epiphany is a weird song for me but i hold it close to my heart because folklore came out the day i joined the army and i was TERRIFIED but when i saw the tracklist i claimed epiphany and with the first verse being about a soldier at war, it felt like the universe telling me i was doing the right thing
Here's an idea! Taylor Swift announces a world tour tomorrow. Come up with a setlist that would be YOUR best case scenario (if you had full control over the tour), and then come up with a more REALISTIC setlist that may be closer to what we actually get.
His NightmRe senario would be ME! As a starter, followed by stay stay stay, you need to calm down, kind of my heart, a place in this world, i know places, change, superman, the lucky one, paper rings, daylight, epiphany, and Dorothea.
Somehow Taylor is not something you outgrow. I’m 72, yes it’s a little embarrassing but as long as she keeps making better and better music I will keep listening. My first exposure to Taylor was the Teardrops video. What I saw was a young girl being exploited. Changed my mind and jumped into her discography after seeing her perform ATW on the Grammys. Love your insights into the early years I missed
taylor really really needs to do rock/punk versions of some of her songs tbh.. i mean we've seen the rock version of we are never ever getting back together and we know that she's covered songs like untouchable in fearless and i believe covered neon trees in concert so she's def been interested
For a future video idea: I'd be curious about your thoughts on all of the album covers. Especially with the rerecords, it's interesting to see what changes and what stays the same for each era.
ugh I'm literally DYING to do this video but I cannot get my hands on incredible things. might have to just speak on it from memory, I still have the box
HAHAHA the thread between those songs is that they’re dripping in honey happy LOL like cavity-inducing forced bop happiness! i adore paper rings and vibe w king of my heart and think stay 3x is cute but dorothea is too happy without being rooted in reality (obvs, bc it’s a story) for me to enjoy.
i absolutely agree on lover being taylors weakest album. its not that bad but its definitely not the best one and i will never understand swifties on tiktok that are attacking people for putting lover lower on their ranking lists. ps i LOVEE your podcast :) !
re the 1989 vaults - where does the idea that there were 100 songs written for 1989 come from? I feel like it’s similar to the “10 minute ATW” urban legend…but I also think it’s possible that she was SO manically determined to write the album of her career that she wrote at least 10 more songs (not 100). whether she would be willing to release those songs is another matter…
I actually have no idea. my knowledge of taylor's history is pretty encyclopaedic, and I can't even place where that came from. it usually comes from rep stans lmao but I'd like to see the evidence of her saying that
THANKS for the i know places hate, i also hate it because growing up my parents hated taylor so i wasnt allowed to heard 1989 i only knew the radio hits and one day they decided i could listen to the whole album when i got back from school and that day at school we had indoor recess and the teach put a FIVE NIGHTS AND FREDDYS DANCE GONOODLE VIDOE with i know places as the "music" for it she was like 'this song fits the vibe of the video its my fav song from the new ts album" and in that moment I wanted to kms and i almost didnt want to hear the album because of how much that traumatized me and now i cant unhear it.
I disagree with a lot of your worst songs per album (except Lover’s Me’ because that was an attack on us) but that’s okay because your delivery is iconic as per usual! Do you think she will release a perfume line (TV) during Speak Now re-recording?
GODDD I fucking hope so. I bet she won't. We might get a wonderstruck scented candle on the merch store? But idk how that would work, seeing as how Elizabeth Arden owns the IP for her fragrances
i think the most controversial and unpopular opinion i have is that this is why we can’t have nice things is severely underrated. it’s my favorite song from rep. i also rank rep second to last out of all her albums bc i find i skip so many songs on it. ready for it, end game, so it goes, new year’s day, gorgeous (sometimes), all skips
Ooh also Paper Rings and Dorothea are both in the same key and follow nearly the same chord progression, except Dorothea uses G where Paper Rings uses Bm. Maybe you don’t like the tones of the progression in that key - it’s kinda interesting that even though the vibes of those songs are different, they’re melodically similar!
i really like hearing your opinions about songs even if i don't necessarily agree with them so i'm sorry that you get actual hate for them omg 😭 you singlehandedly opened my eyes to the brilliance of if this was a movie so like !!!! keep speaking your truths they're always entertaining
The king of my heart bridge is so catchy though. It's one of those songs that I wouldn't care for otherwise but the bridge is so life giving that I have to like it.
