The biggest thing I saw with the toss sweep was the blocking AI was horrible. It was like the guard and FB couldn't decide who their man was and both got free.

@@kellz8854 If spamming the toss is beating you, you have bigger problems. I wouldn't mind better defense beating the toss like they improved the pass rush. Don't dumb down one side to beef up another.

My team is averaging almost 3 fumbles a game in FOF mode. We lead the league in fumbles lost by a mile because my teammates fumble on almost every hit stick

Collin Rosendall I was in your situation yesterday, then I fumbled on my first offensive play they returned for td, then he made me fumble on the ensuing kickoff and returned THAT for a td as well. I never rage quit so fast in my life.
Collin Rosendall it was about my 6th or 7th game and there hadnt been any fumbles up until that game.
I think the LB nerf was well deserved last year you could user a 68 overall LB and could make a crazy interception from 5 yards back

Frozenwhirlpool true, that's one showcase of madden is unlike real life. However, i do find singleback or iform running plays more successful than shotgun running plays against a multiple db defense

My Bo Jackson 92 when I went to truck stick a low rated safety on the goal line and fumbled (luckily made a little profit on him)
I've noticed this stuff too. You gotta get rid of the ball, and it makes it a better game imo. Find your quick reads on most plays, and then if you want to hit something deep you may need to put in some extra blockers to make that happen

MakeUFumble saying it works might be a bittttt of an overstatement. There has been 8 times now and counting where on a kick return they run straight through the middle on my whole team slip through everybody and run it for 6 lol

I just can’t seem to take the tight angle in this game. No dive or hot stick. But. My guys wanna run a foot to the left or right. Games so so. Was hoping for more but. That’s what u get for hoping
Ya Video games suck because there’s usually one extreme or the other, last year we were stumbling and getting tackled by our own teammates, this year JJ Watt is diving for a sack and Mariota is stomping over his prone body not losing any balance and going in for a td. That happened to me today, I was the titans so it benefits me in that situation, but it was still bs even tho it went my way, if you’re like a yard away from the qb you should be able to dive and still get him
Zone coverage in general is terrible,
You gotta base align man coverage and assign corners by depth chart help me a lot and I can only play man coverage I give up terrible amounts of yards when I play zone
Switch your depth up. When playing zone, there's a way you can make your defense play short passes and deep passes. If you learn how to do that and implement it at the right times, that can help a lot. Plus, changing your look helps. Like base-align or show blitz when you're not blitzing.
Since this year's Madden shows your original defensive look right after the plays are picked, you can just call a dummy play, base-align, then audible out of that play so your opponent has no idea what you're running.
For example, if you want to run cover 3, call cover 2 at the play menu, base align your defense at the line of scrimmage, then audible to cover 3. If your opponent keeps throwing short to the RB in the flats or something like that, follow those same steps, but then last step is to make your defense play short, which will change certain assignments to cover the flats.
I use the Colts and I don't give up points easily. So I know defense isn't impossible in this game. You gotta know your personnel too. Some defenses play zone better, some play man better, some have a better 4-man push rush.

