Lehigh Defense made the extreme defender in .380 and it does as much damage as a 9mm hollow point. No joke. There's some gel test comparisons here on youtube.
Bigger is not always better. A 22lr will often penetrate further than it's larger cousins. The larger caliber however will result in higher hydo-shock value.
@Marion Hamer Wow, you totally missed my point. Let me spell it out for you. Practice shot placement!! With proper shot placement you can take out an attacker with a 22lr. I, myself, would not carry a .22, but some people do. Frankly, I prefer 9mm or .45.

Me too! I have a Gamo Swarm Magnum in .22. It runs about 950 up according to temperatures. Cheap Crossman Premier HP 14.5grain pellets. On hard limestone it splatters those pellets. If they ricochet, it sounds like a .22 rimfire. The alloy pellets run quite a bit faster. The soft lead in the Crossman pellets hurt penetration. Gun Sam did a test. The type of air rifle nitro piston, springer or the tank type does make a difference also. Problem I see is the price.🤷♂️
I love my .25 cal pcp’s. Ammo is cheap and I could drop a coyote with something so silent the sound of the impact is louder than the shot. Texans are no joke thou in .50. Drop a just about anything

Hi Bro - Great Video! The 9mm made the clay look like it was partially "hollowed out." That said, I'm in NC, and I typically carry my SIG P238 (All Metal 380) - low recoil, ultra dependable, and easy to Pocket Carry.
How is your Ruger 22 pistol for DUDS? I get about 3% rimfire duds with my Ruger 10/22 rifle. How about you? Rugers are excellent, in my humble opinion.
@@widehotep9257 I have shot a LOT of 22's over the years, and in my experience "duds" or failure to fire, are usually caused by 1 of 2 things: poor quality ammo or a dirty gun/ firing pin not sliding smoothly. Disassemble your bolt and get the firing pin CLEAN, look closely at it for burrs in the metal (lightly sand it on a flat surface with 800-1200 grit sand paper) reassemble with just a 1/2 drop of Remington oil. Try different types of ammo, and if you are still having issues, replace the firing pin spring :)
Very impressive video. I always told my students the best caliber for concealed carry is the largest caliber that you can confidently shoot and comfortably carry . I am now subscribed. Keep the great videos coming.
I wondered that, and on the 9 mm test, I wondered about the difference in ambient temperature and the temp of the clay. On the .22 test, it looked like a very cold day, which would stiffen up the clay considerably, I would think.
I carry a Springfield Armory XD40 with a ported 4 inch barrel. Or sometimes a Bersa Thunder .380. They both have seen a lot of range time and plinking. The XD40 is my favorite though.
From my experience a hollow point hits a little harder on a squirrel, rabbit or groundhog on impact a solid bullet doesn’t stop as quick . Then again I want you to know I’m a Hunter and not a bullet expert or a bench rest shooter. I just observed the difference while hunting with hollow point and solid rounds !