Speak Now Supremacy. Dear John (Taylor's Version) is sponsoring my Kleenex box budget in preparation and I have 911 on stand by because I don't think I'm going to make it through Speak Now (TV) in one piece. Especially not if Safe and Sound/Eye's Open are vault tracks (I don't see why they wouldn't be).
Funny enough, I agree with all your dislikes. As much as I love Taylor and her amazing lyrics, the songs you mentioned you don’t like probably resonates with her a lot more but not for me personally. I’ve read somewhere about a theory on Dorothea. Apparently it’s about her friendship with Selena as that’s her favourite character from the Wizard of Oz. Not sure how truthful that is but that made me like the song more! Love your channel btw! I really appreciate how you can be so vocal about your thoughts and your criticalness!!
PAPER RING IS A GOOD SONG OH MY GODDDDD. Stop the slander! It’s literally romcom pop rock perfection 😭😭😭 it’s NOT on stayx3 category. Stay x3 was youtube ukelele Music! Paper ring is serotonin booster.
Ty for answering my question on future genres :) I agree - would love to see some rock vibes from Taylor. I think it would be a good way to transition away from pop princess as she matures. I also think the rock genre could be quite diverse for her - it could include pop rock as you mentioned, pop punk (which could go down well, given how popular Olivia Rodrigo’s good 4 u has been) and some rock folk, which would link to evermore.
Taylor literally doesn't have a bad song. I mean come-on now! All the worst songs he mentioned are my legit favorite gems. A place in this world, superman, the lucky one???!! Girl, u have no taste sorry 😭

I just thought I'd throw it out there... I love Daylight - it's no where near my favorite on the album, but I do love it - and I'm an OG fan. I've been listening to her music since Tim McGraw dropped on CMT.
i feel like a good title if her debut wasn't self titled would be Butterfly since that's a huge visual in the debut era and because shes going through teenage hood till she bursts out of her cocoon like a butterfly
@@liz.a314 haha I can hear what you mean with ‘wary’; the only reason I don’t think it’s that is because that doesn’t sound as much like a Taylor Swift lyric.

Maybe it’s because they have this weird brightness that kinda feels awkward and almost unsettling? to me Idk why. Taylor’s brighter-feel songs like Fearless, Today Was A Fairytale, Enchanted (still in shock 6-y.o me was right about this being the underdog of the decade she just got the decade wrong), etc. are usually my favourites off an album so maybe I also just judge those songs harsher and therefore dislike stay x3, paper rings, dorothea and komh and all that more than the average Swiftie?
Apparently we're like a month apart in age! I have the same memories with 1989's release (as couple months before my 18th birthday) and I experienced the 1989 tour right before moving away to college... Seriously such a moment, such a vibe.
I agree with you on King Of My Heart. I want to like that song but the "King of my heart, body and soul" completely takes me out of the song and I feel like the addition of body and soul is super weird. It would've been fine just leaving it at king of my heart.
Our opinions are so different (affectionate) but you did justice to I Think He Knows in your Lover video and you are so correct about I Know Places so we’re ok we’re good 🙏💋
Wait but isn’t Superman about John Mayer?? Like the chorus line “I loved you from the very first day” is the secret message to Dear John, John has a song where he says “I wanna be Superman”, also the lines “I hope you don’t take some other girl” and “I’m lovestruck” - I don’t think those would be directed at her dad? Lol But I’ve seen some people say the song could have multiple meanings/be directed at multiple people so maybe it’s that!