I typically do this when I play zone but very often if I show blitz my corners get burnt. Happens twice in 2 games each
@@booker4984 In Madden 19, I just used to manually move my cornerbacks back just a little bit so they wouldn't get burnt like that. But it's harder to do that in this one because the ball can be snapped faster. I try to at least move 1 cornerback further back in Madden 20. You have to give faster guys and high-rated guys more cushion.
So far, I only show blitz against tight formations instead of spread or trips. Another thing you can do is show blitz when playing cover 3, then tell your defense play the deep pass and they usually get back fast enough to cover the deep receivers but the underneath stuff will be open.
I typically base-align much more than a show blitz. But this year, RPO's can be weak against an opponent who runs a lot of RPO's. So far, I've run more RPO's with the Colts than any of my opponents online so I haven't had to worry about that too much. But I know I will eventually.
You can also use bluff plays, they defend the run pretty good because there are not any line backers in the middle but when they run it in the middle, the line backers close in good. You close in on the rb yourself by usering and run down the middle of the open hole and hold A. Don’t hit stick, don’t press x. Hold A and you make a normal tackle and it’s a success 90% of the time. Also, if someone is scrambling on you. Just switch an individual to spy on the qb. Qb spy is better now because the go after the passer when he gets out of pocket. Try different formations and switch up between cover 3 and man coverage plays. Do a cover 3 flat every once in a while. Do cover 2 every once in a while. What I see now is when people are down 7 with a minute left on the clock. They like to run the same play with their best receiver on a streak. So go to cover 3 or 4 don’t worry about any other receiver other than that receiver and switch to your safety and follow that streak. Send your coverage back too. There are so many strategies to the game. You just gotta find out how it works. Like lately, I’ve just been using suggested plays because my offensive play book changed and is all confusing and I win a lot. Just look up how to get good 🤷🏻♂️
Typically what I been doing is making the corners that are covering the deep routes when it’s purple I put them in the hard flats and a let my safeties/corners cover the deep ball typically I play a nickel defense cause Mark Barron can play corner or LB, so he’s my flex guy, it’s been working but man works better in most cases
I've actually been usering safeties and corners. It's fun and seems reasonably effective because you can make reads way faster than the AI, come down in run support or even make a route look open and then jump it

Blocking still broken. 10:09 both lead blockers literally don't block anyone, and tosses aren't the only play where blocking errors like this happen. Simple second level blocking will get messed up because your guard just runs past the line backer. Gain of 0

I’ve found times where the wheel route for the running back was OP and I could rush the play and get down the whole field by the wheel route alone

Taskoo haha,I rage quit today because I got an 88 yard td on a bubble screen rpo with Adam Humphries on 4th and 22, but got called for illegal receivers downfield even tho I got rid of the ball before I even went to hand it off. I was winning 14-0 but still rage quit because that was complete bullshit, I understand getting called for that if I held the ball to long on an rpo but you literally can’t get rid of the ball faster than I did, and still got called.

No Zones work properly, hb toss ruined, if somebody quits while online game is loading you get a loss, stiff arm is op, defense doesn’t line up properly if someone audibles and moves Wr’s, tackling sucks, hit stick barely matters, online games still on All pro when they should be on all Madden, can’t see player history or records of friends online, pass rush still sucks, linebackers and secondary won’t make plays when ball is right in there face just so EA can say you can throw over a linebackers head... EA can’t get right. MUT was the worse thing to happen to Madden, they stopped trying because the extra income from MUT is all they’re concerned with, not quality.
You have to mix up your defense, can’t spam 1 run play which was never really good honestly, that one is actually bullshit, stiff arm is aight, just reset your defense, user tackle, hit stick does work, nobody really cares of friends records online, if anything pass rush is the best it’s ever been, and that’s not true you just can’t jump routes crazy anymore this is a pretty solid madden for sure but mut does suck

The cloud flat in a cover 2 defense is supposed to cover anything going into the flats or anything under that (most of the runningback routes out of the backfield other than the RB angle)
The corner route isn't supposed to be covered by cloud flat regardless, that was supposed to he reserved for the coverage represented by the purple and pink zones in cover 3/4/6, but we all know madden doesn't give a damn about the defensive AI to fix that.
Unoriginal Name it depends on if you play overtop or underneath.
Cloud flats supposed to play up top ... so that includes short corners too. Purples play deep flats and deep curls.
Underneath or hard flats play RB flats or end of drags
But like you truthfully stated madden AI does respect any of that

I didn't have that issue in face of the franchise. Had maybe 4 or 5 fumbles over the course of the year, which seems about right
Bo J. What team and what difficulty you play on? I’m on all madden with the raiders and I’ve had some games where my receivers fumble up to 4 times and lose me the game

May adjustment is to put the corners in hard flats then it plays like real cover 2 in my opinion