A test of shots able to be fired effectively in 2 seconds at a target would be a good idea. The focus always seems to be on caliber, there's a lot more factors than that in a few second gunfight.
What temperature was the clay in each test? Kept inside until a couple minutes before shooting or sitting in the back of a truck in freezing weather? I'm curious if the clay being cold in these tests could have affected results.
Remember. You said it was very cold that day so I would think the clay would be pretty stiff therefore the reaction of the clay would be much different as compared to a very warm day. Just a thought.
ideally one would have a giant pool or wall of clay so you can shoot all the guns in one go, then release footage one or two calibers at a time, and make some of them available as onlyfans premium content :)
I got to thinking while I was watching you shooter the clay blocks, and to get a good idea of how a .22 vs .380 would be in a more realistic scenario, put a piece of denim or heavier clothe over the block to get an idea of how the two small caliber rounds would react. I suggest that because if you do have to shoot someone, they’re more than likely going to be wearing a shirt at least. Both of the rounds made similar diameter holes in the clay, with the.380 having a slight edge. This was probably the closest challenge of any two calibers. I was really surprised at the size of the exit hole the.22 made.
My thoughts: Always bring a knife to a gunfight! The 22lr is better than the knife and the.380 makes a bigger hole but you need the knife to make a sharp stick. All in all, from knife and stick, all the way to the.380, you don’t want to be on the receiving end!
The old guy from gun blast Jeff Quinn always said “If someone starts putting holes in ya, you will stop doing what caused that” either one will remind someone they have made a big mistake!! RIP Jeff!!! Would enjoy a 380 vs 22mag video
Enjoyed the test! The wrap up was spot on; especially the "if thats what you can hit with". THE most important point. BTW, your range needs some cleaning. Looks like a dump.
A really nice video! With the smaller calibers, you got to be precise, and more importantly, be first! Copying this to my daughter; she don't want to step up the the 9mm; this might change her mind.
My first pistol and best friend! It was my duty gun when I went around filling ATM's. It gave me perfect scores on state qualifications, never malfunctions. I recently had tritium sights put on and it's more bad ass!
I recently purchased a Barrett 21a bobcat for my my in 22Lr because she's has had problems with her hands over the last few years. Either caliber will have an effect depending were you hit your target, 22Lr to the face or a knee will make the day got to hell in a hand basket. Like my Sgt would say it's better to have it and not need than need it and not have it
Well now that was a interesting video I would like to see the difference between 22 long rifle and 25 ACP, fired at the clay blocks. As far as I am concerned 9 mm is as far down the line on caliber as I would go.
The older 25acp European ammo was very powerful compared to American 25acp ammo. It was so good NYC ban it years ago. Then a legal challenge force them to drop the ban.
Ruger lcp2 in 22lr makes a great deep concealment pocket pistol. 10+1 and a backup mag... Follow up shots are fast, I suppose I'll take my chances when necessary.
hell ya, im soooo sick of everything 9mm. please do more stuff like this with maybe .32acp .380acp .40s&w, .45acp .50ae. im interested in the different outcomes
I would add .45Long Colt, .410, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, and .41 Remington Magnum to your list. Use a pig's gut for the meat target. My point of aim for a defense shot will be the belly button. Three warning shots to the belly button will stop most humans from continued pursuit of my grave injury or death. Just my gallbladder exploding on me put me down.
@@thatoneguybones8036 I want to try a lead 400 grain .41 Remington Magnum at 671 fps. It will tumble on impact at 21 feet, I predict. It will be tumbling at 50 yards, but it would still penetrate 15 inches; I predict.

The guy who used to process hogs for us would put them down with a single shot .22 rifle. He came to the farm and would drive his truck up to the edge of the catch pen and brace his rifle over the truck door and wait for the right shot, and then "crack". Those hogs never even twitched. They just hit the dirt. Of course, that just emphasizes the importance of shot placement, but that old guy knew his shot placement, and was good at it.

In small pistol calibers there is not much of a difference, the point of impact is what decides the incapacitation or not. If you can shot better a .22 or a .32 than a snappy .380 go for the smaller.
I have been on the lookout for a .22 revolver, and by my estimation so has everybody else. Weak primer? Pull again, bang. I love the .22, and would EDC it without worry in a revolver only, semi auto failure to fire is quite common. Most of the fear about this tiny round is not warranted, especially if you are on the receiving end. Until I find a revolver, the 9mm it is I guess 😉.