Am I the only one that actually likes 'A Place In This World'? 😂 it is very Disney-ish tbf but at the age that I was when I first heard it, I loved those songs and even now the nostalgia creeps in so I actually do unironically really like it 😂 the song I don't mind eliminating on Debut would probably be 'The Outside' On Fearless for me, it's a tough one but probably 'Breathe' cause I just think it's forgettable Speak Now - Innocent (really hasn't aged well) Red - Stay Stay Stay (btw I don't think it's an unpopular opinion to not like that one loool, I've mostly just seen hate for it ngl) 1989 - I know this is an unpopular opinion but I honestly just don't understand the hype for AYHTDWS 😂 I just think it's boring and a bit annoying Reputation - Probably Ready For It or End Game just so she'd pick better songs as singles lol Lover - ME! (no contest) although there's probably a fair amount of songs I would be ready to cut out of the tracklist 😂also as a fan since like Fearless, I have to say I like Daylight 🤧 I get your point about it seeming forced but also the sound is nice and that throwback to Red felt special at the time, and also when I first listened to Lover I was pretty disappointed so this was actually one of the 4 or 5 highlights for me Folklore - While I agree Taylor should stay out of politics, I actually think this was really well-executed in Epiphany, it's not forced and it's inspired by her grandfather as well as the situation we were in at the time. I'm in the UK which was very badly hit by Covid and every day the number of deaths from Covid would be announced on TV in the evening, and at one point it was over 1000 deaths per day. Our healthcare system couldn't handle the number of cases and doctors and nurses saw nothing but death and grief every day. It was honestly extremely depressing, scary, and did feel like a war of sorts, so the parallel to war makes perfect sense. A song I would cut from this album might be Invisible String - it's cute but now that Mastermind's out I think it's negated 😂 Evermore - maybe the title track, I've listened to it the least Now that Midnights is out I wonder what your answer for that would be (I place my bets on The Great War? loool) but for me, the song I would cut would be Glitch, I just don't vibe with it
hi i’ve just been over here binging your videos but the “if this was a movie” rant you did about the bridge is something i’ve thought about for so long. like the lyrics i sing are based off the lyrics online but i agree that no one actually knows what she’s saying including me so thank you for reigniting that fire inside me lol 😂
can you explain this to me?? i have never had any problem feeling like i understand the lyrics- never looked them up or anything bc i felt like they were easy to hear and understand - which is the section ppl are confused about?
im curious too. Also, from what i remember, i thought the song Superman was about John, but im not sure. Even if it wasnt about him, theres a video where she explains that she was in love with this guy, she thought so highly of him and everytime he went away, it felt like she was watching Superman fly away... or smth like that.
Could you do an ‘objectively best song from each album’? Mine is: Teardrops on My Guitar Love Story Dear John ATW10 Blank Space CIWYW Cruel Summer my tears ricochet RWYLM
@@theswiftologist fair calls! Rep and Speak Now were difficult ones; the top spot changes significantly depending on the way I’m ranking, which is not so much the case for other albums. If I rank songs as: - objectively best (as above- Dear John and CIWYW) - most iconic/groundbreaking (Mine and LWYMMD) - ones I revisit the most (Sparks Fly and Dress)
As for your list of least favorite songs - a common thread I see is that most of them are more happy/hopeful tracks? I don’t think that means you dislike happy music, but rather that Taylor may be better at writing melancholy music, or that she’s more practiced at exercising that muscle.