Nerfing the linebackers made this game so much better. No more LBs catching interceptions like Ed Reed. You can still cover really well with them. I still user the LB. The swat button works well with LBs. But no more bs interceptions from Linebackers 15 yards under the play.
And the pass rush is great too. You can still hit the deep routes. The QBs take longer to throw the deep ball and the pass rush is faster, but I've done it in pretty much online game I've played so far. It's just that you can't expect to stand in the pocket for an hour and wait for crossing routes to get open. Post routes against Cover 2 and Streaks against Cover 3/Cover 1 press work fine with a speedy receiver.
At the moment, Madden 20 is a big improvement from Madden 19. RPO's are a big plus. And superstar abilities changed the game for the better. Hopefully patches and glitches don't screw it up to bad, but EA stepped its game up on this one.
I haven't finished the video but I have a problem with the first example you brought up regarding cloud flats.... I'm not saying they work great, but in your example with the streak route you just have a very good play against the defence. If it was for that clear out route taking away the deep half, is that cloud flat not in a good position? I know its taken away corner routes on me before in this game 🤔

Every Bobby Wagner hit is a hit stick. He, by himself, injured 3 of my players. 2 rbs 1 wr IN THE SAME GAME
I personally find usering linebackers to still be somewhat viable this year. They're definitely not as good as 19, but for me personally what is lost with interceptions I make up for in creating fumbles and hit sticking people whenever I can. Coverage ain't the same though and it's tough for me to figure out what windows I can leave while covering.
Definitely would be a lot smarter to learn how to user the safety though for those picks. I might have to work on that this season.
I play with the chiefs, and user darron lee and he's honestly dropped one pick out of like 9 games. I honestly think it depends on the LB's speed...
If you’re on the goal line and on the right hash you can do a strong toss to the left or right depending on which hash you are on and it’s almost a guaranteed TD
Eric, thank for the great tips that you put out! I have a question..how can I get my voice herd on the game? There will always be issues but there are some that seem simple to fix. Just basic stuff that I don’t understand how the game got released without noticing. Here’s a few quick but seemingly easy ones to fix..
1. Pass lead on streaks/fades to the outside don’t always work. Often the ball is thrown straight.
2. QB Wind up to throw takes awyyyyy to long.
3. Toss/sweep animation needs to be sped up. The play is useless.
4. No huddle is overpowered, you can no huddle and make an adjustment and hike before you’re opponent has time to even pick a defense.
Is there a way to see what the previous offensive play when on Defense or is that taken out of the game?

You must be playing against offensive gurus or something. No one has put up more than 21 points on me yet. I've only played about 6 games online so far but even on All Madden against the AI defense is very manageable.
You gotta learn how to play defense without those fake lurking linebackers. That means you actually have to think about the plays you call and the situation.

Been playing NCAA '11 on my PS2 emulator and man the one thing I notice is how much faster the game moves compared to this. You rarely have time to throw the ball

Yup. These are all pretty much accurate. For me, the biggest one is the toss sweep, and I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing this. For me, it’s the blocking. While I could run toss sweeps decently in 19 and gain quite a bit of yardage on some with my 95 spd rb, the blocking of sweeps has been a legacy issue for years. It does seem worse in 20, as u say, but it is somewhat of a legacy. The predetermined blocking on the play appears to be the issue, imo. Meaning, the FB is always bound and determined to block the safety, and the pulling guard is bound and determined to block the LB. what always happens, however, is that the FB gets to the lb first, or the lb gets to the FB first, depending on how u view the issue, I suppose. The FB often looks at this lb threat, but because he’s predetermined to block the safety, he simply shrugs off the threat. Meanwhile, the pulling OL is either too slow, or as u say, the toss is too slow, in general, that the lb always gets upfield before the OL can make a legal block. What often ends up happening on these tosses is that while both the FB and the OLman are both looking to make specific blocks, often NEITHER make a block. Lol. They often run into each other as well. While I’m assuming the predetermined blocking idea that the ol blocks the outside threat (often a lb or cb coming off wr block) and the FB should be heading downfield to block the safety may actually be the real life football concept for this toss play. However, due to some limitations in madden, it just never plays out correctly. If they changed the predetermined nature for the FB to block the outside threat or the ‘first’ or ‘closest’ threat and allowed the OLman to go downfield and block the safety, this play could once again be viable. But, in its current state, it is absolute garbage. I hope they look at this for a possible patch, but seeing as this is somewhat of a legacy issue, I have my doubts.
You need to step up into the pocket to help your blocker stay in front of Lawrence, it'll buy you a little more time