Lehigh Defense made the extreme defender in .380 and it does as much damage as a 9mm hollow point. No joke. There's some gel test comparisons here on youtube.
Norma monolithic .380 HP is pushing 300ft-lb. that’s absolutely 9mm JHP territory
your clay cubes are unexpectedly fantastic for comparisons. loving these videos brother. can't stop watching em'
Thanks for watching Mike!
All I know is they put 100 million dollars into that $60 monocular, because that commercial is EVERYWHERE on youtube. My GAWD 🙄😂
yeah, and I’d like to see some reviews on that $5000 illegal to own military monocular...
Bigger is not always better. A 22lr will often penetrate further than it's larger cousins. The larger caliber however will result in higher hydo-shock value.
Not gonna lie the faces on the clay blocks have gotten weirder and weirder... I love these videos!
I like the way you brought the pistol back on target after the shot, very good.
I would not want to be on the receiving end of either one of them. Carry what you’re comfortable with and practice shot placement.
Me either
22 mag addict here.
I agree with you, but if I HAD to choose, I'd rather be shoot at with a 22 due to the higher chance of rimfire duds.
@Marion Hamer Wow, you totally missed my point. Let me spell it out for you. Practice shot placement!! With proper shot placement you can take out an attacker with a 22lr. I, myself, would not carry a .22, but some people do. Frankly, I prefer 9mm or .45.
@@jeffsnapp4222 nothing wrong with a 22 very accurate with the right ammo you’re good shot placement is definitely key I wouldn’t stand infront of any cailber
Thanks WTW. I expected more out of both cartridges as well. Appreciate you for taking the time to make this unbiased comparison. The best take was your introduction of the 9mm test.
He said "everybody should carry" I absolutely agree.
The three I Carry the most are 38sp 45 auto & 22 mag. I like my pmr 30, I carry it a lot, it’s lite and holds a lot of ammo. Thanks again WTW. Gods speed to ya 👍🇺🇸
I wonder if part of the drastic difference is due to weather difference? Thanks for the vid 👍
Love my CZ-83. Got it back in 91 in Germany. 13 in the mag and almost 4 inches of barrel. its big for a .380 but reliable as heck. Thanks for the videos WTW
I’m waiting to see those .50 cal air rifles, that would be interesting on the clay
Yep like see that as well as 22cal , 25cal , 45, 9mm air guns
I would like to see that too.
@@luciankristov6436 that 50cal do some damage on game animals.
I love my .25 cal pcp’s. Ammo is cheap and I could drop a coyote with something so silent the sound of the impact is louder than the shot. Texans are no joke thou in .50. Drop a just about anything
I carry a 9mm but also have a .40 and. 22lr handguns. I love them all and I think i can do some damage with all of them. Just took my .22lr taurus tx22 to the range and I have to say it's easy to place 16 rounds in tight groups.
Love the vids giving some real insite on Carey options for people who prefer a smaller caliber 380 is more than enough for a attitude adjustment keep up the awesome vids
Thanks for watching Derrick!
Hi Bro - Great Video! The 9mm made the clay look like it was partially "hollowed out." That said, I'm in NC, and I typically carry my SIG P238 (All Metal 380) - low recoil, ultra dependable, and easy to Pocket Carry.
My sentiments exactly. My P238 is soft-shooting, and strikes to point of aim.
Really digging your vids Man! Keeping me from going stir crazy in this pandemic. God Bless you and your family.
Appreciate you watching Elmer!
I got a Ruger SR22 pistol for something to plink with, fun little pistol to shoot.
@Andrew Crosby I have to agree, the SR22 performed flawless for me and as said before, it's fun to shoot.
ive put 5000+ rounds through my ruger sr22. it is a wonderful pistol.
I have one as well, even sold my 22/45 Mk2 ...
Thanks for watching Richard
The white clay and red are different density. Red is sandy, white almost porcelain. Maybe different results apple to apples?
Fine point young man 👊🤠🤙 🐓
I wondered that, and on the 9 mm test, I wondered about the difference in ambient temperature and the temp of the clay. On the .22 test, it looked like a very cold day, which would stiffen up the clay considerably, I would think.
I’m glad you said it, I was scrolling through comments to see if I needed to.
You are absolutely correct! I learned that in art class back in the 70s. Lol
.22 rimfire rounds are awesome.... and underrated. Thanks for all the clay block vids WTW, very cool getting to see the clay after shots are fired.
Thanks for watching Aaron!
I’m in CA and they just banned sharp sticks 😩.
Who tee whoooo! 👍
Daggumit
Jimmiejoe sparkey
Having lived in California, I believe you.
They did not...all sharp sticks will be taxed or confiscated. Stay Safe. Few guns or ammo here in SoCA...
I carry a Springfield Armory XD40 with a ported 4 inch barrel. Or sometimes a Bersa Thunder .380. They both have seen a lot of range time and plinking. The XD40 is my favorite though.
Should had done both these calibers in hollow point. I think those results would be interesting.
👍👍
From my experience a hollow point hits a little harder on a squirrel, rabbit or groundhog on impact a solid bullet doesn’t stop as quick . Then again I want you to know I’m a Hunter and not a bullet expert or a bench rest shooter. I just observed the difference while hunting with hollow point and solid rounds !
@@joeywest386 if you do the philips head screwdriver mod on the .22lr hollow points makes a massive difference in damage

Good evening. I carry a XDM10MM and a ruger security 9 for backup
Where do you hide them and clips? Especially in the hot summer