I LOVE king of my heart but am not a fan of paper rings, stayx3, or dorthea but rep is my fav album so KOMH might be an exception. I’ve been a swiftie since 08 and I feel like I’m not the biggest fan of the “bleep bloop” songs because I just feel like the most genuine songs that we’ve seen from her have some sort of insight or indication that explains why she is so appreciative of the happiness or details that have very universal experiences that allow us to connect to them more. Eg: lover with the Christmas lights, begin again with the first date, they all feel like they are sourced from a feeling not a specific situation. The genuine happiness and personal details can make the happy gel pen songs feel hard to relate to and love because of this crazy high standard she’s set with her music. It’s strange because none of them are bad songs it’s just our favorites are usually our favorites because of every way we relate to them and the “bleep bloop” songs feel like the antithesis of why we love the ones we love. Paper rings especially to me is just kind of in happy this was made of my happiness and I’m in this space so I can’t even see negativity or any experience other than my own (which is awesome!). Sorry for the ramble, love the channel :)
you mentioned plastic hearts. do you like miley’s plastic hearts album?? i’ve been a swiftie since fearless era and i recently listened to plastic hearts and loved itttt. i feel like swifties and miley fans don’t really overlap but i was wondering what you thought of that album
I feel so validated and seen as I sit with my spreadsheet of album rankings and my last songs on each are: Debut: A Place In This World, A Perfectly Good Heart Fearless: Untouchable, Jump Then Fall Speak Now: Superman Red: Stay Stay Stay 1989: All You Had To Do Was Stay, I Know Places Reputation: Endgame Lover: Paper Rings folklore: Seven Evermore: Cowboy Like Me
For me: Fearless: Change Speak Now: Superman Red: The Lucky One 1989: Bad Blood Reputation: This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things Lover: ME! Folklore: Seven Evermore: No Body, No Crime Midnights: Vigilante Sh*t I skipped Debut because I haven't listened to it all the way through. When I got into Taylor, I was excited to listen to Speak Now, Red, and 1989. Fearless TV came out a few weeks later, so I forgot Debut existed (no pun intended). I think all the singles from Debut are pretty good, though, and I actually like A Place in This World.
yes, chemtrails is so good! I agree with most of your worst song picks, except I actually like A Place in This World, I Know Places and King of my Heart. I think you said it before yourself, the songs you don't like contain some sort of unbridled enthusiasm that makes you embarrassed for her haha
I'm a big fan of Taylor's right now, and I just listened to "If This Was A Movie" (Taylor's Version AND the Speak Now Deluxe version) (which both came out before this video) and to me, I have no trouble distinguishing every word she says in the bridge in Taylor's Version. It seems like she doesn't pronounce "day" in "everyday" or "every day" in the original, but I'd venture to say her technique of pronunciation or breath control was not as developed as it was 10 years later. I think this theory can just be disproven because one with even fair hearing can clearly and objectively hear every word she says in ITWAM TV.
8:13 the tie between Stay Stay Stay, KOMH, Paper Rings, and Dorothea is twee. They're all (to some degrees more so than others) laced (KOMH & Dorothea) or doused (Stay Stay Stay & Paper Rings) with twee. They're all on their manic pixie dream girl Zooey Deschanel vintage dresses 2012 BS. (ngl though I go hard for Dorothea and Stay Stay Stay oopsie)
Is there a reason you’re invested and care/ know the most about Taylor not just the artist but also the person ? Is it just cause she seems the most interesting compared to everyone else and is obviously the biggest or is it just cause she’s your favourite musician?
@@theswiftologist agreed i’m gonna be interested to see if we will see the same kind of emotion w the speak now re recordings and john mayer not that she should be doing any charity for his ass !!
Ok wait, I'm sorry, do you think Superman is about her father??? I love this song and I know how you feel about it (you've mentioned your thoughts on it in SEVERAL videos lmao) and of course you're allowed to not like it, but it is definitely not about Scott...it's about John Mayer because the secret message in Dear John is "loved you from the very first day" which is a lyric in Superman. You can also just tell it's not about her father because she sings about the man in question in a romantic manner. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy comment, I just like Superman and I've never heard anyone think it's about her dad, so I wanted to clear that misconception ig
Yes! I was yelling at the screen when he said it was about her dad. I've known from other videos he didn't like the song, but this is the first mention I've heard him say it was about her dad. (I'm binging backwards). "Wishing the flowers were from you, wishing the card was from you, wishing the call was from you" is definitely not about her father.
You should tier rank all of her attempts to be an actress from “bad” to “extremely traumatizing”.