A thing that I do hate is the player lock camera on defense. It makes it so hard to tackle anyone when you whiff on a player. I think that the zoomed in camera was much better. Another thing I hate is the WR streak route. You can never move around so u more than likely will have it dropped right in front of u.

Toss plays aren’t bad this year. I still spam HB Toss just for fun. Set O-Line to run blocking, and then slide your protection over to the right side. Works nearly every time, and that’s on All-Pro difficulty at least. Flipping the play works too.
Not sure if anyone found this but I noticed on onside kicks now that if you come out in a regular kick return the team that’s kicking the ball will almost recover the ball everytime. The cpu did it to me 3 times and all 3 times they recovered it. Not sure if this is bad luck or if you now have to have your kick return team on onside recover to have a chance 🤷🏻♂️
The issues I have are Tackling and for some reasons receivers don’t like to catch in my game it might just be FOF but they might get a perfect patch have it in there hands and then boom it’s out of their hands after they’ve held to for like 2 seconds.
I think the screen pass got nerfed as well. In 18 (didn't play 19) it was always a guaranteed first down (against the cpu) but now I either get sacked, lose yards, or my RB gets stuck on someone and it's incomplete. Very rare does it work

Nice vid, noticed the cloud flats been trash this year, but the safety zones is Cov 3 are also pretty bad... been smoking it with the Shotgun double stack - 4 Verticals (raiders playbook) throwing to the inside seam WR almost every time
Eric, I played a guy yesterday who usered a linebacker and ran several pass plays down because the offense is monotone and slow! No user defender should be able to cover three routes simultaneously but it happens.
Imagine having this pass rush AND _if_ zone defense worked.. 😒 Maybe one day things will work right. #wishfulthinking

Funny thing is from what I’ve seen from watching people stream MUT the QB can sit in the pocket if you don’t rush 6-7 guys. That was the only one that I’m not so sure I agree with. All the others seem to be pretty true though
Love your channel and I’m big on madden. I agree with everything your putting out.. But Have you noticed the Screen plays? They are a little delayed when trying to pass the ball

I know its super casual mode, but how is usering D-line or outside pass rushers this year? I mostly just play against friends and know its not the best way to play defense, but i think its fun when its working at least a little.
It’s okay, but I would only user an over 85OVR or an X factor DT or DE/Edgerusher... and not all the time, maybe on like only 3rd and long every so often. User safeties in man coverage works pretty well for me.
I think I would like to see Cloud/Flats play better, but the deep coverage is much better and overall I feel the gameplay is better off with more shorter passes being open and deeper passes are more easily contained. It forces people to play solid football over more snaps. So mistake-free football is more important than using 4 snaps each possession working to get the crossing money play to cash in. I feel a definite improvement overall.

Could you use ur influence with ea to get them to fix the issue with the camera toggle re-setting to on when it was turned off in the settings . And could you do a video on how to play Madden with the camera toggle on . Who the flip plays like that anyway??

9:55 - no wonder the toss play doesn't work. Blocker #45 seems to just run right past (or is it right through?) defender #59. Looks like EA didn't make defensive pursuit better; they just made blocking (especially pulling linemen) even more incompetent.
I never used toss plays but can we discuss the fact that everytime you ran that play the blocking literally ran away from the person right in front of them? How and why is that a thing?

