  • This is a submission for MinnMax's Doc Lightning mini documentary event.
A peek into 84 hashi, a hidden cafe run by former Nintendo employee Toru Hashimoto. Originally a members only cafe for people in the gaming industry, Hashimoto recently opened it up for tourists where they can chat with Hashimoto and see dozens of one of a kind Nintendo memorabilia.

Man you always put out such interesting content. I'd love to try and find this someday. It looks great. I'm sure it was a great experience for you.
Also I see that you've fully integrated into Japanese society by audibly grunting every few seconds while listening to your conversation partner 🤣. Just like in Korean, and especially when my wife speaks, if I don't do this she will ask me if I'm listening 😂😂😂

Thanks for sharing your experience and overview. Do you think it would be worth booking a tour even for someone with limited or no Japanese speaking ability? I'd love to try to visit, but wondering if the high cost is worth it without being able to personally engage with Hashimoto or the other staff members.

Totally! They have English speaking staff and the newly opened public tour is heavily geared towards visitors outside Japan, so they are definitely prepared for English speaking guests!
