As a member of the 627 Blue Crew from 1970 thru 1977 this brings back fond memories of SSBN life and the great crews we had. Most memorable were the actual launches we did during the two DASO operations I was on board for. In closing, there is also the great reunions of our families, like a brand new honeymoon with each port return!

I remember this! Funny how things seem to show up on TH-cam, when you least expect them. Go Navy. It's not just a job, it's an adventure.

On my SSNs we didn't even have three days worth of fresh produce - converted Chill Box to Freezer/ Reefer for more steaks and other stuff.

Been there, done that. Assigned to 616 in '78, 3 DPs out of site 1 & 1 out of King's Bay, then went to a Thresher (oops, Permit) class fast boat. I have rate training manuals that still smell like boat if you open them & stick your face in. I think I recognized 2 of the guys in the film, but it's been over 40 years so who can tell for sure.

The Captain personally screened all family grams (famgrams) for anything that could cause a problem for the sailor. Such as a "Dear John", or mom just committed suicide, etc. I know lots of sailors came home to an empty house. The wife was gone and the place was rented to someone else completely. Marriage was not the smartest thing to do.

Hell, back then there were no such thing as PT. The only time there was , was during a pub crawl in Dunoon. We had a sonar chief as big as Baloo the bear. He slipped over the side tying up. They used the brow crane to pull him out. And when he came through the hatch, it would change the ventilation flow. Beards, making homemade wine for halfway night, smoking on board. Stealing the XO's door. 4 knots to nowear. Getting caught in fishing nets while in the North Sea. And the Dunoon Dollies. Fresh fish and chips, and warm bear. And don't forget the F____book turnover. What a time to be a boomer fag. MMC/SS AGANG RET. 1974 TO 1997.