Lol
But I’ve seen some people say the song could have multiple meanings/be directed at multiple people so maybe it’s that!
All You Had To Do Was Stay trauma solidarity 🙃
As a fellow old timer Swiftie, I am so thrilled to have found your channel and subscribed
Am I the only one that actually likes 'A Place In This World'? 😂 it is very Disney-ish tbf but at the age that I was when I first heard it, I loved those songs and even now the nostalgia creeps in so I actually do unironically really like it 😂 the song I don't mind eliminating on Debut would probably be 'The Outside'
On Fearless for me, it's a tough one but probably 'Breathe' cause I just think it's forgettable
Speak Now - Innocent (really hasn't aged well)
Red - Stay Stay Stay (btw I don't think it's an unpopular opinion to not like that one loool, I've mostly just seen hate for it ngl)
1989 - I know this is an unpopular opinion but I honestly just don't understand the hype for AYHTDWS 😂 I just think it's boring and a bit annoying
Reputation - Probably Ready For It or End Game just so she'd pick better songs as singles lol
Lover - ME! (no contest) although there's probably a fair amount of songs I would be ready to cut out of the tracklist 😂also as a fan since like Fearless, I have to say I like Daylight 🤧 I get your point about it seeming forced but also the sound is nice and that throwback to Red felt special at the time, and also when I first listened to Lover I was pretty disappointed so this was actually one of the 4 or 5 highlights for me
Folklore - While I agree Taylor should stay out of politics, I actually think this was really well-executed in Epiphany, it's not forced and it's inspired by her grandfather as well as the situation we were in at the time. A song I would cut from this album might be Invisible String - it's cute but now that Mastermind's out I think it's negated 😂
Evermore - maybe the title track, I've listened to it the least
Now that Midnights is out I wonder what your answer for that would be (I place my bets on The Great War? loool) but for me, the song I would cut would be Glitch, I just don't vibe with it
Actually Taylor planned to name her first album "A Place In This World" but then she came up with the idea of just calling it Taylor Swift
Why do people keep coming into my comment section and telling me stuff I already know as if it’s brand new information
hi i’ve just been over here binging your videos but the “if this was a movie” rant you did about the bridge is something i’ve thought about for so long. like the lyrics i sing are based off the lyrics online but i agree that no one actually knows what she’s saying including me so thank you for reigniting that fire inside me lol 😂
can you explain this to me?? i have never had any problem feeling like i understand the lyrics- never looked them up or anything bc i felt like they were easy to hear and understand - which is the section ppl are confused about?
the stay stay stay / paper rings / dorothea annoying melodies are valid tho
I really wanna see your block list 😂😭 some swifties be crazy
Omg please make a little mix video I love them
When I saw her throw the chair (watching her Netflix doc in 2011) I became a Swiftie
Also she inspired me to pick up instruments :) and write songs and a paint fearlessly 💕
Netflix was a thing already in 2011? It feels surreal seeing someone say they used it back in 2011 😅
@@taeminislove oh honey, netflix used to be a mail-in dvd rent service
So agree with the change/long live comment!
GENUINE QUESTION : What’s the tea with her dad Scott? Is he shady???
This is what I came to the comments to ask as well! What tf do people hate about Scott?!
im curious too.
Mine is:
Teardrops on My Guitar
Love Story
Dear John
ATW10
Blank Space
CIWYW
Cruel Summer
my tears ricochet
RWYLM
Tbh I mostly agree with you! I might switch up Dear John for Mine, and CIWYW for Delicate
@@theswiftologist fair calls! Rep and Speak Now were difficult ones; the top spot changes significantly depending on the way I’m ranking, which is not so much the case for other albums. If I rank songs as:
- objectively best (as above- Dear John and CIWYW)
- most iconic/groundbreaking (Mine and LWYMMD)
- ones I revisit the most (Sparks Fly and Dress)
As for your list of least favorite songs - a common thread I see is that most of them are more happy/hopeful tracks? I don’t think that means you dislike happy music, but rather that Taylor may be better at writing melancholy music, or that she’s more practiced at exercising that muscle.