What about cover 2 sink? Cause based off what the actual assignment is of the corner would take the corner route and you just leave the flat open and give that up and rally to it? Or would he still stand in no man’s land and not do his actual assignment?
I’m glad they stepped the pass rush up. That’s closer to real life. I just wish they would go back to letting you challenge plays.
10:10 has been a problem for years - pulling guards and fullbacks completely ignoring defenders, even if they have good awareness and blocking skills.

Also, the end around seems better than the toss. I agree sometimes you get blown up on the toss but if you call it against the right defense it still works.
What coverage do you run if you user a safety? Because if his zone is deep and you go to jump a slant and they run a fade to your side and the corners aren’t very good at covering that in this gears madden. So what coverage or audibles should I do. Keep up the good work
Hey Eric, love the game so far but do u think it would be a good thing to tune the fumble rate just a little? Been a little excessive for me.

The corners aren’t defending the corner route in 2 because you’re throwing a skinny corner 30 yards down the field. He’s supposed to play underneath it and rob it if they try to throw a flatter, shorter corner. The zone is working perfectly for the corner it’s the safety who is out of position.
I play 04 everday. I make my own defence. I wish my cb's would cover as much space in a flat zone. I just found out the hard way how much ground they actually cover.
Is there no way to play like at the start of the story where you play as whoever has the ball? Like at the start i played as the ball holder now im signed and it lets me throw the ball and sim the rest... does that mean i cant play whole games in story? i just get to throw the ball? or is there a setting im overlooking?
What are some good sliders to run on the gm? Any thoughts?
Users are still OP. I’ve never seen a LB in real life be able to cover a drag and a post route in the time the ball travels in the air.
You can’t trail a ball carrier and make a diving tackle anymore either. Very hard to do

Off topic for the video but do you know if players develop into X Factors in franchise mode? Not user players because they made all users X Factors out of the gate, which I dislike. But if a player like Evan Engram could get the Superstar dev trait and then earn an X Factor. Just asking.
Do you think the Cover 2 will be usable once better players get released into the game? (When thresholds are met?) Or, will equally improved receivers offset the improvement on defense and still render Cover 2 useless?
I really hope they fix cloud flat. I run cover 2 a decent amount (at least in Madden 19 I did) and it would suck if the whole year I have to stay away from it. The Colts run cover 2 almost every play in real life and they had a top 10 defense.. so I dont see why Madden would nerf it.
I’ve been using toss plays . The work when you need them too . I use it pretty often .

Meaning when you motion a player
We can take a different player and motion him as long as its not a illegal shift why we can do it

In my franchise Lamar Jackson has 1 rushing yard through 9 games. Sim stats are all messed up
I definitely get a lot of int usering lb i mean it’s some passes i can’t get to but if u use a fast one u can get there
Cover 2 defense works pretty well if you make the correct adjustments before hand (depending on Offensive formation)

Man coverage also just doesn't work anymore. My defenders are always miles away whenever a reciever makes a simple cut. Also my defenders just don't understand how to cover a check down
I’ll never get over how unnecessary it is to PRACTICE in game day uniforms. It’s comical. What happened to the practice uni’s from 08? Please mention this to an EA rep the next time you speak with them. Such an easy fix.

This game must hate Broncos RBs cause my first CF I had Philip Lindsay and second game into the season I lose him for the whole season to a torn pectoral. After that I lose Freeman for 7 weeks, Booker is straight trash so I cut him and the person I signed in place of him Chris Thompson gets a shoulder tear and is out for 5 weeks. Injuries for this game is ridiculous

Yo, sick info looks like 80% of my works Madden league is going to have problems!!! They love to use same plays over and over, using linebackers for int’s with back to the ball..
So should we just always switch cloud flats to something else like hard flats?
You missed 1 that I think should be in the top 5 which is the jet sweep. Can’t use it anymore the pass rush being amped up has stop these cold.
