I'm not sure if I should purchase this model, or the Calibre Wings VF-211 Fighting Checkmates F-14 model... Really having a hard time choosing!

I did some digging on a Chinese website and have got my "ghost rider" shipped in a white box, which is supposed to be a "factory defect" piece that shouldn't be sold on the market. However, the quality control is almost the same as the official released ones except for missing the authenticity card and two pilots. But for only 420 RMB (58 USD) I think I'm pretty satisfied lol

Oooo, this ought to be a good one. I actually need to watch this because I want to get a Calibre Wings Jolly Rodgers F-14

    Thanks for the well-made video.
In my experience, the CA72TP07 is the worst assembled Tomcat from CW ever! At least the spread in quality is so wide that the probability of getting a bad one is over 80%. ALL collector friends worldwide have confirmed this to me. The quality is even worse than the horribly mounted CA721417. Everything mounted crooked and inaccurate. Tip crumbled. Glued crooked. Horrible gaps everywhere. And yes, I know what I'm talking about. I have over 30 Tomcats from CW in 1/72, many of them duplicates. Some even in triplicate, e.g. my beloved Ghostrider CA721404 (gap dimensions a dream). I also have the CA72TP02. No comparison!
Even the great paintwork doesn't help. The CA721417 is also fantastically painted.
I had pre-ordered two CA72TP07s. Both were returned. Tried again. Also went back. Take a look at the gaps at the top and bottom of the fuselage where the cockpit is connected to the fuselage. Or the gaps between the canopy and the fuselage (and you have a good example in the video). And that goes all the way round the model. Noel Lee from Calibre Wings responded in writing to my complaint about the poor quality: "Sorry. New factory. They are still learning".
What a disrespectful thing to say. No offence intended. And remember: I'm a fan!

Woah, thank you for your comment! I definitely did not know about all of this. That's so unprofessional from Calibre Wings. Quality should have been better on this model. I did some closer inspection and you can tell that they messed this one up. Gaps everywhere, loose parts, parts not fitting, it's crazy. I've been itching to get one of the ghost rider ones instead, but I haven't been able to find one.
On another note, that's one hell of a collection. Awesome!

So I just received my second piece of this model and the quality is horrid. You were right on the money, this model is downright TERRIBLE

@@rpgiv3175 Thank you for your feedback. Sure, if you don't know about it, the model is still beautiful, no question. For me as a collector, every mistake destroys the immersion in a fiction.
I think it's a shame that people treat fans like this. How much do you think it hurt my soul to send the models back? It's just a good thing Maverick doesn't know about it.
If you can ever get a Ghostrider CA721404 or CA721407: buy it. And it is precisely the accuracy of these models (including the CA72TP02) and the attention to detail that are the quality benchmark for me. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case for Calibre Wings. The CA721417 was already a disgrace. Exactly the same problems. I had a total of 15 models in my hands. All a disaster. I won't be pre-ordering any more Calibre Wings models until the manufacturer changes its policy. Calibre once came onto the market to build the best Tomcats. In the meantime, every F-14 from JCWings is better assembled for 90 Eur.

@@robertkorth605It's surprising.. in the class of Calibre Wings which is known for its good QC but you get bad quality and bad response. I hope next year they can improve..

@@robertkorth605 the dimensions of JCWINGS f14 are horrible... even worse are the hobbymaster F14. their proportions are so wrong that it can be notice from meters away. Calibre wings F14 is by far the best proportions of F14 diecast in the world period. BUT, i also agree the gaps are annoying, i put some DUREPOXY in these gaps and it worked perfectly. But, i also wished it come without huge gaps and parts that does not stand togheter like the fuel tanks

Do you think I should get this one or an actual squadron f-14 from calibre?

    • @rpgiv3175
      @rpgiv3175  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It depends on what you prefer in your fleet. This aircraft did in fact exist in real life, as it was used for filming the aerial sequences for some of the film. It was never deployed for active service in this configuration though. Either way, it's a pretty good model, assuming yours doesn't have the issues mine did.

@@slackerman4161 sure! They also offer stands without markings too. I think the top gun stand would look really cool though