I was SO shocked to hear u don’t like “I know places” but I respect ur opinion
Unpopular opinion: Shake it off is not a good song. I love Taylor but that song kills me
I feel so validated and seen as I sit with my spreadsheet of album rankings and my last songs on each are:
Debut: A Place In This World, A Perfectly Good Heart
Fearless: Untouchable, Jump Then Fall
Speak Now: Superman
Red: Stay Stay Stay
1989: All You Had To Do Was Stay, I Know Places
Reputation: Endgame
Lover: Paper Rings
folklore: Seven
Evermore: Cowboy Like Me
For me:
Fearless: Change
Speak Now: Superman
Red: The Lucky One
1989: Bad Blood
Reputation: This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things
Lover: ME!
Folklore: Seven
Evermore: No Body, No Crime
Midnights: Vigilante Sh*t
I skipped Debut because I haven't listened to it all the way through. When I got into Taylor, I was excited to listen to Speak Now, Red, and 1989. Fearless TV came out a few weeks later, so I forgot Debut existed (no pun intended). I think all the singles from Debut are pretty good, though, and I actually like A Place in This World.
AYHTDWS is his favorite 1989 song and in his top 10 lmfaoo
yes, chemtrails is so good! I agree with most of your worst song picks, except I actually like A Place in This World, I Know Places and King of my Heart. I think you said it before yourself, the songs you don't like contain some sort of unbridled enthusiasm that makes you embarrassed for her haha
LMFAOOOO that's so true. Second hand embarrassment and yet I love London boy. I'm an enigma
Getting spicy!!
I think this theory can just be disproven because one with even fair hearing can clearly and objectively hear every word she says in ITWAM TV.
you answered my question 🤩🤩 made my day ty zack
hi zach! i love your content! can you please do a video on unreleased songs and your opinions on them? i would love that!
How do you think she plans to re record Better Than Revenge?
8:13 the tie between Stay Stay Stay, KOMH, Paper Rings, and Dorothea is twee. They're all (to some degrees more so than others) laced (KOMH & Dorothea) or doused (Stay Stay Stay & Paper Rings) with twee. They're all on their manic pixie dream girl Zooey Deschanel vintage dresses 2012 BS.
(ngl though I go hard for Dorothea and Stay Stay Stay oopsie)
What are your thoughts on people saying that there is a whole album in the vault?
i actually really like daylight and i've been a swiftie since 2011 so idk about your math there but i respect your opinion lol
favorite song opener and closing song? (it's ok if the two are in different albums)
Holy Ground and State Of Grace is the best
We......agree on so much oh my goodness even on the Lana stuff WHAT
legendary minds think alike!!
I Know Places is my favorite song in 1989 my jaw just dropped 🤣🤣🤣
Is there a reason you’re invested and care/ know the most about Taylor not just the artist but also the person ? Is it just cause she seems the most interesting compared to everyone else and is obviously the biggest or is it just cause she’s your favourite musician?
Epiphany and king of my heart 😭😭😭
You can try out an artist called "The Midnight" They specialize in Synthpop. I'd suggest you listening to Los Angeles or Lost Boy! They are great!
Not you calling me a new swiftie for liking Daylight 😭 Not my fave but I still like it help
hahaha same, I’ve been a swiftie since fearless era and I love daylight 😭
I think Taylor heard you when you said this 😂 16:36
my question for u was what do you think in your opinion was the relationship that has affected her the most in her life? just out of pure speculation
excluding Joe I would honestly say Jake
@@theswiftologist agreed i’m gonna be interested to see if we will see the same kind of emotion w the speak now re recordings and john mayer not that she should be doing any charity for his ass !!
Agree about I Know Places.
King of My Heart is her best song
No it is notttt
I will say this once and once only but
Stuff that is painfully average/ boring will always be worst then something that is just straight up bad.
Finally!! Someone else who doesn’t like ‘I know places’