Try CCI stingers! Smaller bullet, more powder! It throws a fireball!
Once had a guy tell me a .22 can't go through a jacket(yes, he was dead serious). You should make video about that.
"Will a jacket stop a .22?"
Good idea
@@WHOTEEWHO Heck might as well add a pillow as extra armor lol
I sometimes carried a .22 Derringer years ago and had an idiot at work that swore a .22 couldn't stop or kill a person. I really wanted to shoot his leg and ask him how it felt, but I refrained.
Excellent video! It was a nice touch to splice in part of the clay challenge with the 9mm round

Ha! Too funny. Heavy metal is the spot!
A test of shots able to be fired effectively in 2 seconds at a target would be a good idea. The focus always seems to be on caliber, there's a lot more factors than that in a few second gunfight.
I always enjoy your videos, no one could ever say you dont have fun!!
Really appreciate you watching Jerry
What temperature was the clay in each test? Kept inside until a couple minutes before shooting or sitting in the back of a truck in freezing weather? I'm curious if the clay being cold in these tests could have affected results.
Carrying a Taurus 942 8 shot 22lr loaded with CCI Stingers. Loving it !
My thoughts:
Always bring a knife to a gunfight!
Liked your videos on these different calibers!! Of course I keep my 22 close by but I have the others.. enjoyed seeing in slo-no. Tc from Nevada
Appreciate you watching Thomas
.410 and 20 gague would be interesting
.45-70 would be interesting as would 500 S&W
A really nice video! With the smaller calibers, you got to be precise, and more importantly, be first! Copying this to my daughter; she don't want to step up the the 9mm; this might change her mind.
I carry an xdm .45acp 4.5" in black
My first pistol and best friend! It was my duty gun when I went around filling ATM's. It gave me perfect scores on state qualifications, never malfunctions. I recently had tritium sights put on and it's more bad ass!
Love the clay vids!
I'll be tuning in later. Thanks wtw
Thanks for watching Jesse
Having worked the ER/ED I have seen many GSW. IMO, you don't want to get shot, ever! Great video!
I agree
Enjoyed watching the video I pocket carry a 380 everyday
I recently purchased a Barrett 21a bobcat for my my in 22Lr because she's has had problems with her hands over the last few years. Either caliber will have an effect depending were you hit your target, 22Lr to the face or a knee will make the day got to hell in a hand basket. Like my Sgt would say it's better to have it and not need than need it and not have it
Either a Taurus ultrlite, .38spc..or my Spectrum always backed up with my North American Arms
22lr
The Baby Rock M1911A .380, loaded with Hornady Critical Defense rounds has been my EDC for the last six years. Good all around package for my use.
Well now that was a interesting video I would like to see the difference between 22 long rifle and 25 ACP, fired at the clay blocks. As far as I am concerned 9 mm is as far down the line on caliber as I would go.
.25 acp might bounce back.
The older 25acp European ammo was very powerful compared to American 25acp ammo. It was so good NYC ban it years ago. Then a legal challenge force them to drop the ban.
This should be a fun little video, thanks again WTW. Good stuff to watch gods speed to ya and your family 👍🇺🇸
Hey Joel!
Nobody ever gets shot just once with a .22!

Now that depends where they are shot now doesn't it?
@Marion Hamer to whom did you reply?
Ruger lcp2 in 22lr makes a great deep concealment pocket pistol. 10+1 and a backup mag... Follow up shots are fast, I suppose I'll take my chances when necessary.

40 S&M or 44 mag depends on what I grab on the way out!
Awesome Was not expecting those results
Still taking down beef and hogs everyday with an ol crusty single shot winchester and some thunderbolts at the butcher shop i work in
The guy who used to process hogs for us would put them down with a single shot .22 rifle.
Wife and I both carry a Glock 43, 9mm. Love them. But no matter what gun or caliber someone carries, its no good if they don't practice with it a lot! I know you do! Keep up the great videos WTW!

I'd like to see Sharp Stick versus .22LR.
I think carrying more than one sharp stick is already illegal.

Thanks for watching Ross!
In small pistol calibers there is not much of a difference, the point of impact is what decides the incapacitation or not. If you can shot better a .22 or a .32 than a snappy .380 go for the smaller.
Excellent video and great match up. I like that S&W 22.
I have a S and W .380 EZ and love it. The .380 is a good round and I recommend the EZ. Good video, thanks for posting.
