some off us seeing your work 9n the farms listening to your dad and his stories and you and your little family. I also like seeing your brother and his working on the lorries and harvesting the grass. What I am saying is it is always nice to see your videos and I look forward to seeing them. You make me understand farming more and how much it costs for things. So please Cole keep it up looking forward to seeing the videos and really enjoy listening to you.
If you have the option of a different color rock for the parking area you should highly consider it. Making it intuitive as to what is a driveway and what is a parking area.
You and your family are truly blessed, and definitely the salt of the earth., God bless! ❤
Cole your faith is your strength, nurturer it along with your health. keep up the good work. Cheers to you and your family,
I recommend a color that used to be extremely popular in the 70s called “harvest gold” for your attic shakes. It‘s a beautiful color that will really stand out on cold, gray winter days and it will look great in the summer too. It’s basically yellow with a little red added to give it an a gold, or more accurately a very, very slight orange hue. There are probably at least 2 or 3 commercials options at Home Depot that could be called “harvest gold”.
It’s very common in Russia for people to paint their homes in rural areas with bright colors. I assume that they do it because it provides a nice contrast to the otherwise depressing, extremely long and usually colorless, gray winter weather. So, that’s my recommendation for ya for the attic shakes!
may God continue to bless you and the Cornstar family
A family home like that is an investment in both your past and future! It all takes time.
Hey Cole if you read this, Light Cans are old school. Go with LED Pucks. Easy to install cheap to operate and will last for years.
Personally, I would want those attic windows to POP. A brighter shade of green would drawn the eye but red would bring your eye to that detail and set off the siding.
Gratifying might be what you're looking for,
It's awesome you're spending the time on the house the right way.
It's pride too, doing things yourself brings fourth a sense of pride, and that feels good too.
Keep on keeping on man!!
Cole, I love that you are getting back to the Lord. I was concerned since you hadn’t said anything about how important it is to pray and stay in his word. It make me happy to hear this. Now that you have your own little family, it’s so important. Roger K from northern Kentucky.
I began watching your channel because I really enjoy the time-lapse of you clearing your land and improving things. I know the house restoration is extremely expensive. I understand that doing all you can with the restoration is important to you, and that also helps with the expense. I would recommend getting the outside buttoned up before winter or you might need to replace things you've already replaced. Through experience, I've also learned to "just get it done. " 😊❤
While I loved watching the house restoration, I completely understand. Having grown up on a farm, I completely get it. There are never enough hours in the day. Good luck in all your endeavors.
Yeah, brick red for the attic shakes. Vinyl is fine, you won't be able to tell from the ground. Purists may disagree, but, last longer, less maintenance.
You truly do have a lot on your plate. You are doing fine, and most of us are not worried about whether you will get things done in your timing. Best to you and your family.
Love you and all that I can learn about farming. Thank you so much. I’m old enough to be your grandmother and I love every moment I see you and your family. You guys are the best.
Cole, your just the best guy ever! Mom and dad are so blessed to call you son. ❤️
Keep it simple. Either vinyl fish scale or vinyl cedar shingle for 3rd floor. As far as colors go, again keep it simple either dark charcoal gray or white. White is classic. Cement board, though a great product it would need to be painted.
Make a list when something comes to mind. It will relieve your mind even though it’s not done. When a project is done and scratched off the list it feels good! 💙
It’s a heart thing, heart for your grandpa, your family and heart for the house 💜
Loved what you said about greatness. When you hit an obstacle, you don't let it stop you. I needed to move half my garage for electrical work. and instead of getting down took the opportunity to make my work area better.
Thanks for the update Cole. I like that your thinking ahead on the maintenance free of the eves and very high places. And it’s always good to keep your foot in the work that is being done. Everything depends on a functioning of the ROOF, so you can continue on working on the inside. Best of luck to you, Nave, and the family.😊❤️
I have the same problem on my channel. I have like six major projects started, and the same thing happened - other things popped-up that took precedence. I arrange them into playlists so even if I am off of a project for months, people can still see all of the videos in order. Just do things when you have the time to do them. People will wait 😊
If you just stop and think about how the farm looked just a couple of years ago, you would realise how much you have improved the whole farm, your an inspiration to a lot of ppl,
Cole, I have no doubt that you will finish your remodel/ restoration of Grandpas farmhouse, you are a mover and a shaker. You have accomplished so much and you will continue to bring your plan to fruition. Thanks for the update and for taking us along on the journey. I am partial to the red colored shakes by the way.
Love your little family. Thank you for sharing all you do.
You are no good to anyone if you overdo it. Let Justin finish your house and stay out of his way. Your wife and son need a safe and comfortable house now, not 2-3 years from now.......
Your crops are looking awesome. Maybe a bumper crop. You will be able to buy a third used hagie so you and your dad and brother all can spray your few thousand acres you farm at the same time. It will be great.
There was a lot of family living that has gone on in your home. I can imagine there's a real sense of protecting that priceless family history, as well as adding your own family history to the house.
The chimney against the roof looks nice...why not consider red cedar shingles. There should be an app where you take a photograph of your house and then apply various colored shingles where you want to see which you think works best.
So much to do!
What a lot you have accomplished. Looking forward for house improvements. ❤😀👋
Cole that’s a huge house and will take time! It took you 5 years to clean up the property, Justin is right, you need to protect what you’ve already done outside soffits and the money you’ll save on heating and cooling will be enormous!! You said along time ago, your doing all this out of love and respect for the heritage grandpa left you all. Ask God to help you with your patients!!
Because of this channel I keep a close watch on the weather in Iowa and think about the farmers.
What’s your channel for 10 years cole and it’s still awesome. Really love you. You’re a really cool guy.😊
New to the channel, love the vids, i have zero knowledge of farming, but stil you and Nave are so entertaining to watch😊
Love to the whole Cornstar Family. God bless y'all.
You're a wise young man. Cole, everything you do will work out fine.
God bless you, your family, and the farm. Definitely good to hear about the pivot to getting back to prayer more.
The smartest thing you can ever do is accept that you need experts to help to make things work out. Getting the structure worked out goes a long way to making things work out properly. Keep rolling!
Sounds like you are right on track... Planning takes time. Better to think it over twice than forging forth once blindly! Will you be having an office in the new addition too?
You'll get it done. We put off projects when buying lumber became a terrifying experience.
There is better supply and adjustment to costs.
A timeline also gets redone with a new edition. Eddie is so cute!
Crazy that I first started watching your channel because of this house restoration. And now I know way too much about corn farms
Regarding the electrical in your home, my advice is to have a new breaker panel installed (oversized for the furure) start feeding any new circuits to the new panel, feed your existing panel from the new. As time goes on you can slowly eliminate the old wiring and eventually get rid of the old panel. I made the mistake of trying to work with the old panel and then when the time came some wires were a little too short and ended up with junction boxes near the panel and it does meet code in my area, however I dont like the way it looks and wound up being more work in the long run.
Cole, thank you for the video-you and your family are amazing and you don’t need to explain-fully understand best laid plans ❤️
Cole just remember to breathe. You and your family are doing a great job.😊
Looking good, but keep a slow but steady pace, and suddenly you see it DONE!! I would get ALL the outside buttoned up and completed before Winter, so you dont lose any of what's been done. And, include ALL the insulating with that. You got this!! Sending love and prayers!! 🥰🙏
Cole I'm so proud of you and your family!! Putting the Lord first is the very best you can do for you and your family!! As my father would say blessings on you!!! Pam
Cole...please go back and look at all you have completed...cleaned up etc! I understand exactly! Ps...your son and your wife take time too! It will come!
Sometimes it is very difficult to do so many things at once. Work on your priorities it will work out! You are so good at projects.
And your wife is a wonderful woman who has many abilities to be on your side. I know baby duties are tops on the list for both of you.
But you have many friends and family to help you out at any time.
I get so much satisfaction watching you all ….so much entertainment and best wishes.
I originally subscribed because of your house videos. Since then I’ve gotten so much education and enjoyment from watching you, I’m hooked. I would like to see more on the house when you get to it. I’d like to see those blue prints for example!
